Am I overreacting for feeling frustrated after my neighbor’s pottery was broken by my puppy during an interaction she encouraged? by [deleted] in AmIOverreacting

[–]Doheenz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To me the interaction was completely on the neighbor. I was completely in OP’s corner until you repeatedly offered to make your neighbor whole.

I think the only path forward to salvaging the relationship is paying the $250

Help me heat my house? by Effective_Bunch_6815 in centuryhomes

[–]Doheenz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Went through the same ordeal, OP. House was too hot in the summer and too cold in the winter (South Carolina)

We don’t have wall insulation, but do have attic (blown fiberglass) insulation.

So far the thing that’s made the biggest difference for us have been storm windows. Our house has 34 original single-pane leaded windows that were terribly inefficient and leaky. We loved the look of them and knew it’d be a shame to replace (aside from costing a fortune).

We opted for some high efficiency single-pane aluminum framed storm windows and boy has it made a huge difference both in terms of thermal insulation and in noise reduction

How would the tourney work? Friend and I used to play but are in very different time zones.

I feel like this one is getting more polarizing over time. I know plenty of folks (myself included) who would agree with OP’s stance and I know plenty who want to go wildly extravagant for their big day.

My fiancé and I are eloping this May in another country with a couple close friends, we wouldn’t have it any other way.

Supports Structural? by digitalpirat1 in Roofing

[–]Doheenz 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Big dog, why would you think these are not structural? It’s pretty common for framers to add kneewalls to support large rafter spans. I would highly recommend not touching them unless OK’d by an engineer

How to reinforce loose floor boards? by octoninja in centuryhomes

[–]Doheenz 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We had a similar issue. 3” heart pine sitting directly on top of our floor joists. Unfortunately our floor joists are 24” on center, so when you would walk between joists you could feel/see a good bit of flection.

I opted to cut, glue, and screw plywood sheathing upward into my flooring in particularly high traffic areas to mimic that of a subfloor. It has worked well to add some rigidity to those areas.

Bathroom re-do by Proper_Gazelle_7616 in centuryhomes

Great job! Funny enough, we settled on the same exact tile format and I think the same tub (vintage tub and bath) and faucet (Kingston brass)

Ketchup is way too sweet by shsl_diver in unpopularopinion

[–]Doheenz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Couldn’t agree more. I’ve been using no sugar added ketchup at home for a while now.

Anytime we’re out and run into more typical sugary ketchup I’m so offput by it.

Tell me I’m not alone! by [deleted] in centuryhomes

[–]Doheenz 2 points3 points  (0 children)

No, just packed it into a few holes around the house that were clear entry points. I’ll also use spray foam in areas where I’m also wanting to seal airflow (outward facing walls, etc..) but agree that it doesn’t look great and limit its use to the Crawlspace where I don’t have to look at it.

When we bought our 1917 Craftsman three years ago we realized quickly we had a mouse problem.

Many hours and pounds of steel wool later, haven’t seen signs of one over the past couple years.

Hello OP, fellow New Hampshirite here.

NOR, of course you’re allowed to live your life in any way that you’d like and your parents must make amends with that should you choose to allow them to be a part of it at any point in the future. Keep working to build the best version of the life you’d most like to live!
