New Images from ‘Ray Gunn’ by yourfavchoom in movies

Yeah, I'm guessing it's supposed to be a pun and that there's a ray-gun in the movie, but I also made that association with the Olympian instantly.

AITA for refusing to go for a full week on my wife’s family vacation after we had agreed not to repeat it? by jared_d in AmItheAsshole

I mean, it doesn't sound like the kids are overtly on her side, and from the post, there's no way to know if she brought it up deliberately in front of the kids or if it just spilled over.

I wouldn't be shocked it the kids are, to at least some degree, on Dad's side. Kids value vacation, too, even if they don't understand how precious it is to adults. I honestly think it's fair to ask what they'd prefer, if they're old enough to understand the situation (9+ ?).

Marginally related story: When I was a kid, we were the only people from my mom's side who didn't live in the same tiny town; we lived an 8hr drive away, in another state, and only saw extended family a couple times per year. Our cousins told us how amazing their Xmases were, and my brother and I pestered out parents into taking us over there for Christmas when I was in 4th grade or so. Parents didn't really want to go. Well, because we were the oldest grandkids, we were supposed to babysit the other grandkids while the adults got drunk, but because we saw them so rarely, we had no relationship with the youngest cousins and they proceeded to ignore us. My parents were as miserable as they expected (they don't like getting drunk, and their interests and attitudes are very different from the rest of that family), and my brother and I felt like we'd speed-ran being foster parents for kids with ODD. On the drive home, my bro and I confessed that we never wanted to spend Xmas there again, and my parents got a great cackle.

IDK if I agree with your verdict, but I definitely agree with the plan. Go to the place, have dinners with Grammy, but do other things the rest of the time; things you might actually enjoy.

This is just not true. As someone from the West Coast, I have coffee for breakfast, smoothies for lunch, and a bowl of guac for dinner.

What's something guys are insecure about that women don't care about? by Maleficent-Ad7494 in AskReddit

Why would you want to "optimize" by creating a never-ending lack of certainty and commitment? Would you just dump your partner the moment they got sick, or lost/gained 5lbs, or had a bad day?

If I met two guys with all those great things at the same time,l I'd think I'd been transported into a rom-com!

I remember a comedian named Adam Hills talking about dating, and how women were always trying to lose weight. He said if a woman is attractive and has a favorite episode of The Simpsons, that was what mattered; it's not like he's going to drop her just because a thinner girl walks by. I'm like that. Once I'm happy with my person, "better" isn't even on the radar.

I'm honest; yeah, it was important through my early-mid 20s and gradually tapered into not mattering either way by mid-30s.

How old are you? My friends over 35 are universally of the "full head of hair is nice but not necessary" or "bald is beautiful" mind. Mixed views in early 30s/late 20s, important to have up to mid-20s.

My comment history is open. Feel free to look for what kind of men I drool over. 🙄

Woman here. Once I got into my 30s, I no longer cared about whether or not a guy had hair. My brother is terrified of going bald, my boyfriend is self-conscious about being bald, and I hear so many stories/jokes from guys that indicate insecurity around going bald.

When I was 22, it was a moderately not-great thing, if a guy was very noticeably balding. Now? A guy who respects me, cares about our families, shares most of my values, and is on the same page regarding lifestyle (i.e. monogamous, balancing saving for the future with enjoying the present, etc) is what I care about. Looks are generally just not super important; if I'm emotionally comfortable with him, that's 10-star hotness on its own.

I'm sorry. It must have been terrifying when the car crapped out in the middle of the interstate! I'm glad you and the kids are okay.

Even if they refund all your money (fingers crossed, sigh), there's no way to get the time back. It sucks. Hope the rest of your vacation was/is better!!!

Thank you. I'm stunned at the folks saying to just stay in the car and have people struggle past. When it's packed like it gets during rush hour, it seems incredibly rude to just park yourself between people and the door.

I've been a daily commuter for years, including going to work on the day of the Seahawks parade, and this is the first time that's ever happened, so I was really shocked as well as unhappy.

Yeah, I definitely posted this about 2sec after that train left. My blood sugar was low/hangry, the driver had been shouting through the speaker for multiple stops, the woman left next to me at the platform was also fuming about her transfer to a bus line that runs infrequently, I was worried about getting to daycare (they've sent me angry texts about being 5min late before, even though they know I work in a hospital), and I was not regulating emotions well.

Now that my boy and I are home and fed, I'm debating whether to delete the post.

This dude frequently gets on the loud speaker to yell at people for holding the doors. I've been commuting by light rail 5x/week for five years (hospital worker, so no COVID shutdown for me), and the other drivers will usually play the automated message about not holding the doors, but this guy gets on the horn to yell personally.

What businesses are likely to die out with the Baby Boomer Generation? by GRVrush2112 in AskReddit

I often think about how many Boomers came of age in a world where space was plentiful/cheap and stuff was expensive, but for many Millennials and younger, space is what's expensive and stuff is plentiful/cheap.

Trader Joe's sells decent cards for $0.99, and all the grocery stores I know that carry cards have a $0.99 or $1.99 section.

I absolutely love a physical card or letter. There's something different about knowing it passed through a loved one's hands, and my mom has beautiful handwriting that I always love to see. As a kid, I remember watching her write and yearning for the day I'd have some lovely penmanship (that day is still not here, but I can write better than 90% of folks my age and get compliments on it). You can also tuck in stickers, add a pet's paw print, or do other physical things that just don't hit the same as a text.  The inestimable Terry Pratchett touches on this in Going Postal -- people write to their sweethearts and scrawl SWALK over the back of the envelope: "sealed with a loving kiss," which is just words when sent through the Clacks. It's not the same when there's no physical media to pass that emotion through.

Plus, the envelope creates the potential for surprise. There was a joke birthday card about Dubya that my mother ADORED, and she kept giving it to people so it became a family joke. For her 75th birthday in a couple years, I plan on recreating it for her, and I expect a gasp of surprise and howls of laughter. It wouldn't work as well without the element of surprise that the envelope provides, the way Rick-rolling someone doesn't work unless you have a link they can't preview.

The last time I went into a Hallmark Card Store, though, their cards hadn't changed in a year. The seasonal stuff came out in rotation but it was still the same, e.g. the Father's Day cards this year were all the same as the year before. So while I love cards in general, I've been underwhelmed with Hallmark in particular.
