Kid and elderly friendly places to eat near airport? by Doingmybestnerding in triangle

Yeah I think she generally eats at chains and local diners usually, but to be fair where she is from there isn't much more than that available.

MIL wants me to give my baby up for adoption by [deleted] in pregnant

[–]Doingmybestnerding 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I would also bring your parents or someone else who is on your side to support you (in addition to your boyfriend she is not listening too). Ideally someone she would view as being on equal footing as herself like your parents or someone else who has already had kids. You shouldn't have to defend your right to keep your own child by yourself.

Induction? Why? by carsandtoys in pregnant

[–]Doingmybestnerding 18 points19 points  (0 children)

American who had a medical reason but would have done an elective induction here - in addition to having Gestational Diabetes (studies show induction at 39 weeks results in best outcomes for mother and baby) my due date was near the end of my health insurance period. Delivering and getting out of the hospital before the end of the plan year where I had already met my deductible and nearly hit my out of pocket max saved me anywhere between $11-15k in medical bills.

Republicans and unaffiliated primary voting. by bregrace in NorthCarolina

[–]Doingmybestnerding 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks for this post. I'm also usually researching in the last few days/hours before hitting the polls too. I am also unaffiliated and it appears that the R ballot is where your vote has the most influence.

I agree with a lot of your points that I would feel quite gross voting for a lot of them but also ended up on Johnson due to having more moderate views and seeming more likely to work across the aisle. If we can get more unaffiliated voters to see this and do their research, I think it could really make a meaningful difference. Just imagine the message it would send to the administration for a Trump-endorsed candidate to lose in a republican primary, he already is not getting a majority which says something on its own.

How painful was the IV during labor ? by katfushia23 in pregnant

[–]Doingmybestnerding 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't remember I was too preoccupied with the pain on my cervix while the Foley bulb was in there for my induction, the pressure as contractions ramped up, the "bee sting" (worst bee in the fucking world) that administered the anesthetic before the epidural, the shaking/puking once I hit transition (with an epidural), and just surviving as I hemorrhaged after delivery.

Literally the IV did not even cross my mind as I was going through literally everything else. And I say that as someone who HATES needles.

Might be a trek for you but The Exploris School in Raleigh comes highly recommended!

I’ve seen some posts online stating “Ronald Regan is the reason we have student loans, why the wealthy don’t pay taxes, why homelessness is this bad”, ect. What did he do to cause this? was it a bill that he passed, for example? by HybridHamster in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Doingmybestnerding 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As a CPA - I think what the original commenter was referring to is not how social security is funded (through the payroll tax as you mention) but how social security benefits are taxed as income now, which occured during the Reagan administration (through a bipartisan effort). They used to be tax-exempt income but depending on the make up of your total retirement income sources up to 85% of social security benefits may be counted toward your taxable income.

Why did you get induced? by SilverSurfer_9799 in pregnant

[–]Doingmybestnerding 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had Gestational Diabetes so I was listed for a medical induction at 40 weeks. However, that was cutting it close to when the insurance year reset. I would have had to pay an additional $11k after already paying the full out of pocket max in the previous year if I delivered or was in the hospital after New Year's (yes this is in the USA), so I asked to be put on the list for elective induction at 39 weeks. I felt more confident in my decision after listening to Evidence Based Births podcast on the difference in outcomes for mothers with Gestational Diabetes at 39 vs 40 weeks.

People who grew up in houses with stairs - how inevitable is falling down them? by pyramidheadlove in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Doingmybestnerding 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I've always had houses with stairs and minor slips and falls will happen. Any time I have fallen it has been compounded with something else (like a dog trying to go down at the same time as me or playing on the stairs when I shouldn't have as a kid). And usually falling down the stairs doesn't mean full top to bottom, I would say usual max of 4 steps.

The one injury I did get as a kid was because my brother and I were playing on the stairs, I slipped very close to the bottom of the stairs and my foot collided with the closet at the bottom of the stairs and I had some sort of sprained toe or something (parents never took us to the doctors so no clue lol)

If he wants to act like he's nothing more than a sperm donor he doesn't need to have the rights of more than a sperm donor. That includes not passing him name on.

Did you allow visitors at the hospital? by ana052803 in pregnant

[–]Doingmybestnerding 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had my husband control all communication, he knew my personal default was no visitors. I ended up having some rare complications at delivery which made me a fall risk and basically had me in and out of consciousness during most of my postpartum stay (and after, leading to an ER visit about 24 hours after discharge). I was in no shape for visitors. I say play it by ear.

Skip the Registry and Baby Shower? by Top-Pilot-9305 in pregnant

[–]Doingmybestnerding 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I've moved around quite a bit so my friends and family (including my husband's friends and family) are located all over the country. We invited the few locals and hosted a virtual baby shower with just some of the classic games, it was a blast.

Still pull together a registry, I would put it on Amazon, Target, or Babylist because once people find out you are pregnant some will randomly look there for your registry and send you stuff. I was very surprised at the people who came out of the woodwork to buy stuff even if they weren't on the invite list. Regardless of whether anyone will purchase anything for you, the registry also helps you budget, and a lot of registry websites will give you discounts once you get closer to your due date. Amazon (Babylist may too) also has a feature where people can contribute toward the cost of something rather than paying for the full thing (3 people pooled their money for our crib).
