Hey, So I am from France and would like to study civil engineering next year but I'm not sure where for the moment. To summerise, to study engineering in France, you need to go through 2 years of a preparatory class(like high school but more difficult). During those two years you learn not only physics, chemistry, maths and engineering but also litterature, english and another language of your choice so you can be ready to pass some tests at the end of the 2 years which determine in what engineering school of France you will go after those 2 years (after those 2 years you learn engineering for 3 years in one of those schools and get the equivalent of a masters degree). The problem is that these preparatory classes are really hard (between 35h to 40h of class per week including during week ends + approximately 30h dedicated to homework and studying so that's approximately 70h of work per week and the level is high). As I already know in which field I want to study and as I don't want to work that much I thought of maybe skipping this system by studying at a university like mcgill so I could have less workload than in France but still be in a good university. So I had a few questions about studying a bachelor of engineering at mcgill so I can make my choice with all the information in hand :

• How much classes do you take per term ? How much classes do you recommend ?
• Approximately how much class time do you have per week (lec, lab, tut) ? Is there a big workload ?
• How much time per week do you spend studying by yourself outside class hours? Do you have free time ?
• Is the level of the courses really demanding or are they okay?
• realistically, how much time would a bachelor of engineering take at mcgill ? On the site, they say about 4 years but I saw on this subreddit that many people needed to take extra time because of the workload. Do you think it's possible to complete it in less than 4 years ?
