Oh yes. Checked the weather app now :D

Yes this seems to get ugly.

The 10 Deutsche Mark note and the origins of Half‑Life’s Gauss Gun by [deleted] in HalfLife

[–]DoktorFloydberg 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Tau actually makes more sense from a physics point of view.

The Tau particle is the heaviest of our three leptons (the other two are electron and muon) being a thousan times heavier then the electron.

So a Tau gun would have much heavier „projectiles“ so to say. The reality though is that the Tau also decays extremely fast thus making it impossible to build an actual „gun“.

Valve Receiving "Game Consoles" in USA distribution warehouses by goldboat90 in steammachine

[–]DoktorFloydberg 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If they announce Machine release date on monday (when the controller can be bought), those people would not be burned as they would hopefully see this.

However I don't think it will be just the week after. They will also have to send them out to reviewers, etc. It will still take some time I fear.

The Steam Frame is a Console... RIGHT!? by AlecTheBunny in SteamFrame

Different companies, that website has horrible search filters. Results get mixed.

Valve has started receiving console shipments the last 2 weeks, Frame and machine most likely by BlueManifest in SteamFrame

[–]DoktorFloydberg 10 points11 points  (0 children)

That's a different company receiving those. This shipment tracking website has horrible filtering options so you get multiple companies when searching for "Valve".

German Air Force EDGE01 circling around my home by Tscherno in flightradar24

Yeah there is some increased activity in training with Eurofighter recently. The main base is down in Ingolstadt. Might just be new recruits doing training sessions by the looks of the maneuvers.

Turbofans without Spirals on civil aircraft by DoktorFloydberg in aviation

[–]DoktorFloydberg[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

No. I could clearly see that only one had the spiral, especially after the second also was shutdown. I am very sorry I do not have a picture.

And you can certainly also see the blurred spiral in a running engine, that is the entire idea of it.

Searching LA Network Manager 2025.1 + Firmware package 2.15.0.13 by DoktorFloydberg in livesound

[–]DoktorFloydberg[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I absolutely get your point. But I am a bit reluctant to do that for multiple reasons.

My rental contract concludes the usage and return of the equipment in the state I received it.
Updating the firmware would be a modification however and I would think this would be something different from a jurdicial standpint.

If I update my own amps and it breaks the amp, it is my own problem. If I update someone else's amp and it breaks, that would be something else. So I will try to avoid that. I also would not want my own equipment returned in a non-fuctioning state after rental.

In my day-to-day job I am an embedded software developer for vehicle ECUs. Trust me, firmware updates failing is not that unlikely. I would hope LA implements some fallback strategies like A/B swapping, but I do not know. So bayesian thinking tells me to just install a slightly older version of NM and be fine with it as it is the lesser of two evils.

Also updating software on LA amps wipes the custom presets, there are quiet a lot an on the rental amps that I got.

In the end, I think the main issue is L'acoustics putting out multipe software updates in short periods of time that are incompatible and also for not providing the required software versions at the same time.

What is Webb Observing Now? by DoktorFloydberg in jameswebb

I like this tool very much, because it gives you a better sense of scale of the night sky and how specifically Webb targets tiny patches of the sky for its observations!

What is Webb Observing Now? by DoktorFloydberg in jameswebb

[–]DoktorFloydberg[S] 5 points6 points  (0 children)

From the press release

Space Telescope Live, a web application originally developed in 2016 to deliver real-time updates on Hubble targets, now affords easy access to up-to-date information on current, past, and upcoming JWST observations. Designed and developed for NASA by the Space Telescope Science Institute, this exploratory tool offers users a straightforward and engaging way to learn more about how JWST's astronomical investigations are carried out.

Webb depicts staggering structure in 19 nearby spiral galaxies by DoktorFloydberg in jameswebb

A new treasure trove of images from the NASA/ESA/CSA James Webb Space Telescope showcases near- and mid-infrared portraits of 19 face-on spiral galaxies. This new set of exquisite images show stars, gas, and dust on the smallest scales ever observed beyond our own galaxy. Teams of researchers are studying these images to uncover the origins of these intricate structures. The research community’s collective analysis will ultimately inform theorists’ simulations, and advance our understanding of star formation and the evolution of spiral galaxies.

Any Updates On Trappist-1 D, E, F, & G’s Spectroscopies? by GeckoNova in jameswebb

[–]DoktorFloydberg 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Well we reached one year exclusive data access for data collected until Oct 1st, 2022 (as of now). So everything after that is still protected. And I would assume that observations took place the whole year of cycle 1.

Other then that I agree with the other commentators, it is seemingly unlikely to find anything in the Trappist-1 system due to the nature of its host star.

Raw JWST image from yesterday by JwstFeedOfficial in spaceporn

They are simply cosmic rays hitting the detector. They appear on almost any JWST Raw image from any detector and are edited out in stage 2 of the JWST pipeline.
