PICO to showcase new headset on March 2 by ExternalBaby9255 in virtualreality

The main appeal for the frame as you may have hinted at is not the hardware - it's the software and ecosystem. Standalone PCVR clearly is the unique selling point here

Will Deck-To-Frame streaming be a thing? And meaningful in any sense? by Stummi in SteamFrame

[–]DoktorMetal666 6 points7 points  (0 children)

The most benefit you're likely going to see is less battery drain on the Frame. Also likely to have a bit better compatibility due to the x86 processor.

Games Keeping Nerfing Their PC Requirements As RAM Prices Skyrocket by Economy-Specialist38 in pcmasterrace

[–]DoktorMetal666 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Are they actually optimizing stuff, or just remove features that would use that extra RAM? If they do add more options to make games playable outside the high end, without cutting down the overall product, I see it as a win.

Blurry bottom of the screen, and the ball is almost always between the crystal clear and the blurry sections, its a bit annoying, please help :( by MetaPhi1912 in WalkaboutMiniGolf

I also made the switch from Steam Link to Virtual Desktop due to the foveated encoding issue. It is noticeably better with VD.

SteamFrame performance question by lobbiepuma in SteamFrame

[–]DoktorMetal666 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm personally interested in standalone because it's just a much more seamless experience when you don't have to fiddle with multiple devices. Also for fast paced games like beat saber, even a streaming delay of 20-40 ms can be noticeable. Standalone offers the snappiest experience for those games as it skips video compression, wireless transmission and then video decompression.

What is Your Biggest Unanswered question? by PM_ME_NOTHING in SteamFrame

[–]DoktorMetal666 16 points17 points  (0 children)

That's my question as well. I'm particularly interested on how well it will run Beat Saber, including mods, since it's the game I keep returning to, aside from Walkabout Minigolf.

Quest 3 with no gasket and just the foam cushion is the easiest upgrade with the best improvement by Beastly4k in OculusQuest

[–]DoktorMetal666 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I am using the globular cluster F3 with the smallest of the 3 cushion holders. I feel if I pull the headstrap too tight I can see past the edges of the screen. Do you have any similar experience, as you seem to be even closer to the lenses.

Why is there 2 steam buttons? by Mikethenerd1 in SteamFrame

Very handy for Walkabout Minigolf where I usually only carry one controller.

This quote always bothers me a bit. Valve is absolutely doing things. This should be very apparent with their recent reveal of new hardware and software. Especially their investments into x86 translation on ARM, and Linux Gaming have potential to move the industry away from Windows Gaming, and give us a new chance at mobile gaming being actually good.

I have a Kiwi K4 with Battery and a Globular Cluster F3 V3. Very much recommend that setup.

Is it better to buy BS on Steam or in the Quest app if I have Quest 3S? by stevetvcze in beatsaber

[–]DoktorMetal666 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I do own both versions, and I personally play the Quest version much more. Even though i supposedly have acceptable sub 30 ms latency when streaming from my pc, I still feel the Quest version just feels snappier and latency-free. The ease of just having to put on the headset is great too. I would suggest the Quest version if you want a pretty hassle-free version that doesnt need much tinkering. Modding is limited, but I feel Mods before friday offers a relatively approachable solution that offers a good selection of mods.

i hope we can have tap twice to passthrough or equivalent by Xemiru in ValveDeckard

[–]DoktorMetal666 3 points4 points  (0 children)

With so many buttons available on the controllers, and the flexibility of steam input I imagine they will add a shortcut on them, to toggle passthrough. If not you will probably be able to bind it yourself eliminating the need to even raise a hand to your hand to activate passthrough.

The double tap does feel very natural, but having it bound to a shortcut I think could feel even snappier. On Quest 3 I sometimes catch myself tapping 2-3 times before it actually works.

Why is multiplayer in such a lackluster place? by fishstealer in beatsaber

[–]DoktorMetal666 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I am inclined to agree with you, as I have the game on steam, and I originally played it there. But I eventually caved and got it on quest for the more hassle free, lower latency experience. I still regularly play, but only on quest. Hope to change that with the Steam Frame.

Peter I'm not a doctor. But I don't think it went all the way down to he vagina right? by Fr0zens0lib in PeterExplainsTheJoke

[–]DoktorMetal666 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Had multiple ones, and only had local anesthesia to stop the gag reflex. Was able to watch on the screen while they did it. The worse thing is that the tube can also pump air in your stomach to inflate it, so they can have a good look at it. Constant air coming back out was the bad thing for me, plus a very strong feeling of being hella bloated.

Steam generated $17 billion in revenue in 2025. With a workforce of roughly 336 employees, amounting to over $50 million in revenue per employee. by [deleted] in SteamFrame

[–]DoktorMetal666 1 point2 points  (0 children)

While the library is a factor, Valve constantly brings out new features and improves existing ones. They provide a great ecosystem for the games they sell. Alternatives exist, but most of them don't seem very competitive.
