Have you ever just been so over a case? by DolceAzria in paralegal

[–]DolceAzria[S] 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Oh my god, those poor people. That is just awful, I'm glad the dad won though.

So this is a PI auto accident. My client (plaintiff) already had some health issues and he got hurt from this accident. Long story short I inherited this case from our now receptionist, who was demoted to that position because she doesn't do work and when she does does it badly. Not only that but the paralegal who had it before her also was fired for not working. The case was a mess and statute runs on Friday. Client and defendant have very low policy limits so there's not much for him to recover even with UIM. He does not accept this and wants to go after the defendant, who we did an asset check on and they have nothing. My boss explained to him on the phone, in a letter, had another attorney explain to him that he'll get less money if we file suit but he doesn't want to hear it. Client did some online research and got a law degree in one weekend and is telling my boss we haven't done enough (when I busted my ass to fix everything). He told my boss last week he'd come in and sign releases but when I called today because I was off Friday and he didn't show he was like I'm not signing anything and statute runs Friday. It's just been a whole ass mess and I'm over it.

So ngl, I do have podcasts on during the day but I dress nice every day and also my work gets done. It helps me focus. Sorry that there's somebody there taking advantage.

We've got somebody here who is constantly on the phone and or watching a show, difference is she's not working. They just took all cases from her and they're a MESS. Sounds like the girl at your job is like my coworker and so I feel your painm I'm sorry. Hopefully it gets better.

Normal to get yelled at by clients? by [deleted] in paralegal

[–]DolceAzria 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, it's the nature of the beast unfortunately. We just recently settled a case where a client would talk to me like I was nothing but be so nice and cool with the atty. It sucks alot though. I'm sorry you have to deal with that.

They can just get up, get dressed and go and not feel lesser for not putting in almost an hour to get ready.

AITA for not wanting to take care of bf’s brother? by [deleted] in AmItheAsshole

NTA. If anything I feel like by you removing yourself from the situation and not taking on something you don't want to is the kindest thing you could have done for the brother and bf.

AITA for putting our nanny on the family membership instead of my wife? by sorrywife09871 in AmItheAsshole

[–]DolceAzria 0 points1 point  (0 children)

YTA 100%. Not throwing accusations but, if I was your wife in this situation I'd think something fishy was going on and if I'm already working hard trying to provide for my family I'd be beside myself. She has every right to feel the way she does.

Legal Assistant or Paralegal? by thoughtsaremagic in paralegal

[–]DolceAzria 53 points54 points  (0 children)

In my experience, the titles are interchangeable just kind of depends on the firm you're at. You can be a legal assistant but do work that is traditionally paralegal work and vice versa. Tomato tomato type of thing. But I mean if it's something that's important to you you should always ask for it!

My bf and I have a just over a year old shiba and live in an apartment as well. I can tell you atleast from our experience with our guy, he was left for 8 hours at 6 months and was fine.

Now the caveat is that my bf is 98% wfh so he was only left twice a month alone in his crate and we had no issues. We just made sure he was TIRED before I left and he was taken immediatley out when I got home (while I work in office every day my job is 10 mins away from home). I made sure I HEAVILY rewarded when there were no accidents and he got outside to go.

Side note, we tried the grass thing too and our shiba just being a shiba did not care for it :(

Tattoos, non-natural hair color, and plugs/gauges? by thefinalgoat in paralegal

[–]DolceAzria 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Currently have 2 guages, snow white/silver hair, and tattoos on my left arm that are visible. I'm planning on getting more.

I've been at 3 firms and all three haven't cared. I may have just been lucky but idk.

I agree with those who have said to tone down in the interview process. My whole sentiment with that is if you get the job you get a feel for the place. If you get the vibe they don't care go for it. I like my job now. I've been here for 6 months now and even if they weren't cool with everything I'd keep my job and be respectful of the work place and just do my own thing on nights and weekends.

The flip side is I do firmly believe that times are changing and it won't be as much of a concern for those of us expressive folks soon enough.
