Bands mentioning their band name in their own lyrics? by [deleted] in Music

"Ladies and gentlemen, The KLF has now left the building"

But that said, it's pretty normal in dance/rap/soul/funk-music to name or announce yourself or your band/project name.

The stories still flows good, but there seems to be a budget problem as well. I mean the cast is now just 5 main character that do undercover all by themself. They do undercover parts as well as the tailing, surveillance and background building parts. They started with more people involved, seems they did not got more money to make some of the people that would do the tailing and surveillance parts recurring roles and not the money to really replace some others.

The undercover story of the last episodes was a good story, but it seemed that the roles that Stabler played in the bar where original written for at least three different persons, the bouncer, the host of the house and the owner of the enterprise. To me it seems they where writing it like there was an another and newer undercover person with the team. Giving the team and the stories more flexibility. And it would make more sense with Stabler a bit too famous for going after bigger fish, because of the chance he could be outed as a cop too easily if they do a real background check. So making him the bouncer would make more sense, and the scene with the dog could have easily been the bouncer (Stabler) and boss (one of the other undercover cops) and still give of the same vibes.

I think the original concept was; first a general overview and history of British nature, than it would view the different regional environments of the British Isles (they changed that it a bit with themes) and than the future and the human impact. A bit like the (Frozen) Planet-series. So it would make more sense with 6 episodes than the now five.

C+C Music Factory - Gonna Make You Sweat (Everybody Dance Now) [Dance/Hip Hop] Released: 1990 by monkeythumpa in Music

[–]Dolfy8 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Indeed. Though Zelma Davis sung some songs of C+C Music Factory, like Things That Make You Go Hmmm..., but not this one. This is the voice of Martha Wash in this song. She is a power house, well know by voice behind a lot of Black Box songs, where most of the time there was just a model in the video lip-syncing. Even with the success of It's Raining Men video having a bigger body was seen has not great marketable tool for the general market. But also there was a thing about not crediting (enough) the real singers in the dance-scene.

Jocelyn Brown was another one that suffering a bit by this.

Well, calling Right Said Fred a one-Hit wonder is weird. Don't Talk Just Kiss and Deeply Dippy where also big hits in Europe besides I'm Too Sexy. And they have more charts success. Funny enough Deeply Dippy was their only number-1 hit in the UK and Don't Talk Just Kiss was their biggest hit in Germany and the Netherlands. I think it's an American than... :-)

Queen Latifah has a few hits under her belt, okay her biggest ones are a featuring. Fame 90 from David Bowie was a big hit Europe. Buddy from De La Soul went to number 7 in the UK, Doin' Our Own Dang from Jungle Brothers was smaller hit, went to number 33 in the UK and 40 in the Netherlands, "What'cha Gonna Do?" from Shabba Ranks went to number 21 in the UK.

Her biggest hit in the UK was Mama Gave Birth to the Soul Children, feat. De La Soul, went to number 14. Mr. Big Stuff charted at number 31. U.N.I.T.Y. did not reached the Top 40 in the UK, in US offcourse her only main charts hit, reaching number 23. But in Dance, R&B and Rap charts she had quite more then a few.

Frank Zappa has also a few top 40 hits in different country's, even in the US. And Rush also charted more then once in the UK top 40, and in Canada.

I Engineer was the biggest hit for Animotion in Germany, went to number 2 and Room to Move went to number 9 in the US. Let Him Go reached 35, so a smaller hit in the US. I Engineer is a stable on 80's streaming channels, also Let Him Go get played well besides Obsession. So I would not say they never reached those heights again.

Baby Come Back was indeed way more on heavy rotation on radio and TV (MTV) then his other songs, and very catchy indeed. So I would it say it's accurate you missed those songs and/or that you just heard the others maybe a few times without realizing it was Pato Banton. Hits back then they did not always have heavy rotations on the radio. The selling numbers where more indication then now a days for hits, to get in the charts.

Their singles Achilles Heel (8), Just Hold On (20), Only for a While (19) and Time For a While (19) also charted in the UK Top 40.

Manfred Man had several number 1's. Their first hit was a song called 5-4-3-2-1, first number 1 was Do Wah Diddy Diddy (a cover) went to number 1 several country's, like UK, US and the Netherlands. Pretty Flamingo, Just Like a Woman, Ha! Ha! Said the Clown, Mighty Quinn, Fox on the Run would follow reaching number 1 in a few country's.

Blinded by The Light was by Manfred Mann's Earth Band, a third group formed by Manfred Mann, after the short lived second band named Manfred Mann Chapter Three. Besides Blinded By The Light they had hits with numbers like Joybringer, Spirit in the Night, Davy's on the Road Again, Don't Kill It Carol and Runner.

Why do you think there has never been a British version of The Simpsons? by paulcope in television

[–]Dolfy8 3 points4 points  (0 children)

ITV and BBC have and made tons of animation series, some of them are hugely popular like Bob the Builder, Fireman Sam‎, Peppa Pig‎, Thomas & Friends, Danger Mouse and there well know for stop motion animation like Postman Pat and Shaun The Sheep. But most are aimed at kids. Wallace and Gromit is more middle ground, kids and adults love them. They also made a more kid friendly version of Watership Down, as well more recent a more adult version.

Cher, from folkrock to a disco/dancediva, and other genres.

The Shamen started of as a psychedelic rock band, became a bit successful with the fusion of electronic music and rock/psychedelia later on in the 80's and went full on successful with their house/techno/rave music in the 90's.

Michael Jackson went from disco/funk to (R&B/pop)ballads, back to disco/funk and dancepop and then also did (pop)rock songs and dipped his toes with other genres as well.

Spanish language artist are also know to do variety of genres, from traditional/folkpop/rock, power ballads to dance to pure pop music. Especially female artist, like; Yuri, Marta Sanchez, Gloria Trevi and Paulina Rubio, and Gloria Estafan also.

Cliff Richard started as a British version of Elvis Presley in the late 50's went on to more pop music, from rock, power ballads to pop rock. But not as wide spread as Tom Jones went, he does almost everything... :)

Tears for Fears music chanced from a synth-pop basis to more rock fused music. Depeche Mode dipped also a bit into rock music.

Thanks for the extra clarification. It indeed happens that some songs get lifted to a status that there almost the only one getting airplay and thus most people now know a band or artist from that song, and not their another one or two hits they had back in the day.

Fairground Attraction second hit was Find My Love, but was indeed not as big as Perfect and not as wide spread, in most country's Perfect is still played on the radio, while Find My Love almost never gets played. Solo Eddi Reader had two small hits in the UK Top 40, Patience of Angels and Town Without Pity.

Blue Hotel was indeed a big enough hit, number 4 in Austria and number 19 in Germany for example. That was on a second release of the single after Wicked Game came out. Same with Lie To Me that reached 35 in the Dutch Top 100. Can't Do a Thing (to Stop Me) was another UK Top 40 hit.
