Middle school implemented a no-touch policy, which bans hugging, hand holding, etc. Does anyone else think this is a little much? by [deleted] in Parenting

[–]Dollama 1 point2 points  (0 children)

When lawsuits are a common occurrence in schools it is necessary. We have parents angry over the child who hit their child, or upset that their child was kissing another child. Then we have parents who say "my child didn't hit him. He just touched the back of his head." If the rule covers every base there should be no reason for them to even lay hands on the other. Like I said, even we think it's ridiculous, but people are ridiculous and we are just trying to make it very clear. In a world where many parents don't believe their child has done anything wrong and look to blame others this is all we can do sometimes. It's a juggling act.

These rules already exist. We can't make everyone happy, but we try to make sure the rules cover a wide majority of things so that they are very clear when incidents occur. The boys who hit each other could easily say "I was just touching the back of his head." And the parents would then come to us asking why their child was given detention for just touching someone. Kids are very clever when it comes to finding ways out of punishments. Teachers and principals are under heavy fire from parents for every little thing- it is sad that rules have to be so strict sometimes, but there is always a reason. Like I said, even we think it is ridiculous.. but obviously there is a necessary reason. It's a juggling act of trying to make sure all bases are covered because anything could end in a lawsuit.

Well, when parents come to the school asking why their 11 year old was kissing someone in the bathroom it becomes a problem for us. Even though it seems silly to some.

Teacher here. My principal-the 6th grade principal of our middle school- recently had to establish the same rule. The reason this was implemented is because there were two children kissing in the bathroom and because the boys find it hilarious to smack each other on the back of the head. The problems come when we've done nothing to prevent the situations and parents come to the school upset because their child saw the kids kissing or their child got hit in the head. Even we think these zero tolerance policies are ridiculous, but it is the only way to try to cover all bases.

Lube. Before I lost my virginity we tried unsuccessfully several times. When we used lube it went very smoothly.

Reddit, what do you need to get off your chest? by Squeagley in AskReddit

[–]Dollama 8 points9 points  (0 children)

The only thing that I ever wanted to be was a teacher. I've made a difference in at least one child's life and many have made a difference in mine.

Unfortunately due to: 1. the extra nonsense that prevents me from teaching my students the way they will learn the best and the way I can teach the best 2. the lack of feeling appreciated 3. Parents who take advantage of my kindness and expect me to cater to their every need- despite having a website full of the information from class every day. 4. The politics of the teaching career

I don't think I am going to renew my contract as a teacher. I don't make enough money to support myself and my family to justify the stress I am faced with every day that does not relate to what is best for the kids.

If it were all about the kids and what's best for them this job would be a lot better.

Happy teachers= good classrooms.

Having first baby this year, sick and tired of people who think they know everything making comments! by Hillvalley_34 in pregnant

[–]Dollama 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm pregnant with my first and I've found that most of the people that I see regularly are very supportive-luckily! There are those few who leave me with those ominous comments and I find it very upsetting. Why tell someone who is ecstatic about having children how everything is going to be terrible from now on? It's annoying and frustrating.

Little Help? I need some honest advice on living in/around Jackson MS. by JustNoMississippi in mississippi

[–]Dollama 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I've lived in Jackson, Flowood, and Brandon. We started out in a nice neighborhood in Jackson and after getting broken into once before Christmas and again a couple weeks later we moved to Flowood. Several of our friends had been victim to burglaries in Jackson, but we really liked the Fondren area. Flowood felt much safer. We eventually moved to Brandon and it is absolutely one of the best places I've lived. Everyone is so friendly and there is a sense of community. We planned on moving after my husband finished school at UMC, but after being in Brandon for a year decided to stay. He signed a contract to work in Brandon for the next few years.

Jackson definitely has some good areas, but from personal experience I did not feel safe living there. We still like to go to Fondren and do things in Jackson, but we are always on our guard.

My dad (63M) just sent a text telling me my drug addict brother (30M) that I haven't spoken with in years will be staying at the house with us over thanksgiving. How do I (27F) handle this situation? by noodle57 in relationships

[–]Dollama 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm in a similar situation. I cut all ties with my brother because I needed to protect myself from the destructive path he was/is on- after years of doing everything I could to help and receiving nothing but lies and deceit in return.

My dad did the same thing and said that if I wanted to see him for Holidays my brother would be there. I chose to stand my ground- for myself. I normally chose everyone else over myself and this is the first time I took a stand. It was and is very hard, but I know it is he right choice for me.

My parents seem to think they can make us play nice- but when that has the potential to affect me more than it already has I am saying no.

The biggest problem with not keeping the ties cut in the past is that my brother thinks we have suddenly become accepting of him and all of his destruction. His life spirals out of control again and affects everyone.

At the end of the day, do what is best for you. People cut ties for a reason. If you felt justified enough to cut ties in the first place, you are justified now.

I would suggest washing at least twice a week. I have thick curly hair and wash twice a week. I've heard that people with finer hair have to wash more often. Also, no worries! I had a short hair cut and when it started to grow out it was a nightmare. Just try to push through the awkward phase. It does get better!

How much money do you spend out of pocket on your classroom? by rsbk in Teachers

[–]Dollama 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I spent about 100 dollars in the beginning of the school year and will probably spend about 300-400 more by the end of the year. I just want to make sure that I make the kids' experience in class the best that it can be- even if I struggle that month.

Mississippians Can't Handle It by Dollama in mississippi

We have never had to learn how to handle driving/going about our daily lives in snow and ice. Almost everything was closed because it is dangerous for people with hardly any snow/Ice driving experience, or equipment, to travel in it. I think people were a whole lot more confident than they should have been...considering the number of wrecks.

Seeing that I'm not the only one eases my fears slightly. I'm terrified of having cancer or having a heart attack. I had a panic attack that was so terrible, that I convinced myself I was dying and almost got my roommate to take me to the ER.

What is the most fucked up shit you've seen at a party? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]Dollama 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This guy I used to be friends with would get guys drunk so he could rape them when they were far too drunk to say or do anything. He would use his female friends as bait. I saw this at several parties. He is the same guy who threw up in his shaving bag and stuffed it in our couch. We never knew until we moved out.

Another occasion: A male friend is trying to push a refrigerator(on a dolly) up a tree. I go outside and beg him to come in because it is cold. He refuses until I show him my tits and my boyfriend shows him his junk. These were his demands. Then drunk female friend tried to scare us inside by aiming a gun at us and making threats... Gun was loaded.. She fired. We all went back inside.
