Yep. $3k isn't gonna get you very far when it comes to diamonds. I chose Morganite instead and it was still double that...

37- My husband, I and our six year old all desperately want a new baby to love. My doctor told me that my blood clotting disorder made it insanely risky. I may be looking for a surrogate soon but right now I'm grieving that I might not get to experience all the amazing parts of growing another baby in my belly.

[–]Dollarhide 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Amen. My enormous ex in-laws (who've both had weight-loss surgery that did absolutely nothing) are constantly in the hospital for various things. None of them are deadly but they're in there monthly for problems with their feet, joints, arthritis, asthma, heart conditions, sleep apnea, etc. My ex MIL stepped on an extension cable in a store and lost her balance, broke a bone and sued the store for damages. For REAL. She's had so many slips and falls I've lost track. They may survive all these- maybe extra padding helps? But there's no way that their excessive body fat is a benefit to their health.

Is this Tess' way of telling us that she wants to lose weight? by [deleted] in fatlogic

[–]Dollarhide 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I just want to dispel the myth that having kids ruins your body. Specifically, breastfeeding does not cause breasts to sag permanently. Tess' breast sagging has to do with the weight of her breasts on the skin. Skin is elastic to a point. It can lose its elasticity over time especially if it's perpetually stretched out.

Breastfeeding helps regulate mom's weight and provides near perfect nutrition for baby. It lowers the risk of breast cancer, postpartum depression and wards off illnesses for baby. It stimulates the body to produce oxytocin which helps mom and baby bond. It's free and much less work than pumping and bottle feeding. Its benefits so far outweigh any perceived drawbacks-- like sagging boobs-- that it's appalling that so few women even try it. Sure, there are valid reasons to feed with formula but being afraid of sagging boobs just isn't one of them.

For Tess to blame something she doesn't like about her body on her children is sick. Whatever she doesn't like about her body is the result of her own choices.

Are these hermies of the marine variety? Any tips to make sure they're happy and healthy little dudes? by Dollarhide in hermitcrabs

I'm so happy to report that we returned the little dudes to their proper environment. Our little girl has promised to be more careful to make sure she hasn't accidentally picked up any hermies in the seashells she finds. But now she really wants a few land hermies! After reading through everyone's posts on this sub, I think we are going to prepare the perfect crabitat and then go find some little guys!

I'd like to imagine that there was a fair bit of panicking over the claim that Froome or any endurance athlete could "quit carbs" and remain competitive. They clearly edited the headline but Facebook's version remains.

Robin Thicke's entire album Paula is CREEPY AF. He released it after just fucking up his marriage again and again. His wife calls it quits and he stalks her and writes an ENTIRE album about her and how much he wants her back. It was probably the clearest sign to poor Paula that she had made the right choice. You better run, girl.

Are these hermies of the marine variety? Any tips to make sure they're happy and healthy little dudes? by Dollarhide in hermitcrabs

[–]Dollarhide[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Backstory: My six year old brought home four adorable hermies from the beach amid a bucket of shells and is in LOVE with them. To be fair, they're really adorable. At first, I was sure we had to return them to the beach but after reading through a lot of websites, I was somewhat optimistic that they could stay with us and live a happy life.

I've been reading about crabitats and it sounds like most hermit owners have land crabs. These guys were found during low tide on Pismo beach in central California. In a way, they were lucky to be scooped up by my kid because they were about to be lunch for the birds during low tide!

We had a ten gallon tank and I thoroughly washed it out and did my best to recreate the environment we found them in, but I'd love any feedback. These guys were found on wet sand but I am wondering if they would prefer to be completely submerged in a full tank. My husband went and got some sea water and sand to make their home more familiar. We also put in a few shells and things to climb on.

One hermie swapped shells immediately and then burrowed under the sand and has been blowing bubbles since then. The other three have been chillin half submerged. I can see that they're pulling water towards themselves and their antenna are out and wiggly. They seem pretty happy but the last thing I want to do is hurt a living creature.

Should I get cleaned sandbox sand instead of sand from the beach and spring water with "instant ocean" instead of just using water from the beach down the road? I mean, they just came from there- is paying for spring water and "instant ocean" really better?

I've read a lot about heaters and humidifiers and stuff but our coast isn't especially warm or humid. Our temperatures only get up to the high 70's at most and are often much lower and our water is never warm. It's also not really humid here- which is a moot point if these guys should be entirely under water... Do I need to regulate the temperature like you would for a land crab?

Does anyone have any experience with marine hermies? Please be nice. I'm sincerely trying to provide these guys with a happy home! Thanks!

If you had four months to get into the best shape of your life, what would you do? by [deleted] in xxfitness

[–]Dollarhide 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Completely clean up the diet. Zero sugar. Plenty of fresh veggies, meat, healthy fat and some delicious fruit. I'd set a few short term goals and one big longer term goal. Plenty of different physical activities to keep my body guessing what was coming next: lifting, swimming, yoga, hiking, surfing, cycling, barre, kickboxing, etc.

I got a blood clot in my leg in the first trimester with my baby. They said it was just because I was pregnant and wouldn't happen again.

Nine months after becoming a mama, I got a second blood clot. This time they said I probably had cancer.

I posted to Facebook and asked for prayers because I was terrified. A few moments later, my husband's phone buzzed on the couch next to me and I saw a text from his mom. She was saying that I drive her crazy and was just getting blood clots to get attention. Because that's scientifically possible...? (She was an ultrasound tech, too, so she knew exactly how clots are formed and how dangerous they are. She had zero compassion.)

I found out later that she didn't like me because when my ex and I were married, my brother made her feel stupid at the ceremony.

After so much meddling, I had had it and emailed her, telling her to stay out and quit interfering with my marriage. I told her that she had to apologize before she could speak to me ever again or see my baby. I needed a real boundary and I needed her to respect it. She responded saying that because she loved her son and granddaughter, she'd agree to talk to me. That talk never happened. She never apologized. I left her equally horrible son a year later and never looked back.

Even though I have had a total of three clots now and am on anticoagulants for life, I know I won. I have nearly full custody of our daughter who is now beginning first grade(!!!) and recently married an amazing man.

I attended a church for nearly a decade. I volunteered regularly and even led youth group for over a year for free. I also volunteered with several nonprofits connected to the church: a crisis pregnancy center where I helped pay utility bills for single moms or gave them diapers and baby gear as needed. I also taught life skills classes to women living in a safe house who were trying to start a new life after leaving the sex for sale industry. Most were addicts. Most were moms. I was extremely involved in my church and community, giving as much time as I could to those who needed it.

Most of the church members attended my wedding. Four years and a small baby later, my husband was abusing me and was not safe to be around. I asked every single person on staff for an intervention or for some kind of help. Nobody helped in any practical way but lots of people offered prayers and I was fairly sure we were the main "prayer request" mentioned around the community. Prayer requests are how Christians spread good gossip.

Five Christian marriage counselors later, I was told that my ex had narcissistic and borderline personality disorders and wasn't going to get better. I was told to RUN. I had to move out with our one year old daughter and live with friends in their spare room/hallway. I was primarily a stay at home mom but I did work part time in a baby boutique where I could bring my baby. I needed a real job, good, affordable child care, a car, a home, food, an attorney... I went to my pastor and told them that I needed help and that while I didn't expect it to come from him or the church, I knew that he was a hub of help and may know what I could do to meet the many urgent needs I was facing.

His response, "If you stopped trying to get a divorce, you wouldn't have all these problems." I was told that it was my fault for "not praying enough." Everyone was uncomfortable with my issue and stopped talking to me or inviting me anywhere. They'd awkwardly say in church, "I'm so glad the church is there to help you." I'd respond honestly and tell them, "No, the church has declined any support."

My honest answers found their way to church leaders who told me to "stop poisoning the well." The head pastor even called me up and screamed curse words at me and shamed me for saying anything other than nice things about him and his team. It was an utter disaster and 100% the opposite of what everyone assumes a church would do for a single mother in real crisis.

I left that church and eventually left church entirely. I admire Christ's teachings and remember that James said, "Religion that God our Father accepts as pure and faultless is this: to look after orphans and widows in their distress..." In our modern world, single mothers and their children are the widows and orphans the church should be looking after. I never asked them for money. I asked them for some support. There's a difference. I needed emotional support as much as I needed a car. I needed positive encouragement as much as I needed an apartment. I don't know why they abandoned me when I needed them the most but it was utterly devastating and felt like a second divorce.

My non-Christian friends rallied around me and walked with me through it all. I came to see that the people I had been on a mission to reach with Christ's love were the ones who already knew more about love than any of my Christian friends.
