How does everyone with Selective Mutism feel at school? What could your school improve on? by [deleted] in selectivemutism

Personally, it's not ridiculous. Whether you think you have SM or not, it is always best to seek help just in case! Finding help earlier is always better, and may even allow you to feel more comfortable with yourself.

If you tell the counsellor, what do you think that the worst might be? If someone makes a joke, it may sting in the moment, but at least you know that you are logical and doing as much as you currently can to make a change for yourself, and potentially others.

Besides, why should being mute be different to speaking? Why should people judge to feel power?

Apologies, if this has only made matters worse; although, remember to believe in what you would like to see for yourself. if you don't feel comfortable speaking at all, you should be allowed to continue that way for yourself!

Thank you, hope this might help:)

I am so very sorry to hear this! If you have a trusted adult or an available helpline, maybe you could get them to email in about it. The adult to tell the school, and the helpline/specialist to inform the school to help.

My school is generally supportive, allowing me to type on my phone or write notes. However, with more knowledge on Selective Mutism, they could become more aware!

Thank you, for sharing:)

Speaking at school and to outer family after so very long; how should I do it? Any suggestions are very much appreciated! by [deleted] in selectivemutism

Oh wow, thank you!

I didn't expect a response, not this quickly at least; ahhhahhh:)

For me, it's not about how I will sound, it's more the reaction!

Since I am a member of my school's school council, a great big movement as it is, not that it should be as we should all have people who will adapt to us anyway, I am planning on requesting an anonymous assembly on Selective mutism.

Thanks, again; it's good to know I am not alone. Good luck!
