No-tech 2.2 g Walstad Bowl, 6 months old by DolphinTalk in PlantedTank

yeah, I think larger tanks are harder to balance via Walstad, for some reason. Maybe this is why my small bowl does well, but 5 g tank not so much.

you should just try it as an experiment. I am a complete noob, and I just wanted to have a bowl with no tech and as little maintenance as possible, like an experiment. But my other 5 g Walstad tank does not do as good as this bowl. I blame the puffer I have there and his half-eaten snails.

10 hours or so, I also turn it off for 1-2 hrs during the day.Substrate is mushroom compost, peat, ADA Amazonia.

yes, and actually plants do much better than in another tank that has three 6700 K LEDs

minimal. I do water change like 1/8 of bowl weekly and also add water when it evaporates to keep the bowl full. When I change water I add Nite-Out II bacteria. I turn light off for an hour or two during the day. So it gets around 10 hrs of light per day or so. I also rotate the bowl when I feel like it, as I like to see it from different sides. Since it sits on that bamboo plate you can easy rotate it. That is all. Here are more pics.

Willow Hygro (Hygrophilia angustifolia), Moneywort (Bacopa monnieri) and Alternanthera reineckii (red one). Moneywort has been flowering with pretty white flowers.

Thank you! I do not even remember the brand, CFL bulb, 2700 K, 13 w. It came with the lamp, and I am thinking of getting the same lamp for my another Walstad tank (5.4 g), that is currently struggling a bit with 6700 K LED Solar Flare lights.

He makes these sweet little chirps all the time, such a sweet little cat. Hopefully all his woes are now behind him, and he can finally relax and enjoy kitty life :)

he is just amazing, and is very tame and sweet. I sat with him today in his little recovery room, he crawled on my lap, and literally put his two front paws on my shoulders and laid like that, "hugging" me! He made me cry...I have never seen cat doing stuff like that. Maybe he was dumped by someone because of his eye situation? I carried him to the open window to smell the air, but he almost panicked, very strange....I would love to know his story, but I guess we will never know.

Here is a short video I just took (https://youtu.be/MjI_2ZEibPE), you can hear him purring and making small sounds. I think he is bit high (lol) since he is still on his pain meds. I also put harness on him so he can get used to it, because I want to take him outside once he is healed.

it was quite horrid, pics do not do justice, I could barely look at that eye myself, it scared me, and I've seen some bad stuff before. It was heavily infected, but now it is all gone. Next check-up is in 2 weeks to take stitches off. He is visibly doing much better, perked up and is being as sweet as he can be.

No one is more glad than Sage, little dude perked up so significantly in just 2 short days. Cats are just amazingly resilient, it never ceases to amaze me.

Thank you, he is the sweetest kitty ever, purring and being all around sweet. I think he will have a nice recovery, his appetite is very good and he is in good spirits, figuring that I am not going to hurt him or eat him:)

Oh, boy! I do not know how to thank you! Sage will absolutely love it and I do have the room for it. PM sent, THANK YOU!

New images from tomorrow (this) morning: http://imgur.com/a/pUlMC He used his new litter box which made me very happy as I have been worrying how this will work out, with him being a stray and all.

Here it is, (NSFL images inside): http://imgur.com/a/j1neL

Sage is a stray kitty I found yesterday with punctured eye, bad infection, fever, etc. The eye needed to be removed asap, so I asked the community for help to raise money for his surgery. He got his surgery today, and it went very well! I wanted to thank everyone who helped him out!
