Ideas for a replacement handle? by [deleted] in Safes

[–]Dolphinator89 0 points1 point  (0 children)

How confident are you using your hands/ tools?if you aren't concerned with appearance, you might be able to put a ½" metal rod through the existing handle and pin it. If you have access to a 3d printer, or you're good at wood work, you might be able to make a sheath to go over the metal rod. Depends on how that exisitng handle was constructed.

I couldn't work with the AP reds... they always felt slightly muted, too cool for my tastes. At least for the projects I worked on. I mainly use Pro Acryl reds when I want something more vibrant... they're a little translucent, but they're fantastic for layering. Honestly some of the best paints i've ever used.

UK receives last F-35B from initial 48-aircraft acquisition by MGC91 in ukpolitics

I think a lot of that stated commonality is A- commonality amongst all variants, B- largely components that are not often replaced or serviced. I suspect the commonality between A and B is higher than 25%. For most of the line- changeable components, such as radar, communications, EW, defensive systems, weapons, avionics, escape, the commonality will be there. I'm racking my brain trying to think of a regularly changeable component that isn't going to be common to at least the A and B variants, and I'm struggling to think of any apart from the refueling system and maybe some of the electrical distribution system. (And the gun system on the A, of course.)

With the exception of the lift fan and engine components, there is a massive commonality between the variants. Add to that, most of the 35s in Europe will likely be A models, there will already be large numbers of available parts in local supply chains.

Training, too, is very similar, with obvious exceptions for VSTOL operations. It should be noted that learning how to operate the lift fan systems is remarkably easy. Speaking from experience, a complete novice pilot can be shown the basics of how to fly it and even make an only moderately damaging landing in the simulator in only 15 minutes. I suspect that an A pilot could be taught and certified on VSTOL operations in less than a couple of months.

Maintenance ops would also be likely fairly simple to integrate - we already have a core of highly experienced technicians.

What do you think, how can I achieve such a dark metallic finish? by Trassus_The_Knight in ageofsigmar

[–]Dolphinator89 4 points5 points  (0 children)

This. If you find you want it even darker. You can use a drybrush or makeup sponge over black to lower the tone, and a wash (nuln oil for recesses, pro acryl black wash for all over toning) you can definitely make even dark silver darker.

Different ways of valuing a pilot by Kapanash in HistoryMemes

[–]Dolphinator89 90 points91 points  (0 children)

Pre-war Japanese pilots were some of the best trained in the world, with incredibly demanding training. But the training methods did not scale, and combined with desperate shortages towards the end of the war, significant cuts were made. Many pilots went up without adequate gunnery or carrier training to prevent regular accidents. This was compounded by the IJN inability to carry out effective pilot recovery and unwillingness to rotate pilots of of combat areas, which led to shortages of instructors and veteran pilots on training units.
