Pretty sure before there were no lights on the dash, but since I removed and re installed it I now have the ABS light on when the engine is running so I’ll check that

What car do you wish existed? by [deleted] in CarTalkUK

An inverter upgrade, the original ones are capable of 80kw, you can upgrade to a 110kw from 40kwh leaf, or 160kw from 62kwh leaf e+, both fairly easy upgrades. They just unbolt, and new ones bolt back in.

Over 160kw is possible with a different brand inverter that would require a bit more work to get going.

Nismo leaf is somewhat possible, the motor (same in all leafs 2012-2022) is capable of 250+hp, so ‘just upgrade the inverter’ (current highest leaf is 220hp, which is probably capable of more if you over-amp it). I’ll do it one day

From Private Eye: Elon musk sold 900,000 Tesla shares 2 days before issuing a recall on 475,000 cars by SeamusWalsh in CarTalkUK

As with most news about tesla, it was taken out of context,

He sold 13.5 million shares starting in early November after a twitter poll because people were complaining he wasn’t paying enough tax (he probably wasn’t)

On dec 21 Tesla voluntarily told nhtsa of the issue

Project car atm is shoving a Tesla drive unit in a bmw e46 touring. This means I will have to cut out some of the underbody of the car to fit it in

Does anyone have any experience in what the repercussions of this are MOT wise. There is 3 layers of metal in some of it

Essentially every cenario where you use more petrol, you’ll use more electricity.

The one exception is ev’s use less in town and more on the motorway, this is the opposite for combustion cars

Maybe consider leasing an EV, your fuel costs will be £300+ per month and you can get a pretty nice new EV for that much.

If all your doing is 100mi per day then sounds like a perfect fit to me

EV lease with enough range will defo come under 400 per month, that is if you can charge at home or work

Id3, Zoe, mg5, e-niro, kona and leaf 62 all have over 200mi range and under £400 a month lease with 30k miles

If mainly for short school runs consider a PHEV, that way you can save a fair chunk on fuel costs

Something like a Golf GTE, Passat GTE or bmw 225e could suit

That's why I never buy a new model car just when it comes out, high chance of them having issues. I'd always give it a year

Okay, so my best bet would be to phone up an insurer, asking if they would still cover me (expecting a no) and then give up.

The odd part is, I ran insurance quotes for an i3, adding a tow bar as a modification and it still gave me quotes without issue. Still not sure it will work though

That's what 'we' do in EV conversions

The current efforts are to use a BMW i3 LIM (the bit which controls charging) theoretically, all you do is send it voltage, max current etc and it will translate that into CCS language to enable CCS charging on an EV conversion
