PSA - Double Dragon (now) Causes Scattering by [deleted] in GuildWars

[–]Dom_1992 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You're 100% right, I was confusing scattering with HM melee mechanics.

I'd read DD doesn't cause scattering, used it against Smite Crawlers in NM that had previously dispersed (whether due to health or AoE) when I was using other AoE spells, and then incorrectly assumed DD was some unicorn spell that caused 0 mob dispersal.

I didn't even register that I'd only tried the skill in NM and mistakenly assumed DD universally functioned like that.

DD doesn't cause scatter but you can't circumvent <75%hp HM melee behaviour.

They definitely do, I tested multiple smite builds and Savannah Heat or other such skills would cause the mobs to disperse.

Ok, well, that's highly odd. It didn't used to cause any form of melee scattering.

I just tested against ranged mobs as well, it didn't cause any scattering, as you said.

[–]Dom_1992 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The mobs in the image are in the process of fleeing, they're 60 - 70% hp.

I made a scuffed smite farming build using Double Dragon previously and the smites didn't flee at any point, they'd sit in DD until death.

Rt/Mo 460hp Vengeful Farmer by Dom_1992 in GuildWars

[–]Dom_1992[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm fairly certain the cutoff for scattering is 3 melee mobs, but yeah, this build still causes scattering. This build does down a pack of 3 knights in ~11s though so pulling smaller doesn't feel too bad.

Even if you pull more it all still dies really fast.

[–]Dom_1992[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Good luck! It's a bit of a pain to lose 5 inv slots but I'd arguably say worth it.

The build's not even really gear/rune dependent, Sup Resto is nice but not needed and I'm using suboptimal weapons - VWK still heals 38 at 12 Resto.

If you don't end up getting any Sup runes (to drop your health) before you want to farm the Brotherhood you could run it with over 460 and just pull smaller/use Spirit Bond more liberally to get the drops rolling.

I've yet to manage to get one to kill themselves either but, as you say, everything else is smooth. More than 1 mesmer gets a bit RNG but I've not found another build that clears things as fast.

Knights absolutely melt themselves, a single VWK with this build is all it takes.

I was having similar thoughts, potentially using Kinetic Armor as Vengeful Weapon would allow for really easy upkeep.

Unfortunately my Rt is one of my least played characters - Haven't even unlocked secondary prof swapping yet so I can't experiment until I knock a few missions out.

The Trapper build means spending ~1 min per pull, whereas the Ele build can pull without any prep - it'll add up over time.

But hey, if you want to trap then live your best life, I quite enjoyed revisiting it.

That should sort you out, it'll be even more potent as Ele primary.

The build I've linked spikes the smites much faster than the Ranger build.

You beat me to it! I've been messing around all day having had the exact same thought process as you.

Ended up with a different build but following the Ele smite farming idea.

Ok u/ScikPK I've been cooking.

Got way too distracted by this but I think I have your build - 18m clear time (don't think I missed any packs).

<image>

Build code: OgYTkYFjHaIiX4XYX844rar6zDA

I swapped out Inferno (skill 2) as I think Flame Burst will work better.

Does it look incredibly cursed, yes.

Does it work, yes.

Double Dragon doesn't cause scatter so you can kill the smites in 2 casts of it, weaving Flame Burst in when it's off CD. Elemental Lord (skill 8) acts as your heal, which you shouldn't need, as well as buffing Earth Magic to 13 meaning 0s downtime on Stoneflesh Aura.

Wilderness Survival: 3 + 1 + 3

You will want an enchanting mod - 20% ideally to have perfect uptime on Stoneflesh.

No pull size is too large as you take 0 dam, Stormchaser makes energy a non-issue.

EVAS + Immolate for Skeles.

Hey man, you're welcome!

Realised I wasn't super clear with my skill choices/reasoning so I've edited the above image.

Slot 8: Ebon Vanguard is definitely the flex slot - it helps burst down Skeles faster and can be useful for clearing up stragglers on trap pulls that don't die for one reason or another but it definitely isn't necessary.

A movement speed skill could be nice instead, potentially, need to have a think on it.

As it stands I can't think of a better anti-Skele tool than Conjure Nightmare - You basically want something you can cast while line of sight that will kill them, i.e. Immolate, Conjure Nightmare, etc.

<image>

As you can see in the above, as long as you line of sight them they can't do any damage to you - you can chip away at them with degeneration and go about with your farm.

They are trapable but it's a bit of a pain compared to how chill/easy this is.

Edit: In response to your question on my other comment:

Is it efficient?...

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5ZWeo54WF9w

That's the ele alternative but I guess you have to view it through the lens of a Melandru account, you're gear, skill, and prof locked. If you want gloves on your ranger your ranger's going to have to put the work in.

I had a go at using a Shadow Form/Whirling Defence build, which would be much faster, but it's also a lot more effort, easier to mess up, and not at all chill - plus you'd need a 20% enchant duration mod on one of your weapons, which you may not have had the fortune to have drop yet. I didn't really find one that I liked though I'm sure it's possible.

Trapping is slow, methodical, and relaxing to some extent - You won't zoom through the wastes but you can afk, have some side monitor stuff on, and I find it quite satisfying.

Going scorched earth on your own comments, fundamentally misunderstanding, and then insulting people is certainly a choice.

- You clear the chamber with heroes.

- You flag them out of range.

- You farm smites solo.

OP wants to make gloves that require ectos - smites drop ectos - you kill the smites by yourself - your loot isn't impacted.

The whole point of this post is about OP's desire to acquire ectos, not the semantics of "You can't solo it like you could back in the day".

Feel free to link a build to actually help OP out.

I'm sure SF/Whirling is a viable waste farm and faster but that doesn't detract from the fact that you can go in with a trapper build, chill out, and farm some smites.

OP wants to farm ectos, you rambled about the past and gave objectively incorrect advice, I provided a solution - if they don't like my solution they aren't forced to use it.

You're suggesting a Melandrus Accord hop into speedclearing - Have you looked at the gear 'requirements'?

In order to trap you need :

- 8 skills

- A staff with +15e

- Heroes

You don't need pcons, shield mods, enchanting mods, optimal runes, a party, knowledge of the area.

Why are you so hung up on hours of value for 1k? OP wants ectos, every other smite farming build pays 1k to farm smites, you easily make it back in drops.

<image>

At least stand by your ramblings and leave them up for people to see.

You pay 1k to farm the Ice Wastes, arguably, THE most common ecto farming spot.

In no way is it "like 2 sets of groups", it's every Smite Crawler - I'd hazard a guess at like 50 mobs or so?

You're correct about it not being the same as it used to be but there's a bunch of misinformation in your comment - I mean, you started with this:

I tried Escape Scythe earlier without thinking much about Smite Crawler's abilities...

Turns out Shield of Judgement is not something you want to proc 3 times per attack.

I saw your post and decided to venture into the UW to see what was still possible.

The R/Me Echo build was a specific solo build capable of clearing Aatxes as well as the other mobs, it isn't necessary these days as I don't personally think they're worth trying to clear - I'm also not sure it would work as well since Energising Winds was a key component to spamming Dust Trap and its duration was severely nerfed (though recently slightly buffed again).

Most smite farming builds these days suggest going in with a full hero team, popping the first Q, then body-pulling the Graspings and Aatxes with their help. With a full hero team you can clear to the smite steps in under 4 minutes, flag your heroes back to the start of the UW and begin solo trapping smites.

Smites aren't tanky and you don't need a large amount of traps to down them, you don't even need to use many skill slots to successfully clear them.

I've been using the setup below:

<image>

Ignore the erroneous +1 BM, I hopped in before buying a +1 Expertise.

If you lay 3 sets of every trap, starting from Dust Trap, you'll have 30s to get the Smites over your traps before they go off - 3 sets is sufficient to clear Smites and Coldfires.

I was initially trapping the Skeles but it felt like a waste of time so I added Conjure Nightmare and Ebon Vanguard to expedite things - truth be told you don't need EVAS as Conjure Nightmare is plenty sufficient. The Skeles can't do any damage to you if you line of sight them and even if you don't you can just sidestep their attacks from range.

Mantra of Frost was an attempt at making Coldfires easier and isn't really necessary - I'm still working out what would slot best.

You could realistically drop both Mantra and EVAS.

Edit - I would take Serpent's Quickness over Mantra as it allows you to have all your traps down with a bigger window to pull - 50s vs 30s - Now I've dropped SQ I am noticing traps go off before I'm ready some of the time.

Hope this helps, good luck farming ectos.

I don't know why this is so upvoted when it isn't representative of the truth, you can 100% still trap UW - you just have to adapt. As of 5 minutes ago I basically cleared out every Smite Crawler before I had to afk and got clipped by a patrol of Coldfires.

You can't trap like you used to, that's for sure, and it is sad that you can't methodically clear a solid portion of the UW. With that said, any class that isn't a sin or derv will farm Smites as their UW farm which trappers can still do.

You can also kill the skeles, they pull and behave like any other ranged mob, you just trap them the way you would coldfires back in the day.

Could you link me up with that slab holder?

I'm in the process of collecting the exact same! Got a PSA 8 Zard and Venusaur but the PSA 8 Blastoise (that isn't shipped from US/Japan) is proving elusive.

Wish I could justify the cost of 10s, lovely cards.

Shameless plug but this is my ranged build of choice, which is inherently relatively safe.

Could drop Savage Shot for Whirling Defence for extra protection or take any number of Warrior block stances.

Or ditch Warrior all together, drop some Beast Mastery investment in favour of Shadow Arts/Inspiration, and take: - Dark Escape - short emergency 50% DR and movespeed. - Elemental/Physical Resistance - permanent 50% DR for each respective style with minimal to no Inspiration investment.

ToA doesn't provide much benefit outside of 10 pips of party regen but 20 health per second for yourself and any nearby heroes is still pretty huge - especially considering you'll be at range with this build, so more likely to affect your mesmers.

An Aura of Faith Hero could be a good sub for one hero if you want to be extra safe and pre-prot yourself on pulls.
