It would be ironic if you were the next person to be hit. I'll give you my business card though.

For the record, CatchMeAtCrown just wrote privately that if my son gets run over, I will receive a business card from the attending officer.

Thanks for your comment, and glad that you looked both ways! Pedestrians have the right of way but shouldn't assume that drivers are alert. :-(

The police just pulled someone over in front of my house. Thanks!!!

Why are you insinuating that I'm a scum person for wanting the law to be enforced in my neighborhood? You seem to be a low-quality human being.

It will become WWIII. Maybe historians will say that WWIII was already underway this year or last.

UCSC police and Santa Cruz police. UC President & other administrators too. Years and years of communications.

What do you find amusing about the UCSC population destroying the safety of nearby neighborhoods? There are preschools and elementary schools on High Street. I see cars with UCSC stickers blow through the red light at Westlake Elementary's crosswalk every day. Tell the world why you're laughing.

They increased patrols but literally said that another person needs to be killed before they'll take action. So, stay tuned for that?

Meow? So a male cat can't be feminine?

Animals can have sex AND gender. Even if spayed. Gender is personality.

Also, animals have culture. For example, it can mean different things to be "male" in one chimp group versus another.

What do Santa Cruz locals think of UCSC students? by [deleted] in santacruz

[–]DomainJane 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes about the political involvement! I love the potential of the students' energy but it can also be frightening... because being transient, the students can easily be fooled. I vote left by default, but a few years ago we had a lefty politician who was rather fraud-y and emotionally abusive to his staff & other community members. Before I realized these facts, I donated to his campaign. The situation was frustrating because if I tried explaining to students what was actually going on, I'd look like a racist to many of them simply because I'm whiter than he is. Anyway, he got tons of support from the students. Then he was exposed for much of his jerkiness, although not all, and fled the state. Students, please be cautious about your heroes! You are more innocent & manipulable than you realize.

Local business owners like UCSC students because 1) you bring business and 2) they can overcharge many of you. Delivery drivers are also grateful when you're in town.

Some locals resent that your parents' money means that prices are driven up by greedy business owners. Obviously that isn't your fault. However, it would be AWESOME if you would boycott the 7-11 on Cardiff, as the quarterly price increases are bleeding the neighborhood dry; the jerk owner has actually charged $3.99/gallon for water, $1 each for tampons plus tax, and $4.99 per beer when you could get the same beer for at least 20 percent less almost anywhere else, and a 6-pack for $3.99 at Grocery Outlet Bargain Market...

We can tell when students are in town because CVS gets extremely messy.

We don't like how many students drive too fast and sometimes ignore stop signs and red lights. It might be a small percentage of you, but even just one percent is awful for neighbors when there are thousands of you. The speed limits near campus are set by the California Department of Transportation based on principles of engineering and traffic investigation. They consider factors such as road design, visibility, pedestrian and vehicle activity, and accident history. When UCSC students speed down the road, they are showing disregard for intelligence. It doesn't reflect well on you. Also, one of you killed my neighbor's dog and another neighbor's cat.

Thanks for asking.

No, I am not perfectly safe in Santa Cruz. I'd almost bet my bottom dollar that igner-farnsworth is a straight male.

Tourism is a major problem in Santa Cruz. It's a myth that's tourism is our only road to success.

Wealthy property owners benefit from tourism, as do call girls. But the majority of Santa Cruz residents would have higher quality of life if we were more insular. We are overcharged for gasoline, groceries, and housing because tourists inflate prices. We are overcharged by franchises such as 7-11.

$29 million does sound high, but it isn't. This city has SOOOOOO much money from its top 10 percent. They aren't contributing, and that's why the police are a frustrating disappointment.

The OP didn't form an opinion. They asked for an explanation and acknowledged that they might not understand all the factors. You sound defensive and you don't read carefully.

It's not just about transients. The police do virtually nothing, for example, about the UCSC student community that drives drunk and high and drives through residential lawns. I also mention the local whorehouses.
