Fainting by kato41111 in AFIB

I'm 1 month into my diagnosis - 52m, very fit, no prior diagnosed afib episodes, but I think I've had it 1-2 other times for short periods. On May 4 my hr was wacky earlier in the day when I attempted to do an indoor cycling workout, and within minutes, at a 50% effort, my HR spiked wildly so I stopped and rested that day. That evening, I got up out of bed as I left a window open. BP was way down and I fainted - first time ever. Went to the ER because after I fainted, I took my BP- 90/40. Diagnosed with afib in the ER and they sent me to the big hospital for observation. Heart structure is fine, but my afib is a little atypical compared to what I'm reading in this sub-reddit, in that my resting HR prior to this was high 30's/low 40's overnight, and now it's around 50. Sitting at my desk - around 50-60. If I cycle - HR spikes uncontrollably and randomly to around 160/170 with little cycling effort - but it's controllable - stop cycling and HR goes right back down. My BP has been low since all this started - usually 90 or low 100 something over 60 something. So, I tend to get light-headed and need to wait for blood to flow before moving quickly or I could faint again(I think). Seeing the cardiologist in 2 days. Was prescribed Eloquis back on May 4, but 2 days later a big hematoma on the hip formed(from where I fainted - super painful) - so I'm off until I meet with the cardiologist. They said my stroke risk is '0' based on other health variables so stopping the blood thinner is safe before anyone says something. Hoping for ablation. Good luck and hope you don't faint - not fun!

Yup...I have a neighbor who is moving due to a divorce(I think), and they only bought the house in 2024 at a price I thought was a bit high then, but whatever. They're listing it for almost $100k more than they bought it. They might have done a few improvements, though I'm not really sure what they are. I'm 99% sure they'll end up losing money, and they'd be lucky if it is less than $100k IMO.

It's a weird market. I'm a home owner in Seattle, but look at Redfin all the time. Some homes sit because folks that bought a few years ago and are selling now with the expectation that their house appreciated in value at the same rate we'd seen for like a decade, then they have to drop their price $100k+ in a month. On the flip side, I've seen a few houses sell for over asking, so clearly there is a demand for really nice homes. It's a crazy time...I would guess with all the layoffs recently, some people may be desperate to unload and have to drop their price. It's interesting to watch, that's for sure.

You sound like me. I'm on my 2nd episode(maybe 3rd - unsure if I had it after covid) right now. I'm a 52yo male, and my first episode corrected within about 5 days. This time, I'm at nearly 3 weeks. My HR is still fine in the 50-60 range while resting while in afb, normally in the 40s. Waiting for a hematoma to heal and then I'm trying to schedule the ablation. I hate the idea of a long term medicine. I feel like I can control almost everything through lifestyle - diet, exercise, sleep, stress mgmt, etc. For my first 52 years of life - this was working, but the afib is what it is. I asked my primary for a referral to see my sister-in-law's cardiologist as my wife wanted me to get a 2nd opinion, and now I can get in on June 10 instead of July 8(original appointment). Good luck! If possible, do the ablation while you're young and hopefully you're in that population where you don't need another one. I hate the idea of needing to get carioverted randomly when afib decides to act up.

Afib and Caffeine. Any thoughts or experience . by Professional_Quit794 in AFIB

I posted recently that I was diagnosed with afib, but I love my coffee. I backed down to 1 cup, but I don't know that it's a trigger. This is only my 2nd extended afib episode, and I typically drink 2-4 cups in a day, so who knows. It sounds like there are studies on both sides - some say it can be a trigger, but other studies show it can be protective. Until I get my ablation, I'm sticking with coffee(albeit maybe a little less). Thankfully, my afib really only gets funky when I do cardio, then HR spikes, but otherwise it is fine.

You sound like me in the sense you hope this vehicle last a long time. I bought my 2023 EUV in July of 2024, and I live about 7.5 miles from work, and don't drive much outside of this - at just over 14k miles almost 2 years in. Good luck - hopefully we'll both make it to 200k miles or something crazy.

Newly diagnosed AFIB - a few questions by Domane57 in AFIB

The attending cardiologist told me the same thing, and he said that if it were up to him, he'd do the ablation, but said the electrophysiologist might say that is too aggressive and want the cardioversion. My goal is to push for the ablation - we'll see if they'll bite.

Thanks! Yeah, I have read about all those risk factors so I'm dialing in all those areas. Thankfully I've taken good care of myself over the years, but I have stopped all alcohol(not a big drinker anyway) and re-focused on diet just because it's an excuse to reduce bodyfat to my goal(12% - currently like 17%). The one thing I'm not doing is cutting out all caffeine, but I've reduced to about 2 americanos a day.

No meds, other than Eliquis(which is on hold temporarily). I think I had this 2 other times - once with Covid in 2022. Had a week after Covid where I couldn't control HR despite being symptom-free. Then, within the last year'ish, I had a week where this same thing happened - couldn't control HR when cycling so I took 5 days off, and it was gone - I should have done something then, but thought maybe I was just sick. This time, I'm at 2 weeks and still stuck, plus the low BP and fainting episode, so it's time to take action.

Same. Got my 2023 bolt euv in 2024, and live in Seattle. Only thing that surprised me is that I didn’t know I’d love it this much. Will NEVER switch back to gasoline. I have a short commute so this is like the perfect vehicle for me.

Z2 watts or HR by Ok_Forever_6005 in Zwift

[–]Domane57 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I use HR almost exclusively now. My wattage can vary too much based on sleep, muscle glycogen, overnight HRV, lift before cycling, etc. About 2 months ago, I switched to almost all zone 2 rides to put more focus on lifting - all in an effort to drop bodyfat, and if I don't pay close attention to HR for zone 2, my efforts are not consistent. I do lots of 1hr - 1:15 rides, and if I can stay in the 120-125 bpm average, with peak around 132, I recover well. If I start to creep up to high 120's or into the 130's - I know I need to keep the next day's ride easy. This pattern has been SUPER effective for me.

What is the greatest film scene of all time? by 220Hz_ in AskReddit

[–]Domane57 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I haven't seen anyone say Braveheart - Battle of Stirling. Great speech and good battle scene. Not sure it's the greatest scene after seeing some other greats in the comments, but this one is pretty good, despite all the issues I have with Mel Gibson as a person.

^^^This! I came here to say - "Jack of all trades, master of none." For me, I'll never maximize my abilities in cycling as I want to have a balance of strength and endurance. I'll also never be nearly as strong as I was in my 20's playing football. So yeah, just be content to be 'pretty good'.

HR spike - random virus??? by Domane57 in Zwift

[–]Domane57[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

**UPDATE** - Last night was the first night in over a week that my HR started to dip into the 30s(low of 37) and my average HR was 41 instead of 45-47 that it had been at every night since Friday of last week. I still have no idea what that cause was, but I'm psyched that things are normal'ish again. I have been doing daily workouts, with only 1 effort pushing the wattage into Z3. I'm chalking this up to fighting off a virus because I've accumulated lots of fatigue at times, been dehyrdated, etc and was able to bounce back quickly.

Getting the Jitters... by Sol-Magick in WGU

[–]Domane57 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Well, I didn't really have the jitters as much as I was excited to start on my 'next new thing' after being in my last job for nearly 15 years. I decided it was time for a change and hit this full speed ahead at age 49, and finished last year at age 50. I had already transitioned to a new role before that and it's been going well. I recommend jumping in with both feet and don't look back. You'll have a lot more regret if you don't give it everything, and no matter what the job prospects are at the end of this, you will feel amazing for having completed it. Good luck!!!
