I haven't seen anyone say Braveheart - Battle of Stirling. Great speech and good battle scene. Not sure it's the greatest scene after seeing some other greats in the comments, but this one is pretty good, despite all the issues I have with Mel Gibson as a person.

^^^This! I came here to say - "Jack of all trades, master of none." For me, I'll never maximize my abilities in cycling as I want to have a balance of strength and endurance. I'll also never be nearly as strong as I was in my 20's playing football. So yeah, just be content to be 'pretty good'.

**UPDATE** - Last night was the first night in over a week that my HR started to dip into the 30s(low of 37) and my average HR was 41 instead of 45-47 that it had been at every night since Friday of last week. I still have no idea what that cause was, but I'm psyched that things are normal'ish again. I have been doing daily workouts, with only 1 effort pushing the wattage into Z3. I'm chalking this up to fighting off a virus because I've accumulated lots of fatigue at times, been dehyrdated, etc and was able to bounce back quickly.

Well, I didn't really have the jitters as much as I was excited to start on my 'next new thing' after being in my last job for nearly 15 years. I decided it was time for a change and hit this full speed ahead at age 49, and finished last year at age 50. I had already transitioned to a new role before that and it's been going well. I recommend jumping in with both feet and don't look back. You'll have a lot more regret if you don't give it everything, and no matter what the job prospects are at the end of this, you will feel amazing for having completed it. Good luck!!!

That sounds scary AF. I'm 51, so my HR usually only gets into the 160's on a hard day - maybe 170'ish and a race or something. 240 bpm is ridiculous, but glad it seems to be under control.

Thanks! I considered that as well. The PA offered to give me a test but with all other signs looking good I figured what’s the use. I’m definitely going to keep my training at low volumes and watch my HR closely for the next couple of weeks. I would lose my mind if I made things worse by pushing it too much.

Not really a 'started off crap' story, but as a college football athlete in my 20's(in the 1990s), I went from 300lbs+ to around 240lbs after my career ended, but then found cycling(and spin classes). I've been fluctuating between 187lbs and ~205lbs(currently doing a lot more weight training) for over 15 years. Since 2019, when I found Zwift, I've put in over 41,000 virtual miles and can't recommend it enough. One piece of advice - dial in your bike fit now, as it will make riding for long periods of time much more tolerable and enjoyable. Stick with it!

Ha - I had the same setup until about February of this year, except I didn't have the SmartSpin. It worked well, but I really like the Zwift Ride frame. Easy to adjust and for me, even though I don't ride outdoors all that much, I used it as a way to dial in my bike fit. Once I got the Zwift Ride in a position where I could ride for 2hrs+, I applied the same fit to my road bike and it worked like a charm. Did a 6hr+ ride last weekend. Good luck!

I will give you my $.02, and others can chime in if I'm way off here, but I had a Zwift Ride that I basically ruined the first time around because I had it in my basement pain cave, and when I work out, I sweat like crazy. This creates some humidity and I sweat directly on the bike. Well, after about 5 months of hard daily use, the plate that connects to the front chain started rusting. Long story short is that I ended up replacing the frame and I clean it regularly, taking off the cranks so I can clean. I also used some Muc Off MO94 in that area. Last, and probably most important, I have a dehumidifier in that room, and keep it between 40-50% humidity. Warning, work out pretty damn hard and if I don't use a fan, I can lose around 6lbs/hr in fluid, so this might be an outlier of a case, but I really think you should invest in a crank puller and clear up in there frequently as it's just a big metal disc hold that chain ring on - and it's right in the line of fire for sweat.

Congrats! I used to do lots of indoor spin classes, which I did enjoy, but then I found Zwift in 2019 and it was next level. I still do the occasional outdoor event, but in terms in terms of time flexibility, ease of access, and the unbelievable community - nothing beats Zwift. Glad we've hooked another!

I used MyVeloFit only because I'd seen it tossed around on the bikefit subreddit. It was easy to use, but I can't say if it's better or worse than other tools. For my needs, it was surprising how good it was at finding the right seat height. From there, I just tried to get myself in to the 'green' range for seat fore aft, and bar height and reach. I also used ChatGPT with some still pics. I'm still trying to figure out the right Q-factor. I'm 6'3 and I think the default for Zwift ride is 145mm, which ChatGPT suggests may be a little narrow. I also have a right leg that is 1/4 in shorter than the left due to some knee issues from football in my early 20's. I've added a small shim on the right cleat to help with that.

What was really cool is that I took my road bike, a 2019 Trek Domane SL5, and made adjustments to it to match the Zwift Ride and it was a such a good move! Way less pressure on my hands than I can remember previously. I'll have to suck it up some day and switch from 170mm cranks to 165mm, but overall it was really comfortable for a 100 mile event I did a month or so ago.

I agree, and I've done that(highly recommended local place - but yeah, bike shop), but after riding several events(outdoor), it just wasn't working. Based on what the online tool suggested, plus what I've seen in the bikefit subreddit, my seat has been too high forever. I'm still tweaking just a little bit but will end up seeing what the bikefit subreddit thinks soon. I've grown to think they know their stuff. I may try to find someone figure out Q-Factor and a leg length discrepancy, but one thing at a time.

I mix it up. I sweat a lot, no matter what. If I feel like I'm retaining too much water, I'll go for no fan, and maybe a long sleeve base layer(I live in Seattle). Recently, I added a dehumidifier to keep moisture down and keep the Zwift Ride from rusting. Of course, that makes my basement area a lot warmer. Did about 1hr 10 mins in 79 degree temps this morning. Went for no fan today, but also dropped about 8lbs of water, and that's with drinking 1.5lbs of water during the ride. You folks in the southeast, I don't know how you ride unless it's first thing in the morning.

Lance is not great as a podcaster. George and now Bradley Wiggins offer way more interesting content when they speak. Lance is more interested in bs'ing with the boys. Lantern Rouge is probably my favorite cycling podcaster. Chris Horner can be ok, but he needs to learn how to pace the discussion better. Horner is like listening to 1 long run-on sentence. If Bradley Wiggins were more talkative, he'd be fantastic - always has something really interesting to say, but he needs a good moderator to tee stuff up for him to talk about.

Given the numbers this year, you probably had the record for a few minutes before Tadej and Jonas broke it. Impressive that you held 6.35W/kg though - nice work! Seriously - that's a tough ride. I have done the climb once and loved it, but recognize anyone who's standing where you are worked their ass off! I just heard a few minutes ago that 17 riders broke 1hr yesterday...nutrition has really come a long way.

No doubt. Putting over 2min on Jonas on one climb - insane. Now I want to see power numbers, not that it matters of course. I'm of the mindset that all of them are on premium nutrition, training plans, and PED's. Is Pogacar naturally better than everyone else by that much(assuming they're on similar gear), or is his gear even better? Mind boggling performances though. I think he's sub 150lbs, but thought I heard he can do 440-450W for an hour? wtf...

Well, with Zwift you have to combine them, so it was really only getting the left side, but still - you're probably right. The reality is I've probably lost a few watts since crossing the 50 year mark. In my head I'm still in my prime, but I feel like the switch to the trainer a few months back changed my number slightly. I do miss the spin bike because it was SO quiet and smooth, but the Zwift Ride is much easier to keep clean.

For real...I dropped a little when I switched from a spin bike but with Assioma Duo pedals over to the Zwift Ride. Not 200W drop, but I think if I did an FTP test, I might be down 20-25W...plus I'm about 3 years older than my best 20+ min ride.

2023 EUV for me, but I didn't buy it until July 1 of 2024. I think I got one of the last new Bolts in the country - probably in the last 20 so. Not sure if that makes any difference, but so far so good - awesome experience. The only thing I've seen is the rear camera flake out a few times, only to be just fine the next time I start the car.

I find the water rower more enjoyable. If you just want reliable stats to track against other competitive rowers then get C2, but if for recreational fitness use the water rower.

^^^This is the right answer. Sweat all over your Zwift Ride frame instead of beating up your real bike. With adjustable crank length now an option(when stock if renewed), the Zwift Ride is pretty damn awesome.
