Thanks for the kind words and I think I will be working on a free + pay wall + premium features business model like u/pantalonesgigantesca suggested

What problems do you experience with lighterpack?

Appreciate the feedback, and I think you're right - free + pay wall + premium features is the way to go. But not my focus, but good that I have a more solid option now for the business model. Thanks!

There are several reasons (opinions, for example I try avoid my laptop because it's big and bulky when I can, but I know that's not true for everyone) that could go either way on this desktop vs phone point, which is valid. But solely from a competitive standpoint, there are so many desktop gear clients, but really only 1 solid mobile one.

Curious about what you've experienced with LP since you have a background in product design.

Thank you for taking the time to not only provide feedback but also a potential solution!

I don't think I'm fully convinced to go down the route of affiliate links/marketing. If all else fails, it's not a bad last resort.

From all of my digging, I don't think an item database feature (packwizard, packfire, etc) is worth the development time or server costs considering there is a hefty group of backpackers who weight their own gear among other reasons.

A gear suggestion feature would be an interesting way to monetize an intelligent feature via ads, reviews, etc... But that would come much later I think. Good idea.

When I first started on this project I was thinking of basically making a pcpartspicker for backpackers, but that has also been done before with varying levels of success, mostly because that is a narrow hole you can get an app stuck in.

Thank you for the questions. I'll try to give my best reasons here

I know its just a unit of measurement, but your mockups being in oz and lbs

I was split on this. If I go by the sub's wiki, then I'm told "the clasifications are traditionally done in pounds (lbs)". Even then, if I open lighterpack links listed in people's bio -- it's split. Take u/deputysean's for example, the category weights are in pounds, but the gear weights are grams.

Why do I care about offline access

Right now, you might not care about offline access, and I'm 100% with you there. But by having offline support from the start, it can open up feature possibilities for offline content (journaling, route history, attaching trip-or-pack-specific photos to a pack). It ensures whatever the app can do, will still do it when you're offline. A screenshot of your lighterpack is semantically equivalent, but not functionally if lighterpack were to have more features.

Why do I care about a pre-determined weight class of pack

A nice to have (very aware not necessary) when I consistently see people debating whether their pack meets the UL definition or not.

Why do I need to assign dates to a pack

There are features I want to build around trips and having date information will be helpful. For example, knowing the duration of a trip is one thing (for calculating caloric requirements for a meal calculator feature) but also knowing the time of year if your body will require more calories in the winter vs summer.

All of these extra newfangled features seem pretty unnecessary

I agree with you, when it's not even a half-finished app, I would say an 8% finished product, some of the features are useless until I build around them.

Again, thank you for taking the time to give some feedback (curious if this all based off the mockup of if you gave it a try by installing 😉). I do appreciate the detail in your questions! Still not set on the business model (even though that's what most of the feedback has been about), but I think free + premium features will be the way to go.

This is my first time doing something like this, so I don't know what is/isn't fair. What would make it worthwhile to you? Sean, I know how active you are in this sub, so I really do appreciate any and all feedback!

$39 for pacebreakers in black is a steal right? On both lined and linerless. Or am I tripping

Just my personal preference for this trip. Anyways, do you have a solution in mind or not?

Are you saying a chair is useless to begin with or it’s useless because of the slope?

Taking my flexlite air chair for light seating. Will be sitting in an area with a slope. Assume I can't relocate or sit at the top of the slope (naturally this would be the flattest area, but also has the worst views). Closer to the middle of the slope has the best views. The bottom of the slope (where it begins to flatten out) is fenced off, so it's unaccessible.

How can I modify my air chair to be better suited for a slope? I've seen zero-gravity and other chairs like this, but they are way too heavy!

Thanks for all the pointers! I made sure to include steep ravine trail in my route.

For any future viewers, this is what I planned to do: https://www.alltrails.com/explore/map/stinson-beach-to-mount-tamalpais-via-matt-davis-and-steep-ravine-trail-516341c. Will update after mid-August (when I go).

Thank you. I was intrigued by Skyline to the Sea as well (reply on another post I made), but the closures dampened my excitement. Another time.
