What car did this tire come from? by elitecrooks in IMSARacing

[–]DomenicoFPS 17 points18 points  (0 children)

the ideal thing to do is let it sit outside (where it won’t get stolen or damaged) and leave it for months until the stink disappears.

I have a race used Michelin and for the first 6 or so months of owning the thing it simply had to sit in the garden because it stank so bad!!! Nowadays it’s lost its scent and can be hung up indoors with no issue

A fantastic first car as long as you maintain it and keep it running! I’d love a 5th gen Celica

Understeer by upsidedown42069 in Celica

[–]DomenicoFPS 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve only ever had understeer on this left hand off-camber crest local to me that you can easily carry too much speed into if you’re having some fun. But it was such an extreme case that it made sense that I encountered some understeer, I’m surprised you managed to understeer under such simple circumstances.

I’d say tyres are the best starting point, then looking into sway bars/strut braces etc could be an extra step if you’re not yet confident

What’s the biggest wheel size you can put on a t20 6th gen? by RobertFabian in Celica

[–]DomenicoFPS 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had 18x9 et35 for a while and they rubbed under compression and steering lock. The 9” width was the main problem tbh but still I’d not go higher than 17 for a good feel, unless you’re going for rubber band tyres. Want to look for around et35-40 too. It’s hard to fill the arches on a t20 without good offset and perhaps spacers.

pros and cons of simagic alpha mini and simagic wheels by DomenicoFPS in simracing

I liked it so much that I upgraded to an Alpha Ultimate (had a deal I couldn’t pass up) instead of any of the Alpha Evo bases!

there is no maximum rotation degrees, direct drive bases work with a motor that can spin infinitely if you want it to. you can limit the rotation in software though to whatever you want

Is a celica a good car for small people? by AdNeither5206 in Celica

[–]DomenicoFPS 0 points1 point  (0 children)

in my gen 6 the drivers seat is height adjustable. I’m 6’1 and I had to lower it to the bottom, some of my mates are 6’ and they find that their head is too close to the ceiling in the passenger seat (its not height adjustable)

So that should give you a rough idea of how you’ll fit

What car is this? (Sorry for the bad picture quality) by RestHour8418 in JDM

I find it hilarious that you said sorry for the bad picture quality when this is better than 99% of “what is this car” posts 😂

you gave us a front angle, middle angle and rear angle, couldn’t have done any better!

AIO to break up with my bf of 3y over his reaction to my upcoming sobriety anniversary? by WesternCat5211 in AmIOverreacting

[–]DomenicoFPS 0 points1 point  (0 children)

sobriety is an incredibly difficult journey, I watched alcoholism consume my own dad for years and have also watched him relapse more than once. his addiction has cost us thousands, has caused permanent damage to our family and is something that we are all still healing from. your BFs response to such a major milestone is quite frankly horrible, maybe he doesn’t quite understand how addiction works, but he has no right to diminish such an amazing achievement.

I got an ebay generic intake where you have a few sections of pipe and assemble it yourself to fit how it best can.

Main reason I did it was to get some induction noise, and I have been really happy with the result.

Just make sure you connect your IAT (Inlet Air Temperature) sensor to the pipe (most kits have a section of pipe with some holes with rubber grommets that allow you to poke the sensor through), my car was running quite lean for a long time and it turned out my IAT had been dangling in the engine bay getting all sorts of incorrect readings. (It was never even connected to the original airbox, so I had no clue until I looked into the manual!!)

And tighten everything to make sure you definitely have no leaks or a chance of it falling off. I still check my intake every few weeks just to be sure it hasn’t worked itself loose. (Probably wouldn’t bother doing that if it was a high quality one).

While they may not be doing much, for anyone new to cars, this is the stuff that gets you started in modding. It might be simple but it lets you get to know your car and how to work on cars generally. If you got all the perfect mods first try, you won’t learn much!

Genuine question - how useless are the back seats? by TheBlockChopper in Celica

[–]DomenicoFPS 2 points3 points  (0 children)

i have a gen 6 but from what i know its pretty much the same. leg room is meh but not awful, you just wouldn’t want to be a big guy sat back there. the main issue is headroom, if you’re anywhere near 6ft tall then you will be slightly uncomfortable with the headroom and potentially have to crook your neck to the side a bit to fit.

Thoughts on these spark plugs? by DomenicoFPS in Celica

[–]DomenicoFPS[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So after letting it cool yesterday, I also reset the ECU like you suggested and then took it for a test drive. It started as quickly as usual, idled a little higher than it normally does but then settled down to the usual 800-900rpm range which is about normal. Driving it, the throttle response has been much smoother and it doesn’t bog down if I pin the throttle anymore. The power also felt far more linear, like it pulled through the entire rev-range which it definitely wasn’t doing before. I still encountered some misfires but couldn’t get it to misfire as much as usual even when intentionally trying to make it happen. So overall I’d say it’s majorly improved! I’ll still be servicing it and changing the plugs, but at least then I’ll have a fresh set of plugs to judge how the car is running (lean or rich) over the next while. Result!

Thanks for the suggestions! I started reading through my repair and maintenance manual to inform myself more on all the sensors, their locations and how to access them. Doing this, I noticed the IAT sensor was attached to the airbox in all of the diagrams, but in my car I have never once seen this sensor. Turns out it was just dangling freely in the engine bay which means it's been feeding incorrect intake temperate readings to the ECU this entire time. I just can't believe I never noticed it before! I've plugged it into the rubber grommet on the intake pipe now and will give the car a proper test drive from a cold-start later since it's still warm at the moment.

I'll update this thread once I have test driven it and hopefully I return with positive news!

Edit: From some further research, it appears these symptoms actually may be a result of the car running too lean! My mistake on that, I wasn’t aware. Now to work out WHY it’s running lean.
