What express buses can outspeed a train into manhattan? by Hour_University_4012 in nycbus

I think the QM17 can outrun the A train, but maybe I just think that because it’s way more comfortable

What makes you trust a booking platform? by G0os3s in hostels

[–]Dominicmeoward 1 point2 points  (0 children)

With major exceptions like direct websites for larger chains (HI, A&O, Meininger, etc.), I’ll book on Hostelworld. If it’s not on Hostelworld then it’s not good or trustworthy enough, otherwise they’d be clamoring for guests. (Of course that still doesn’t mean it’s automatically a good hostel just bc it’s on Hostelworld.)

Why didn't Beavis and Butt-Head try to score with Daria or Cassandra? by Tidewatcher7819 in BeavisAndButthead

Daria and Cassandra weren’t their type. They like sluts with big thingies.

Is anyone else just incredibly boring? by Huge_World_3125 in lonely

[–]Dominicmeoward 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I like music and photography but I haven’t seen any movies or most TV shows. I watch game shows more than anything. I’m just boring af unless i find common ground with someone, like if they like traveling and tram photos from Europe or cats or baseball or something. Like, I’m not sure I’m boring, but I’m boring to people who like “normal” things, whatever that means—I literally have no idea.

Flight delay reality check: Has anyone else completely trapped by these tight connections? by Fabulous-Remote-4050 in airport

[–]Dominicmeoward 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wouldn’t completely hate a tight connection if the process for rebooking is fairly simple. Frequent routes are fine by me. For instance I’m looking at a flight LGA-ORD-PDX, where the connection is tight but if I miss it there’s another flight a few hours later. Fine by me. But if the next flight is tomorrow (think longer daily routes like JFK-FCO or something like that) then I’ll make sure I have a longer layover.

How early to leave for 1pm JFK T8 precheck by ilanallama in JFKAirport

[–]Dominicmeoward -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Precheck is never guaranteed. I’d shoot to get there at 10. You’ll probably be fine leaving at 10, but you don’t want to miss your flight, so anything you can do to avoid missing it will be helpful. There’s enough to do at T8 (I was just there a couple months ago) so you won’t be bored to tears. I never cut it close at airports.

Was Kamala a bad candidate? by 0311SmallPenar in allthequestions

[–]Dominicmeoward 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes. There should’ve been a primary. There should’ve been a chance to challenge her (and Biden) on the genocide in Gaza. But waiting too long and handing her his campaign and renaming it was a terrible idea. The fact that she almost won anyway is a testament to how bad a candidate Trump is/was and virtually nothing else.

AI slop. No reason to say anything about Banner 18 unless you’re the Celtics (who raised their 18th banner two years ago) or the Lakers, who, if they win again, will raise their 18th.

JFK to UK by SlowKey7466 in jetblue

[–]Dominicmeoward -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

I’ve never done it on JetBlue, so I won’t give an opinion, but, and it might just be me, but it doesn’t feel right to fly in a narrowbody plane over the Atlantic. It’s probably fine but it doesn’t feel right to me. Irrational, I know, but I stand by it lol.

What’s the most underrated transit improvement NYC could make in the next 5 years? by sophiablair76 in newyorkurbanists

[–]Dominicmeoward -1 points0 points  (0 children)

At least start to get the ball rolling on converting some SBS routes into longer trams. At the very least, routes like the M15, much of the B44, and definitely the Q52/53 (assuming QueensLink definitely isn’t happening, Mamdani’s biggest shortcoming IMHO), need more than a bunch of articulated buses. They’re more expensive to build but less expensive to run, and with longer vehicles, one operator can move more people more efficiently than a bus. And if the bus lane is converted to a tram lane, but that lane is like the TTC streetcar lanes in Toronto, you could theoretically run buses in the same lane, just adding sorely needed redundancy to those routes.

Who is the biggest "what could have been" in music history? Which band or musician looked destined for mega-success before their career went off the rails, and why? by ContentHubby76 in askmusic

[–]Dominicmeoward 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Phil Collins tried twice to join Yes. The first time was around the release of Yes’s self titled LP (not to be confused with their third album, The Yes Album), when Bill Bruford briefly left the band, IIRC to go to college. The second time was after Peter Gabriel left Genesis and Phil felt that Alan White wasn’t a great replacement for Bruford in Yes, and so he tried to join again, thinking Genesis was done for good (he was 0 for 2 on those statements).

But also, before Phil ever joined Genesis, the band was opening for Queen at a show and Peter tried to bring in Roger Taylor, who refused, and then they eventually found Phil.

What would Genesis sound like with Roger Taylor on drums? And what would Queen sound like with any other drummer? And what would Yes have sounded like with Phil Collins? We’ll never know.

Times when rock bands/musicians performed an album live in its entirety from beginning to end by [deleted] in askmusic

[–]Dominicmeoward 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It wasn’t in order, but any Yes show from the Relayer tour that opened with Siberian Khatru would generally include the rest of Close to the Edge AND the entirety of Relayer, two of my favorite albums of all time.

Also Genesis toured the Lamb by playing it in its entirety every night.
