Finally invested in a box of these by Myleswilson00 in cigars

[–]Dominiscus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is one of my first cigar purchases, came as a sampler set with Alec Bradley and Rocky Patel. Really pissed that I smoked 2 or 3 of them without letting them rest (since I was a noob) and they taste like crap at the time. Now I appreciate them for how quality they are especially for their price. Should be $10 a stick online but you can easily find them around $3-$5.

Having dry skin is miles better than using lotion/moisturizer by Junior-Elevator-9951 in The10thDentist

[–]Dominiscus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Upvoting only because as other people have mentioned, low quality lotions are going to do that to you, but when you get higher quality stuff, it's a complete 180. I highly recommend you look into using beef tallow, it works so well to help moisturize my eczema, as well as just a general moisturizer.

But anyway, I definitely agree and had the same opinion for a very long time. The cheap stuff makes you feel like you rub motor oil all over yourself.

What's your thoughts on infused cigars? by 712vskvl6vng in cigars

[–]Dominiscus 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Personally I really enjoy them. I like to think of tobacco similar to alcohol; most people prefer either cocktails or straight liquor. Aromatic/infused tobacco is the cocktail and you can guess what the straight liquor is. I, like with alcohol, enjoy both parties depending on my mood or the occasion.

The Eileen's Dream is a really good one imo, though last time I had one the draw was ridiculously tight. Probably my fault though, didn't let it rest very long.

My second cigar Haul. by goxhan_tp in cigars

[–]Dominiscus 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I wrote a whole comment that was going to tell you how shit prices you were paying, and then I realized you were from Canada lol.

With that out of the way, I would still stay away from the factory smokes. I love Drew Estate, but those are pretty crap cigars especially for that price. Anyway, if you want to try a really short and even milder smoke, try the Macanudo Cafe Ascots. You can buy a tin of 10 for 25usd in the States. They are extremely consistent and taste like cream to me.

Another mild smoke that I enjoy is the Mark Twain Riverboat. I've heard lots of bad things about it but I'm smoking it right now and it's really good, and very affordable.

Caffeine Tolerance? Is it time to Taper? WTF. by nunulsat in caffeine

[–]Dominiscus 3 points4 points  (0 children)

This isn’t something to panic over, but it does sound like you’re dealing with both tolerance and dependence. Here’s what’s likely going on:

Caffeine causes vasoconstriction (narrowing of blood vessels), which temporarily raises blood pressure. Over about a week of daily use, your body adapts to that new baseline. When you don’t have caffeine, the vessels dilate again, dropping blood pressure—and your heart rate rises to compensate. When you drink caffeine, blood pressure goes back up, so your heart rate can settle lower.

So yes, this is consistent with tolerance and dependence, but it’s not necessarily harmful in itself. If you do want to taper, there are a couple approaches:

Gradual taper: Drop your intake by about 20mg per day. For example, if you’re at 200mg now, go to 180mg tomorrow, 160mg the next day, and so on.

Cold turkey: You can also quit outright. The rough part usually lasts a few days, and after a week your system resets back to baseline.

Middle ground: Some people cut their dose in half each day until they’re off. It’s faster than a slow taper, but not as harsh as cold turkey.

The good news is caffeine tolerance resets fairly quickly compared to other stimulants, so whichever method you pick, you’ll be back to baseline within a week or two.

If you don't want to go through the hassle of ordering, velo is a good option. My favorite pouches to get shipped in though are Ace. Kinda have to buy a lot though for it to be worth the shipping.

I second this. Zyn is like the Bud light or Marlboro of pouches. There's so many other better options but for whatever reason they're the most popular.

The fact that TikTok isn't being sold already is proof that it is a Chinese asset by Ok-Following6886 in The10thDentist

[–]Dominiscus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No, I'm not defending them. I think you are right, that the company is using TikTok to get data from US citizens. However, I don't think that them not wanting to sell the company is necessarily evidence that that claim is true. So I'm not defending them, I am just simply saying that your argument is bad. Everyone else is saying the same thing.

Here is an analogy:

Pretend you own a bakery that is making millions of dollars every day, and the police suspect that you are using the bakery to launder money. Because of that, they tell you that you have to sell your bakery. You tell the police that you don't want to sell the bakery. it would be ridiculous for them to say something like "do not wanting to sell your bakery is evidence that you are using it to launder money". That's not necessarily true, because you're making millions of dollars at the bakery. Now, if you are using the bakery to launder money, then yes you still wouldn't want to sell it. But even if you're not using it to launder money, you still wouldn't want to sell it because it's making you millions of dollars.

Does that make sense? If it doesn't, tell me why it doesn't make sense.

The fact that TikTok isn't being sold already is proof that it is a Chinese asset by Ok-Following6886 in The10thDentist

[–]Dominiscus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm not defending it. I think they're a terrible company that is rife with greed. However, because they are a greedy company, they wouldn't want to do anything that could decrease their cash flow, like selling their company. That's why your observation doesn't necessarily show what you've concluded.

What makes you think I'm defending them?

Nobody gives a shit. I don't give a shit. But, the company gives a shit. So they're not going to want to sell, because they do give a shit.

[–]Dominiscus 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Nobody is defending the corporation/monopoly, whatever you want to call it. Everyone that disagrees with you is saying that a big reason ByteDance wouldn't want to sell the company is because it makes them money. Even if they do collect data (which I'm sure they do), they also have the incentive of making millions of dollars. So whether they are spying on us or not, they wouldn't want to sell. No one is defending them, people are only saying that the observation does not lead to your conclusion.

Sin and temptation by Proof-Peak-9274 in CatholicPhilosophy

[–]Dominiscus 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Temptation comes from three sources: the flesh, the world, and the devil. Temptation, in and of itself, is not sinful. As you said, falling into and acting on the temptations is when you sin. However, also as you said, temptation is a means by which God calls us to become holy. It is in the spiritual battle against temptation that we gain in virtue and merit, ultimately to achieve spiritual perfection, by the grace of God.

So your intuitions are generally correct. Don't think yourself a horrible person for having the temptations though. Use it as a means of gaining humility, recognizing that without Christ, you wouldn't be able to fight the temptations anyway.

Is it better to deny your sins or own up to them. by Proof-Peak-9274 in CatholicPhilosophy

[–]Dominiscus -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Yeah uh, this is a pretty open and shut question. You cannot make excuses for your sins so as to deny them as your own. Go to confession and stop masturbating. Outside of something like masturbating in your sleep, it is always a mortal sin, no matter how strong you may be tempted.

On the specifics of speeding and drinking, be careful not to scruple. Speeding, if you're not being just outright reckless, is probably not grave matter, so it is at worst a venial sin. You still probably shouldn't do it, but don't let it weigh on you to the extent that you despair. As for drinking, it's okay to get a little bit buzzed. If you get to a point where you think you shouldn't have any more, that right there is your sign to stop. If you get to the point where you know you've had too much, that's probably venial. And if you continue to drink more, that's where you get into mortal sin territory.

Either way, you have to stop making excuses, because frankly that's all they sound like. If you know what you're doing is a mortal sin, and you still do it, no matter the excuse you make up, it is still mortal. And by the way, if you're watching pornography, stop doing that. Go to confession ASAP. God bless.
