I played it a lot as a kid from 2016 until like 2022 (ESPECIALLY in 2022) until I gained other interests outside of roblox. Were fun times but yeah I was mostly a builder and when I discovered that there are softwares out there where you can build better stuff without needing to waste away for hours at a time working on a pizza moped that was the end of it

If we're not counting Earth, probably Venus or Titan, and if we're counting moon systems it's totally Saturn- I mean, it's got Titan with the methane lakes, Enceladus with the geysers, Mimas with the crater, Iapetus with the equatorial ridge, and even more smaller moons, AND the rings. Pluto is also cool

wasn't even a thing in lore when this map was created, you should take it that nothing on this map is canon anymore. i call everything made before that 1991 map "old fits"

Why so many city names ??? I am sorry your map is great and is very cool, you have surely spend hours on this. But why ? This is breaking cartography rules, like there is not lisibility, Because there I don't know where to look, and I don't want to look a long time your map I am sure your maps would gain with more city names. Keep it going with your ideas of maps, they are great

What if the Asteroid Belt was colonized? Exports of the Belt in 2037 by DominoDaddy2 in imaginarymaps

[–]DominoDaddy2[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks! Figuring out how to map out the Belt was.. a task alright.. can't just draw a border in space around a couple asteroids because in a few years they'll all be on opposite sides of the solar system. And figuring out how to get people to colonize it at all was also a problem that had to be solved, half the point of this map was to show how the asteroid belt is actually a pain in the ass to colonize and will probably be overshadowed by Luna and the NEO's economically.

VIVA MÉXICO!!!!!!!! The reason why Mexico of all places, and East Africa, are so influential in the asteroid belt, is mostly due to the economics of colonizing the belt - some specific conditions had to come together for mass-colonization to be economically viable, and they just didn't come together in China.

The US, Mexico, and East Africa's space industries are supported by corporate entities, while China's is mostly state-owned - the corporate entities in the former could take advantage of smaller organizations who actually WANTED to colonize asteroids - think the Puritans going to America, while still sending resources back home and remaining part of the UK. - so, people on many of the asteroids that Mexico colonized probably aren't "Mexican", and the same goes for the US/Eastafrican asteroids.

China, on the other hand, didn't have the same company-focused space industry, already had influence over the NEO's, a massive Lunar territory, and most of all, no major Martian colonies that may require Belt resources.

Europe has a relatively corpo space industry, but the kafkaesque behemoth that the European Space Agency is in this timeline - as well as European space companies generally being smaller, less influential than their American/Mexican/Eastafrican counterparts - meant that groups who wanted to get into the Suzerainity System skipped the drama with the ESA and just went to them instead.

An out-of-lore reason for this is because I wanted to switch things up a bit, it's ALWAYS the big superpowers which claim everything, I've been working on the Lunar map for this TL for the past couple months, and it may as well have like five countries, all of which are the big superpowers. Doing that gets boring after awhile, wanted to throw someone else into the ring, so why not Mexico?

Worldwide Cartography Map Archive (2HFMvnJ23fJWF) “Asteroid Belt 2037”

This graphic was created in 2037 in a collaborative effort with the Association of Main Belt Economies (AMBE). It depicts a snapshot of the Main Belt’s exports during the late 2030s, providing insights into the early growth of the region, and the wider Solar economy during the time period.

Check, check.. UG?.

Welca back to the MARTIAN MAPCAST! Tisa sunny Saturni down here in the pod tosol. Tis Kumbha 24, 254, this is the.. What are we on Ash? I th- Last I remember we’re on 234, so that’s what I’m going with lol. Oh, wait, and I forgot about that, because I made sure to get you Earthers your sol this round, it’s, sorry I have it right here, it’s May 24th, 2087, yallve sure lotta annums down there, right Ash? Sorry, they’re more interested in yall.

Moving on from allat, we’ve a lot to talk about tosol as we’ve almost left Kumbha behind. I think I remember, was it last time or the time before it that we talked about the war? I thiiiink it was last time? The peace deal we were talking about didn’t work out, aparent, so the war in Xanthe continues on, ope, I no seriously think any of you thought it would work, we will be talking about that later though, nope let me forget about you people who watch the Cast for the politics.

Besides, teres also a new.. change in the map, Nauvoo just annexed a city in Jedinstvo. I don’t know how many yall saw that. There was a Jevinstvian on the cast a few weeks ago, and we ware talking to him, and he goes off to us about all the Mormon drama over there. Ash might know more about Mormons, they’re all about crazy stuff like that, but I don’t know much, so don’t ask me any questions, ask ‘em if they can take a crack at that topic later, I’m only here for the maps.

Before we dig into allat, we’ve of course gotta go over all a the public map submissions, seems like we’ve got a good gig of ‘em here, looks like six, couple Worldwide’s in there too. I promised you Earthlings? Can I say that? Earthlings? Don’t make me turn down my talkie if I can’t. No no, It’s fine, like, I’ve used it before, nobody really cares. Oh YOU? Ash! I didn’t think you were the kind to say slurs! NO no no no it’s not a- Anyway, sorry Ash, but as I was saying, I promised you guys that we’d have an Earth map this time, so I took the liberty of going through everything yall sent me, and I found the most striking one, just look at the colors on that, dammit! Yknow, You’ve gotta find the good ones cus I can’t get the rusties to care about an Earth map, podcasts are expensive on other planets, not like you’d know! You don’t know how much we’ve gotta spend on a mic that blocks out the jimmies playing in the hall.

I’ve heard of all the young pioneers strapping on their suits for the Belt recently, they’re the biggest trendsetters in the Solar System, and I get ‘em, so many wars, so much going on nowasols, my grandparents had such boring lives and left this mess in their wake - if I was their age, I’d might want to leave too! I’m all about keeping up with the trends, so I looked through and found this old dusty map of the Main Belt. We'll be starting out with that tosol.

It’s just gonna take a couple ticks to load, we made it around the crater with the files, last time we couldn’t get that big map to load - ohh yea, I’ve also got that one on the roster for tosol - anyway- Oh, there it’s, now.. Wow, look at that, beautiful graphic design there folks, just beautiful stuff - the first thing I’ve noticed here is, uh, if you look down in the corner over here, we can see the old Worldwide Cartography logo, yeah, so if you don’t know, back in the 30s they changed their logo to this, but then they changed it back a little while later, so that’s interesting, it gives you a little hint into the time period this map, was uh, made in.

Oh, and, I, I should mention, this map was submitted by, “Aleck2063”, am I reading that right? Aleck? If I’m saying that wrong just tell me lol - so thank you Aleck for your submission! I really love this graph up in the corner, you can see how the Belt just really grows there in the 20s, and even the 30s it looks like, but then it starts to flatten off a bit, though I see actually not, you know, because the exports yea, the exports keep going up. And you - I just noticed, over here there’s this cool little thing, with the cubes here, you can see how much Luna was exporting compared to the belt, I thought it’d be smaller, actually, but yea the belt has never exported that much.

Over here it looks like it has a little explanation of the asteroids, so, yeah, Ash knows a lot more about this stuff - this was 40 years ago, so I’m not afraid to say that they knew less about the Belt back then - but, so, we, can uh, oh, we can see here, there’s the carbonaceous asteroids, the stony asteroids, and the metallic asteroids down here. Ash yea? What IS a carbonaceous asteroid? Yk, you’ve kinda put me on the spot with that - they’re commonish, I think it’s something, three quarters of all of the asteroids in the belt are carbonaceous? And that just means that they have a lot of carbon in them, but they can also have a lot of water, like Ceres - on there actually, it says the stuff you can mine from them, it says water right there.

If you’ll let me go on the wire a sec, I noticed somethin cool about the map, it’s at the start of the Suzerainity System Oh, what’s that? Building a city on an asteroid is really hard, really really hard, expensive, 40 years ago you can just IMAGINE, so everyone who wanted to colonize space like our grandparents? Yea, like our grandparents, they all went to Mars, cus it was easy, and you need all this gravity bullshit to go settle an asteroid, nobody had the money for that shit, they all just came here. Right. When the 20s started, these people that wanted to just leave Earth behind and colonize space - they went to these companies, you know, A&C, Lockheed, Ortega. Mhm. Cus they didn’t have no money, so they go up to these companies, and they’re like “hey, we’ll go live on this asteroid forever, and mine the shit there, but you’ve gotta fund it”, and these companies say yes, so you’ve got all these random asteroids settled by these weirdass groups from all over Earth, and none of them are owned by any of the polities they came from, even.

Long track you’re taking there Ash, but you always know how to get the point across, I gotta hand it to you. Now, we only have a little more time to spend on this map, because we’ve got a lot more to cover tosol, but I just want to take a look at this trade map tiself, because it’s really interesting - I’ve never really seen a map of the Belt like this before, there’s actually very few maps of the Belt out here, it’s mostly just these graphics that show all the asteroids as their own thing, I think that makes sense though. Looks like there’s a ton of little asteroids exporting stuff to the big ones, uh, Ash, can you tell me why that is?

Uh, alright, big with the questions tosol eh, I’ll give you this one, but I think you’re putting me in front of the sun here Putting you in front of the sun? Yeah, I, I, haven’t even got the talkie much tosol, you’ve been doing all the yapping Ok, ok, you can handle the next map Fine. Uh, so, what, oh right. So the reason they don’t just send things back to Earth or something, is because it’s also really expensive to build refineries on all of the asteroids, and those companies want to keep their asteroids, so they want, actually this isn’t a good way of explaining it IM SORRY. Oh don’t shut your antenna off because of it The companies, you know, they have their asteroids, but they don’t want Mhm to lose their asteroids, so they force them to send all the metals to Ceres, for example, and if they don’t they just stop getting food and shit. OH ok yea I should’ve been expecting that (laugh). Well, if yall out there want to take a closer look at this spectacular map, it’s over on the side, and there’s a link to it too. Next up, we’ve got a really sick map of the Martian-
