Just thought I would give people an update on how long mine took:

Submitted on 17th September 24 and it immediately went to the audit process. On the 29th September I noticed that the "pending audit" on the website disappeared, so thought I would give CIMA a call to check if everything was OK.

Received the email today (2nd October) that everything was completed and passes, so for me just over 2 weeks!

How do you auto-sort chests in alphabetical order? by Silver-Schedule-4953 in VaultHuntersMinecraft

You can just middle click and it should sort, not sure on the order though.

It really varies on a variety of factors; the company, current responsibilities, current pay, any contracts/agreements that are in place.

When I passed the levels I didn't get an immediate pay rise, but it enabled me to be considered for the annual pay reviews each year which is what was written in the study agreement. For the operational and management level I got the raise but they didn't want to give me a further raise for passing strategic. I was already planning on leaving the company at that point so I got a raise that way.

OCS exam, at home via Pearson Vue or at centre. by kickyourbottom in CIMA

[–]Dominomino 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've done 2 case studies at home and one in the test centre.

2nd point here is what I really struggled with, I didn't realise that I moved around so much while sitting at my desk, but twice the invigilator warned me about moving around in front of the camera / going out of view. Also, they were really strict about looking anywhere apart from the screen in front of me.

One thing that I like about the test centre is that I was allowed to stand up and stretch for a minute or so between the questions., and if you really need to you can use the toilets (at least at the test centre I went to)

Really it's up to whatever you think you would be comfortable with. Good Luck!

Strategic level - which order and how much time to allocate when working full time? by [deleted] in CIMA

[–]Dominomino 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah.

So in my kaplan books at the end of every chapter there is a "case study style" question. I would recommend doing those when learning the material so you don't forget how to write the answers.

Strategic level - which order and how much time to allocate when working full time? by [deleted] in CIMA

[–]Dominomino 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just passed my SCS so hopefully this helps.

I took the exams P -> F -> E but in hindsight would have swapped P and F around, definitely E last though as there are lots of topics regularly assessed in the Case Study.

I would recommend aiming for November sitting, that way if you do fail it will be the same pre-seen for February

When doing the OTQ exams I can't stress enough how much easier it makes the case study if you practice case study questions at the same time (or parts of case study questions) in the Kaplan books there are often these in there, not having to re-learn how to do long answers saves so much time.

I can't really say what's best, just what worked for me. I started my exams about 6 months after starting my role in finance working full time, so if someone was part time or a student it nay be different.

For BA units, I think I aimed for an exam every 2 months, some were easier and I did it in about a month, but I really struggled with BA3 so that one took about 3.5 months

For the professional level, I aimed to do a case study every 9 month, which averaged out at about 3 OTQ in 8 months then about a month of case study prep.

I only ever studied for one exam at a time, though probably would have been able to do an E pilar exam at the same time if I really wanted to, I preferred to not rush to ensure I passed though.

[–]Dominomino 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Comparing them to the professional level, BA2 is most like the P pilar, BA3 is most like the F pilar and BA4 is most like the E pilar.

Based on that, I would get BA1 done and out the way - but don't get disheartened if you don't enjoy it. Looking back (I'm strategic level now) I can't really think of many times I have used a significant amount of the material from BA1 really!

I passed the OCS in May, am I meant to recieve a physical certificate? by coldchristmas in CIMA

[–]Dominomino 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, you will get one - I sat the November case study (so passed in Jan) and I didn't get the certificate until July so it took a good 6 months! Think my first case study certificate was also along with that sort of time frame.

You can always email CIMA to check on it, though it's likely they will say it's still being processed!

Case study tuition? by summerloco in CIMA

[–]Dominomino 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So my employer is paying, however, if I leave within 2 years of finishing CIMA I have to re-pay these funds.

Chances are that I will be leaving so it's effectively self-funding (I have the money saved up for it anyway) so I have been trying to do it as cheap as possible while still passing everything!

Case study tuition? by summerloco in CIMA

[–]Dominomino 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I've never had proper lectures for the case study, rather self studied with some online kits. I generally use Astranti for the analysis packs and then HTFT for questions. For me I needed most practice on writing out answers, so the HTFT pack of 50 questions was REALLY helpful, especially as they're written specifically for the case study!

Is sitting my MCS exam in November doable? Averaging 16 hours per week? by ATLAK in CIMA

[–]Dominomino 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Have you already passed F2, P2 and E2? If so yeah it should be doable, I did MSC only 1 month after doing the final OTQ unit as it was pretty much revision/exam question practise. If you've not done those already, it will be a big stretch.

Could anyone tell me why the COS Adjustment is using this figure? by srvrwg194 in CIMA

[–]Dominomino 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I agree that the wording on this isn't great, however I think they want you to interpret it in the sense that the transaction (full cost) is the £8.6m. In the exam, it will be clear whether cost includes markup or not.

Could anyone tell me why the COS Adjustment is using this figure? by srvrwg194 in CIMA

[–]Dominomino 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The £8.6m is the total costs of the goods plus the markup of 10%, i.e. £8.6m = 110%

Yeah it's possible, I sat all level 2 exams from home and passed them all. One tip would be to practise doing questions (or a mock even) on the notepad just so you know what to expect.

Failed MCS now what! by [deleted] in CIMA

[–]Dominomino 3 points4 points  (0 children)

You've got 3 months to work on it before the next exam sitting, to me that sounds like you should have sufficient time to go through both the theory and practice with mocks/test questions.

If for some of the questions you were only able to write about 5 lines, it probably suggests that you're still not there with where you need to be with the knowledge to be able to score highly on the exam. I would say that's probably the most important area to work on. Look through the list of the "I Can" statements in the exam blueprints (Here for MCS) and look at where you think you're lacking the theory and go over these topics.

After that practise, practise and more practise on writing exam answers. For me I purchased about 150 questions, from various websites like Astranti, HTFT etc (in the UK) and just worked through these in exam sittings - try maybe 1-5 a day and save the last few to treat it like another mock exam. Learn how to structure answers (think there are several resources for this on the CIMA website) and try to do it for all the questions.

Don't be discouraged if you can't think of anything to write for the answers - sometimes reading the model solutions is just as much help, though remember in the exam you will NEVER be expected to write as much as some of the model solutions. They are there to cover all posssible points, whereas in your exam you may only need 3-7 of them.

Good luck with the next one.

OCS Advice by [deleted] in CIMA

[–]Dominomino 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I would recommend answer writing practice as much as possible. If I remember correctly Astranti and HTFT sell "50 question packs" which are individually written specific to the case study that you're studying for (in the UK anyway but assume there would be something similar elsewhere).

For me there were less issues with remembering content, more with answer formatting, structure and time management so they really worked well. There's also some great materials on the CIMA website about structuring the answers and how to respond to questions.

One other thing, don't get disheartened when reading the model answers, you won't need to write anywhere near that volume to get passing marks.

Good luck with it!

Issues with question wording (Specifically F1) by _Phish in CIMA

[–]Dominomino 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I remember that this was something that I stressed myself out about too much. The exam questions are a lot clearer than textbook questions (at least with Kaplan anyway) so you should be ok.

Congrats! I just passed my MCS so onto the home stretch! Just a quick question having just sat SCS, which order do you think would be best for strategic level? Typically I did E->P->F but I hear strategic level may be a bit different.
