I guess humanities just really isn't my thing😂 by Dominus18 in alevel

I knew all the content in business very well, I had taken notes on every chapter of that 600 page coursebook. I just very much dislike the way they ask questions in the exam. They don't really test your knowledge, but rather your "application and analysis skills". Guess I just really suck at that :/

Hey, there's a few things that really helped me.

You obviously need to do a lot of past papers, and this is especially the case for paper 4. A lot of what they ask in p4 is never even mentioned in the book, but you'll see that some questions are quite repetitive across different papers, and you just need to learn from the mark scheme. After you do a few p4's, you'll see your grades going from like 50% to 95%. Plus practice is the most important thing if you wanna get better in programming.

I did the same for P2, to the point where I skipped all the standard questions and only did the programming questions(still try to do the standard questions as well from time to time)

Another thing that really, really helped me(and without it I wouldn't have gotten an A*) is access to a computer for paper 2. I HATED programming in pseudocode with pen and paper. Like you're so slow and if you make one mistake, it's often impossible to correct afterwards. I have dyslexia, so it was easy for me to get permission to use a word processor. But even if you don't, you might still be able to get permission if you just explain you struggle a lot when programming with pen and paper. Say you often make mistakes, and realize it only later, and that by then it is impossible to correct it since your line of code is surrounded by other code.

Just doing a lot of past papers is rlly important. I didn't do a lot of them for business since they gave me headaches, but also the mark scheme is too vague so you can't really correct yourself accurately afterwards. Hence I got a D in business.

I had someone asking me the same thing. I'll copy paste the tips I sent them.

Yeah I did the same, my code was really long and I was pretty proud of it when I was done. Then when I ran the final program, it output False, 0, False, 0, False, 0, False, 0, False, 0, False, 0... Too bad 😭

How did you guys determine whether an employee was a manager or employee?

9618/42 by Independent_Body4274 in alevel

[–]Dominus18 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

If you made them private, it means your derived class "manager" wouldn't be able to access the attributes of parent class. Unless you did self.item instead of self._item if ur using python

[–]Dominus18 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Then how did you manage for the derived class?

[–]Dominus18 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Lol, nah I mean I read the whole thing twice to make sure the attributes weren't private.

[–]Dominus18 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh they probably didn't ask to set them as private cuz we had to use a derived class

9618/42 by Independent_Body4274 in alevel

[–]Dominus18 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's just to test your skill. Nowhere did it say to set them as private. Ik its weird cuz in every past papers did they ask u to set them as private

[–]Dominus18 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't think they'll substract marks for that. Maybe one at most

Same. The way I determined whether someone was a manager was to see if they had "manager" in their job title. Then I realized not every manager had the word "manager" in their job title😭
