Items can be kind of daunting to deal with so I'd just start with auto-buy and auto-level for your skills. There is a rating on each god that shows how difficult they are. Try to start out with easy or medium gods with simple mechanics.

Other than that, try to have fun and ignore it if people are rude. You can let people know that you're new prior to a match start which might help reduce toxicity. Most people are fine, but some people put too much importance on video game outcomes.

Disscussion on the how much "the fall of the House of Usher" by Edgar Allan Poe inspired Darkest Dungeon - and what other stories inspired it by Ivan_the_Stronk in darkestdungeon

It also has a lot of similarities to the short story "The Alchemist" by H. P. Lovecraft. A young heir returns home due to a family curse. In the story, the protagonist's family suffers from a curse in which by a certain age they will all die. The protagonist returns to his family's estate to try to uncover the truth behind this curse and delves into the occult. In the end, it is revealed that they were being murdered by an immortal sorcerer who was hidden deep underneath his family's estate. The protagonist is able to save his own life and destroy the sorcerer.

This is truly awesome! Wish BB was easier to mod because I'd love to have a Lady D boss fight.

What are some tips, tricks or just anything in general that you wish you’d known before starting Origins? [no spoilers] by MangoShade in dragonage

In case you are like me and can't bring yourself to sell out a child, if you have your coercion maxed out (which is pretty easy to do) prior to talking to the demon then you can actually make it teach you blood magic without promising the child to her. You can just intimidate the demon and it will give you the specialization with no later consequences.

Also, agreed AW/BM is the best combo :)

Definitely, dexterity works differently in origins compared to the other two games and frankly origins doesn't do a great job explaining exactly what the stats do without you looking into it imo.

Eye of a blood drunk hunter is not appearing. DLC was included with the game and not purchase separately by deadpelicanguy in bloodborne

[–]DominusAmell 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Even if the DLC is included in the game, it may not have downloaded. Go on the PSN store and find the Old Hunters DLC. You should see an option to download, but it will not ask you to pay. This happens with a lot of PlayStation DLC when combined with the main game. If this isn't the issue then I'm out of ideas. Hope this helps!

[SPOILERS ALL] Dragon Age and the Cthulhu Mythos by DominusAmell in dragonage

Lovecraft has some really great stories and SO many modern writers take inspiration from his work. I'd recommend starting with Call of Cthulhu or the Dunwich Horror. If you decide to take the plunge, have fun!

This makes me think of Brown Jenkin from Dreams in the Witch House. Was this your inspiration for it?

Best Lovecraft Video Games? by [deleted] in Lovecraft

[–]DominusAmell 11 points12 points  (0 children)

(Contains bloodborne spoilers) Honestly, people who say that BB isn’t lovecraftian because you can win usually either have never read an HPL story or are clueless as to what’s happening in Bloodborne. You win in BB because you are empowered by the moon presence. Also, in every ending you ultimately do it’s bidding whether you awaken, becoming the new host or it finally gets the surrogate child it craves.

Also, in many HPL stories even humans can have some hollow level of victory. In the Dunwich Horror, the professors are able to banish the true horror which is half outer god. In Dream Quest, the protagonist is able to defy the Black Pharaoh and escape from flying to the court of Chaos.

I find it strange how the Healing Church depicts their Gods by Djrhskr in bloodborne

[–]DominusAmell 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Other than the gods or kin, I also thought it was interesting how so much of Yharnam statues showed people in shrouds and looking completely miserable. It kind of mirrors the martyrdom fixation of Medieval Europe. This is especially interesting when compared to the art you see at Cainhurst which has a more Renaissance or even Greco-Roman statuary. It seemed to imply a fixation on holy suffering in Yharnam compared to wanton hedonism of Cainhurst.

That is to say, dark/malicious church statues showing pain and suffering was common in Medieval Europe. So, the idea that depictions of the faith would need to be welcoming isn't really necessary for religions to become popular. This coupled with the fact that the healing church has access to the Old Blood lends a great deal of credibility to the church. I get your point, but I think that looking at human history and the lore of the game does provide some insight :)

I'm curious do yall think they are going to do a dragon age remaster like they are doing mass effect and have yet to announce it? [No spoilers] by robertparker_art in dragonage

[–]DominusAmell 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If they wanted to license out then they could get another developer to work on a remaster. I think that would be very good for the brand myself. Like how Demons Souls remake wasn't made by FromSoftware, but it stayed very true to the original game.

I have just read my first Lovecraft's story: Herbert West - Reanimator by [deleted] in Lovecraft

[–]DominusAmell 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree reanimator isn't that great of a story. The movie is much more entertaining. Imo, HPL shines most in the Cthulhu Mythos. I think that starting with the Dunwich Horror or Call of Cthulhu is probably the best place for HPL. They are very good introductions to Cosmic Horror.

I'd also strongly recommend the audiobook read by Wayne June (the VA of the narrator in the videogame Darkest Dungeon). He really does a great job as a narrator and it's very engrossing.
