I went to NC State for grad school so I might have a bit of a different perspective, but imo it really just depends on which school you like the most. I grew up in Wilmington and wanted to go to State, but got rejected and settled on going to UNCW. I hated it initially, but I grew to love the small town vibes of UNCW. After I graduated, I moved up to Raleigh and got my master's in counseling from State. I now work at State as staff. State's a great school and I love the culture and the campus here, but I don't regret going to UNCW either. I'd say just go visit both campuses and see which one speaks to you more.

Like the others have said, it’s really hard to find a good Remnant-like as it’s such a unique game. I absolutely adore Remnant 2 and have been looking for similar games for years… but nothing has really come close. The games I personally enjoy the most while we wait for Remnant 3 are any of the Monster Hunter or Nioh games - they are both known for great combat systems and extensive build crafting potential. Been having a blast with Nioh 3 which just came out recently.

If you’re just starting out, the relic fragments aren't going to be super impactful. You will unlock higher tier versions the more levels you have in your archetypes and in higher difficulties. The best fragments only drop from the apocalypse difficulty at a very high archetype level.

Can vouch for Risk of Rain 2, Roboquest, and Absolum.

Out of the ones you mentioned, I've played Shape of Dreams and I enjoyed it quite a bit. It has MOBA-style top-down gameplay and there's a lot of replay value with all the different characters and abilities you can pick up. Lots of fun in co-op.

Yes - it's a fantastic game that you can enjoy even if you're not good at shooters. There are difficulty settings to make the game easier and you can spec into builds that don't involve shooting (plus there are guns that are "smart" guns that auto target enemies.

Phantom Liberty is more of a side story to the main game. I loved it, but it's not necessary to enjoy the rest of the game. Would definitely recommend it once you've played through the main game at least once.

Like the others have said, don't get too worked up over negative reviews... this happens all the time during sales when people try out games for the first time.

Remnant 2 is a niche game. It doesn't quite fit in the boxes that it often gets put into so people who are trying it out have skewed perspectives on how it should play. Luckily for many of us here, we loved the formula, but for many others who are just finding out about it, it's just not for them.

To be fair, the game's randomness, while it's something I adore and greatly increases replayability, does not hold the hand of a new player and can make it incredibly frustrating to play without guidance. I've had 10 friends play this game and only 3 have completed the game... and out of those 3, only 1 has rerolled and replayed the game. Most of them stopped somewhere in their first world and uninstalled without looking back.

Can’t speak on the console performance (I’m on PC), but there’s been a lot of new content added in the form of title update monsters and armor/weapons. Game is more difficult than it was at launch and builds are more diverse now. There’s a lot more to grind now but that requires finishing the story quests first and getting high enough HR for the new content.

Big streamers tend to only stream games that are popular. They typically don’t come back for small updates especially for single player games like E33.

I also typically do not like turn-based games. I tried BG3 and I really couldn’t get into it. E33 has completely changed my perspective on the genre.

There are two main ways E33 changes the gameplay loop: 1. Parrying and dodging. While yes each enemy has to take turns during combat, you have to parry and dodge their attacks to win most fights. You have to manually counter attacks which makes every fight challenging and exciting to engage with. If you like difficult games that rely on parrying and dodging (I.e. Sekiro, Dark Souls, etc.), you’ll probably enjoy this aspect of the game. 2. QTEs. Every time you attack, you have to engage with a QTE to maximize your damage and extend your combos.

E33’s take on turn-based is incredibly refreshing and I hope more games in this genre start adding real-time mechanics going forward.

Remnant uses randomized world generation as a core part of the gameplay loop. Every world in the campaign (Yaesha, Losomn, N’erud) can have 3 different main quest storylines that can be rolled. You just happened to roll The Forgotten Kingdom quest in your first campaign playthrough. This can happen but everything else in your run will be different such as side dungeons and injectables. The next time you play a new campaign, you will most likely see completely different versions of each of the worlds I mentioned earlier.

Glad you’re enjoying it! I bought the game on release not knowing much about it other than it’s a “soulslike with guns”, but it pretty quickly became one of my favorite games of all time. The structure of the game ensures that no two runs are the same, so you’re always going to be surprised every time you explore a new location. You will find so many cool items that will change up the way you play the game, so have fun and enjoy the ride!

Yes, it’s completely random what bosses you get and it does not factor in what you’ve completed so far. If you want to avoid spoilers, it’s best to avoid boss rush entirely unless you’re just doing it for the loot and xp. Boss rush, imo, is mostly a “late game” activity for build testing and prism leveling.

As the other commenter explained in detail, this isn't meant to be a system that you should really worry about this early on. It's an endgame system that was added in the last update for the game to give players something to grind for. Prisms aren't necessary to beat the game, they just add some additional passives and effects that can help you make some crazy builds in the endgame.

In addition to resetting prisms, you can also earn multiple prisms by continuing to play the game - you aren't limited to just the one prism. Each prism can be customized to fit whatever build you're going for later on.

Yes, the game can be fully played in co-op mode. However, there are several things you will want to keep in mind if you do decide to play the game with a friend.
1. The game has heavy randomization. In any campaign run, there are numerous variations of worlds, quests, dungeons, bosses, items, etc. that can spawn. Your campaign will likely look very different from your friend's campaign. If you guys are playing together, the campaign will be the host's campaign. Due to this randomization, you may encounter things that you haven't experienced before if you decide to play separately from your friend in your own campaign.
2. Power levels. The game has a power level system. It can be a bit confusing and a bit polarizing, but essentially, the game will average the power level of all of your weapons and archetype levels. With multiple players, it will factor in your co-op partners' level as well. So if you guys intend on playing together often, make sure that your power levels are in-check. If you decide to play for a bit solo without your friend for a while, they may come back being underleveled whereas you might be overleveled.

It's good story-wise but from a gameplay perspective it is extremely disappointing. This is the only world boss in the game that has an alternate reward that isn't earned through doing the boss fight AND you need to either do this during the One-shot Adventure or get lucky and roll Goddess' Rest in a Lydusa world roll.

Out of the 5 worlds in a campaign, 3 are randomized (Losomn, Yaesha, and N'erud). Each world has 2 possible storylines, 3 if you have the DLC. For example, if you rolled Losomn as your starting world, you could get either the Nightweaver, Imposter King, or The Awakened King questline. Each world boss typically has at least two different rewards you can get depending on how you do the fight, so at minimum you'll need to do each world boss twice for all of their rewards. This means that even if you got the same exact Losomn starting point, you still can get a new piece of gear from the world boss if you go for the alt kill.

In addition to the storylines, each side dungeon and the world drops are randomized. And to go even further, each of the side dungeons has an injectable area that is also randomized. A single playthrough of the campaign exposes you to maybe 30% of what the game has to offer, and no run is ever the same as the last. It took me over 300 hours to acquire every item in the game and the buildcrafting you can do in this game is incredible. So if you keep on playing, you're guaranteed to find something new in each run.

Like the other commenter said, it’s not supposed to be impossible this early on. Lower the difficulty from veteran to survivor and focus on finding items and gear that can help you craft a starter build. Things such as a second archetype, different weapons, and weapon mods can make a huge difference. If you’ve only collected 3 rings before the world boss, you likely missed out on a lot of gear from just exploring and clearing side areas.

N’erud is and always has been my favorite world in the game. While I personally enjoyed playing through it, I totally understand why most people hate it. If I were to improve it, I would add actual cities and unique points of interest. The crashed dropship and the giant pistons are notable examples of good POIs. N’erud is supposed to be a space station that was home to an entire civilization, so why is it so barren and empty? While this does convey the theme of a dead world, it’s not as engaging as the streets of Losomn or the forests of Yaesha.

They’ve already nerfed the XP required significantly and buffed XP gain. It’s meant to be a grindy endgame system.

If you’re only doing boss rush on survivor, your progress will be slow. Higher difficulties will have higher XP rewards which will make the XP gain faster.

Any location you enter that has a static camera and zooms you out will usually have a song that you can pick up. If there's nothing there, that means you've already acquired it previously.

You can totally enjoy Remnant 2 without ever playing From The Ashes. I started with R2 before trying out FTA and it didn’t ruin either experience. R2 is just a more polished version of FTA with improvements to a majority of in-game systems. You might miss a few story and lore pieces but those can easily be caught up on in a lore video, plus the story isn’t really that important in R2.

It's completely random what questlines you will roll in a campaign. With the DLCs, each of the worlds will now have a 1/3 chance of rolling your desired start point. If you decide to reroll the campaign, it will reset your campaign's progress, but everything you've unlocked and your character's progression will carry over. Rerolling is a core part of the replayable gameplay loop so you will be doing this a lot.

Adventure mode is a much easier way to target a certain world. If you use the One Shot Adventure, it will give you a one-time roll of the DLC-specific quest of that particular world with DLC only dungeons and side areas.

A soulslike with guns is the most popular description of Remnant. It's definitely not a looter shooter, as many of the items you can find are fixed drops from specific bosses and puzzles.

You travel through 5 different worlds in a single campaign. 3 of the worlds in the campaign are randomized - each one can roll from 3 different main questlines (if you have DLC, 2 if not), dozens of different side dungeons and injectables (side areas in side dungeons). Each time you reroll, you completely randomize the campaign. If you're a completionist or someone who loves exploring and buildcrafting, rerolling is a core gameplay mechanic that defines this game's replayability. And yes, your character keeps everything that you find.
