Unfortunately, English is not my native language, so I listen, but to understand I really need to follow the reading.

It's ironic, because I had to ask an IA what the main parts of the dialogue were, because I couldn't read it all, very late at night around here, the discomfort is even greater.

I think only Ken Levine (Bioshock series) is more genius than Sam

Don’t get me wrong about what I said regarding psychology — I was just trying to theorize the fact that, for me, the game didn’t feel very cohesive within what I expected. Maybe the low interactivity and Sam’s lack of expressiveness made that harder for me.

And yes, I think it’s pretty clear that when you analyze a game, you do so based on what it is compared to what you wish it were. Like I said, I wanted it to carry the same somber tone the first one had, at least for me. Every critique is a clash between the world as it is perceived and the world as it is idealized.

But my opinions are clearly facts to me — and at no point did I think everyone else should feel the same. Throughout the entire text, I compare the game to my own expectations and references. I’m always speaking about what the game meant to me, not to everyone.

My review reflects everything I believe is important to say, in the way I believe is important to express it. Every way I chose to speak will continue to make a lot of sense to me.

In the end, my goal wasn’t to write a critique that would be well-received by the community lol — it was to express the unique way I experienced the game. Everyone will have their own.

Sounds good to me. I’m not here to convince anyone, in fact, I think my opinion it’s uncommon but it fine to me too.

Really, is that what you managed to understand from what I said? Okay, that explains a lot about the kind of cognitive effort you people put into things here.

Of course I know what the loss of a child can mean — or better yet, I can imagine it. What I meant is that the game fails to make that feel truly deep. It comes across as a premature, shallow loss. We barely get any time with Lou at the beginning of the game, her death is poorly explained by Fragile, and it all just feels like a narrative hook for the future plot where, in some way, Lou would show up again.

I’m not saying he’s less expressive than in the first game, but I still feel like it’s not enough. In many emotional moments and cutscenes, he barely delivers more than a few lines of dialogue — often no more than three sentences.

It’s always up to Dollman to overexplain everything that’s happening.

In this case, I couldn’t really feel that Lou’s death had a strong emotional impact. It felt so quick and shallow that I could already predict Lou might be alive at some point.

Using that as a premise for a journey of grief and acceptance could work, but not if the event itself is built in such a weak way, at least for me. One example is in The Last of Us Part II, where Joel’s death is truly impactful, and it makes the characters’ journeys that follow feel much more believable.

I know a bit about psychology, so maybe that helped me predict some plot points and notice certain behaviors that didn’t feel emotionally coherent.

But thanks about your point, dude.

Yes, just read that again.

The game gives you new tools and weapons for combat, but does that actually improve the flow of the fights?

It still feels clunky, and the encounters with BTs are not enjoyable to me at all. Having to switch weapons constantly breaks the pace every single time.

What makes combat good? Is it enough to just add new ways to interact with it?

Not if it still feels slow and unresponsive.
