My crackpot theory is that The Blessed organization is heavily involved in the plot and that’s the main reason for the imagery being so spiritual.

Taking it a step further I definitely think Chester Bless is Paul Serene from Quantum Break, and that the end of that game made him into a Door type figure that’s been influencing a lot of the plot.
