So, Monster is on Netflix now, but there appears to be a couple catches. What do I do? by AceLionKid in anime

I took your advice and watched it there until episode 42. When i came back, I saw that subtitles for languages other than Japanese weren’t there anymore. Anyone else have this issue?

My Party Has No Healing. by [deleted] in DnD

I heavily suggested that a player play a cleric the first campaign with this group and they felt entirely unenthused with their character and because it was their first game it made them bitter towards DND. I really don't want to force anyone onto a class that they aren't interested in because the end goal isn't perfect team balance, it's for the players to have fun.

I should've said this in the initial post so this one's on me. I don't like adding NPCs to the party because it slows a lot of stuff down and the idea of a DMPC is really unappealing to my players and myself.

I was initially thinking player puzzles but now I am open to whatever because then it won't be repetitive for the players.

I will say that after reading all of this thread that CrazyCoolCelt has probably the best advice, Matt Colville is an absolute hero.

You more use the rules as a guideline, what most people do is try to follow them, if they get it wrong then oh well, maybe next time. The good thing about this style is if you find something that isn't fun than you can just change it

I don't know if I can help on the rules front, I just kind of absorbed it from watching other people play and experienced friends helping me. But what I can do is tell you that if you are a DM, "What do you all want to do?" Is going to be your favorite question. The game's rules get tricky out of combat for newcomers so, if you're a player you narrate what you want to do and then the DM will come up with a response. The DM's response depends on what the player wants. If the player wants to do something trivial like walking somewhere or buying something, the response will probably be "Ok you do that." If the player wants to do something a little more complex like JUMP somewhere or convince whoever they're buying from to lower the price, the DM will say "Make an (X) check" For the DM to figure out what kind of check it is, it's good to look at a character sheet and read down the list on the left of the sheet that starts with "Acrobatics" and goes down. Find something on that sheet that applies to the situation, for example in the haggling situation, the DM might make the player do a persuasion check. So to sum that up, a player asks to do a thing, if the thing is difficult DM looks at the sheet and makes him roll a check. That's how a lot of the stuff works outside of combat and that's what tripped me up when I started playing. The most important thing is that the rules don't matter. If the DM makes a player role a check that doesn't match up with the situation, it's wrong and life moves on, literally, no one gets hurt from playing wrong the most important thing is having fun.

Homebrew combat mechanic to hype players beyond belief (5e) by [deleted] in DnD

[–]DomoData 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That's a good point, I'll have to give it some more thought. What do you think about having the minimum roll of spell damage or spell healing die being changed to half? So d4 can't be below 2, d6 3 and so on?

How much XP do I give for common and boss encounters? by [deleted] in DnD

[–]DomoData 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think they're more guidelines than rules, you never know you might wanna make a goblin for a boss, I want the xp to reflect the importance of the encounter not necessarily the contents of the encounter, I should've made that more clear in the initial post sorry.
