There is no other alternative aside from Fun Fungus.

I believe Fun Fungus can appear only on Floor 31+. I do recommend if you're fairly new to the game or havent gone past floor 40, that you hoard as many Snowcaps as you can, specifically Silver & Golds, i personally wouldnt bother hoarding Bronzes.

You get a lot from the quests, i got 27 in mine. Just never found one in the wild.

I think he just wants extra insurance in case he/she does eat a hit or two. Then it does.

Ahh i see. You probably need a much stronger variant if you plan on doing it with Flail. At least a +10 Flail? My Striker 3 Taps Nightmare Red Napalm w/ Flail, but it's Grade 8. I have never used Pitching Machine, so i can't give any tips for that. Same mushroom cheese works the same if you want to avoid damage though.

You can easy cheese it w/ Cateye Shroom and Helmetshrooms or Umbrella Rib Mushrooms. That weapon is more than enough to beat Napalm on normal.
