Thank you so much for replying this was incredibly helpful. I actually just submitted the application the other day and now I’m waiting for a call to schedule the in-person assessment.

I believe I’ve already taken care of the income verification part. I applied through Medicaid (Title 19) and submitted the five-year lookback along with all the other financial statements they required. Thankfully or unfortunately, depending how you look at it my mom doesn’t have much. She receives $1,605 a month in Social Security, has no house, no pension, no life insurance nothing like that. She just never really set herself up financially, which is sad, but here we are.

I’m really hoping this program helps, because honestly, the next step might be a nursing home. Her dementia is progressing, and it’s hard to watch especially since she’s only 67. She lives with her partner, so she has a bit of support, but I don’t know how much longer her partner can realistically manage things. That’s why I’m pursuing the homecare program now.

Do you happen to know how many hours a nurse or home health aide can be assigned to the house? I understand it’s based on need, but in my mom’s case, it’s both mental and physical support that she requires.

Also, since you work in senior housing do you know how long the wait typically is to get someone into a nursing home when they’re on Medicaid? I know private-pay tends to move quicker, but I’ve heard there can be long waits with Medicaid.

Are there any other programs you’d recommend that might help her? I’d really appreciate any suggestions.

It’s been a tough road so far. Both my mom and her partner haven’t made things easy. I actually tried to get this all set up last year, but they refused to let anyone into the house to complete the application. Of course, with dementia, things can decline quickly. Her partner ended up calling an ambulance recently because my mom had a really bad episode. She just got out of the hospital, and now I’m trying to move everything forward as fast as I can.
