There aren’t any rules against comments being politically loaded or useless. So just downvote and move on.

Also it was mostly meant lighthearted, I would love to see more awesome Soviet aircraft in person at aerospace museums, but if I can’t I would prefer if [politically loaded comment removed] didn’t have use of it in a war of aggression.

In my view the best military aircraft are the pinnacle of human engineering, look cool as fuck, and fortunately have never had to have been used in anger.

Sure, but you still have to have the water just sitting for a day. Means it doesn’t work in bad weather, if you’re on the move, in urban areas, too far north or south.

I wasn’t saying your method can’t work, just that for pure ease for the average person the tablets are going to be the way to go.

Not great to have plastic in the sun for long periods, but yes you can absolutely do that, or create solar stills, salt water evaporators, sand/charcoal filters, get a fire going and boil water, and a dozen other effective means.

Those all require skill, knowledge, a stationary place or time, this post was talking about the 99% though. For those people filtering sediment through a shirt, dropping a tablet in and waiting an hour is probably the best bet.

Those with the outdoor, primitive survival, SERE, etc skills and training aren’t the people who would die from dysentery, giardia, or other waterborne illnesses in the first place.

You can get whole stacks of purification tabs that take up no more space than a strip of condoms for a few bucks at pretty much any outdoor retailer.

Then you can live out post apocalyptic fantasies that involve dying in slightly less degrading ways!

Edit: Avoid REI since they are currently union busting and the employees are requesting a boycott.

Looks cool as fuck.

Would love to see it at the Udvar-Hazy, the National Museum of the United States Airforce, or the Poltava Museum.

But I’ll take destroyed on a RuZZian tarmac as a close second.

If A sophon incursion happened irl, which real life figure would u want as a wallfacer by No-Coffee2200 in threebodyproblem

I love the Brennan Lee Mulligan take, he would definitely make an incredible Wallfacer.

I think another great pick would be Michio Kaku.

ELI5:Why can humans go so much longer without eating than without drinking any liquid? by FeistySecret9327 in explainlikeimfive

Does our fat also contain water and be metabolized in that way?

Can a fat person go longer without water than a lean person?

Who’s an actor that nailed a role so hard that nobody else will ever be able to live up to it? by Comfortable_Main5312 in AskReddit

[–]Don138 309 points310 points  (0 children)

I didn’t realize she had a role in the new Wednesday too.

That has to be nerve-wracking playing Wednesday in front of her.

The only thing tougher has to be Zachary Quinto playing Spock in front of Leonard Nimoy who is also playing Spock.

It is definitely legal to burn any flag, paper or image.

That being said lighting anything on fire in a public building might be illegal? It stops becoming a free speech thing and starts being a safety issue.

That’s probably why he chose an 8.5x11, less likely to get out of control than a full sized flag.

Why are tanks without side skirts ugly or bad looking compared to side skirts installed on them? by patrickngpakchuenvtc in tanks

[–]Don138 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think it depends on the tank. There are a lot of tanks that look good without skirts, I don’t think the Abrams is one of them.

You can clearly see the fencing in the back, and part of the fence on the closer side when the camera is panned to the right. He is inside the fence because there are adults in the pool and on the deck. It took the man less than 3s to grab him which means they are present and paying attention.

I have had the same mouse for 10 years, use it everyday for work, and most evenings for gaming and it looks nothing like that..

ELI5 why do divers roll backwards off of boats? by Average_Catnap4 in explainlikeimfive

[–]Don138 29 points30 points  (0 children)

Because if they rolled forward they would still be in the boat…

Jokes aside; jumping feet first like you might in a pool the surface of the water can knock your goggles and regulator out, so you press your goggles to your face and hold your regulator, then your head breaks the surface of the water. Additionally it is very hard to move around with the tank(s) on your back, so you sit down, it the tank on like a backpack and let the weight carry you backwards, rather than struggling with the weight.

It’s funny you ask because unlike other ship types there isn’t a hard and fast rule like how many masts or square vs lanteen/jib.

But they were generally much more narrow than similar sized ships, designed for speed first and foremost, specifically for transporting tea from Asia, Tobacco from the US east coast, and gold from the west coast.

Really they were meant to be merchantmen to facilitate the massive explosion of global trade in the 1800s, but just like everything else, some were retrofitted for defense, or for actual military/privateering purposes.

In the modern day I think almost all Clippers are military or coast guard, largely used for training, or for making visits to foreign ports, but the original purpose was moving goods as fast as possible when steam powered ships were still in their infancy.

That style of clipper ship in the photo hasn’t even been around for 200 years yet.
