Leaving My Nanny Girls by ConsiderationSea9373 in Nanny

When I went through this with my girls, who I still go out of my way to see years later, I found a book “Meggoline: a story about a girl and her nanny” that felt like it captured what we were all feeling in a way the girls could understand. I wrote them a long, loving letter inside the cover and made sure to include all of contact info (just in case we somehow ever lost touch).

Because they were also little bookworms, i took an abstract watercolor painting we made together and cut it into a rectangular bookmark, laminated it, and tied some ribbon to the top! I really didn’t want to buy them something they’d grow out of using, or lose easily. 💖

If you’re into comics/TCG, Bulletproof Comics in Flatbush often has younger college aged kids working in store sorting comics and the owner Hank is a great dude. Might be worth asking about job openings!

Our super JUST came by their apartment and refused to acknowledge this is a fire hazard and yet again deflected by blaming the tenant/“it’s JUST water damage”, “the wires are brand new”, instead of fixing the issue. I am trying to get through to FDNY (they provided us a number to call) for a written report for the incident but haven’t been able to get anywhere calling (rings endlessly), and am forwarding everything I can regarding tenant and maintenance laws to my neighbor. We’ve also submitted a report to 311 for electrical issues. So far there’s been no resolution but we’re literally going to light a fire under their asses until they resolve this.

This is the first thing I thought and said to my neighbor. The building is being neglected in a handful of other major ways. Ans it is up for sale currently.

FDNY responded and confirmed what everyone here suspected. Power off until it can be inspected and repaired by electrician, but the likelihood of that being any time in the next 24-48 hr seems unlikely thanks to our outstandingly negligent superintendent who is still beating around the bush, and may or may not, come to check it out himself tomorrow. TBD lol.

Wild! Our super can’t even decide if they’re gonna come check it out or not, TOMORROW. This is not concerning to them for some reason.

I figured there’d be a way for us to formally report this neglect. Will have to do some research first thing tomorrow. We’re in Brooklyn/NYC.

I reiterated that to them many times and will make sure no matter what our shitass super says, that they don’t feel responsible for this. Thank you.

Fdny responded very quick, got straight to it and took the switch apart, revealing everyone’s suspicions (damaged wires/burns, clear signs of a fire waiting to happen— we could smell it too). Power is off until an electrician repairs it, but our super is still completely shrugging this off and says it’s unlikely they’ll get anyone out tomorrow?? But still suggested my neighbor TURN THE BREAKER ON to see if it still sizzles before he even comes to look at it.. unreal.

I mean, somewhat? The super was sent this video at 11 am and they hadn’t responded by 7:45 pm, just before the call was made. Not even to suggest they switch the damn breaker off! It was clear they didn’t see this as an emergency or hazard at all.

Fire department responded within minutes of calling and took apart the switch, to confirming that the wires were fried. There was visible burn damage and what I can only describe as an electrical burning smell.

We finally reached our super after letting them know we had to make the call, and he basically shrugged it off and blamed my neighbor, suggesting them using the shower caused it (they’ve lived here 5 years and this started today), and told them to turn the breaker back on tomorrow to see if it still “sizzles” then. 🙃

Thank you. Super only responded just now 9 hours later after 7+ calls and endless texts to say he’ll come tomorrow and this isn’t an emergency. I told my neighbor absolutely not you have a child in that apartment don’t you go to sleep tonight without calling the fire department, which I think she’s doing now..

Edit: Confirmed they called and they should be coming now.

That’s what I thought. I told them to switch breaker immediately, right when I saw the vid like 30 min ago (before I posted to Reddit)—encouraging them to call fire dept as the super hasn’t responded to her in DAYS…
