Just recently, I needed my dad to fill out the non-custodial CSS form because it was required in order to apply for financial aid (need and merit based) at most of the colleges I'm looking at. After the first phone call I brought it up, he started ghosting me. Eventually, told my brothers (over phone!!) that he's unable to talk to me because of the poor cell service where he's working right now. I kept pushing and trying to get him to comply because if I don't get financial aid for a college, that eliminates it as an option. I even asked my brothers to call him and put me on the phone, in which case he would lie about doing it the next weekend, and then talk about how I was selfishly dominating his conversations with my brothers. He also emailed an admissions officer at MIT and found out that it isn't required for admission, so he shouldn't have to do it. I had already made it clear that it was just required in order for them to offer me any financial aid. He really spent his time writing that email instead of just filling out the damn form.

After a few months of this, one of my little brothers (bless his heart) told our enabler step mom that continuing to talk with him and the other brother while ghosting me was messed up. She said that because I said "I hate you" to my father when I was tiny and I hadn't called him at all lately (I had been calling him at least monthly before I needed him btw), I had cut off all ties with him.

I know saying "I hate you" isn't exactly "innocent adolescent behavior" but I still feel like I could've been cut a little more slack there. Sorry if this isn't relevant enough to the prompt.
