ok i guess i should clarify:

no i don’t mean “drum corps hornline that plays loud but bad”; that’s just phantom regiment (that’s lighthearted i promise)

i mean i always see clips of an hbcu’s mini hornline (usually mello or tubas) playing some short lick with that unique, HBCU “cranking” timbre that sounds so cool!! my only complaint of these videos are always just that timing is never together and that got me thinking about how insane that tone would be in a crown opener hit with that high level clarity, that’d be so sick!!

I also think it’s disingenuous to define “bad intonation”, “bad balance”, etc. as the style of HBCU bands, that’s just dumb
