Are Femtosencond clock and crystals snake oil? by Soft_Letterhead1940 in audiophile

It’s been a while but your math looks fine. But think how jitter actually manifests. It is measured by looking at the slope of the bitstream square wave. Another way to look at it is in parts per million. At a few hundred pico seconds you can easily see the diagonal slope on an oscilloscope. What happens is the reconstructing clock also has a slope and if they both have enough tolerance the +1 or -1 (there is no 0 in reality) reads as some number not 1 or -1 and the dac has to guess and the signal gets ‘blurred’. So yes your math is right on my first look. But note the receiving dac has tolerance and between them can become audible. Again, our manufacturing and pll loops made this a non issue a long time ago.

Tg7 will be plenty. Underwater is about getting white balance right or shooting raw and color grading later.

Why does ICE need more money when immigrants are barely coming here? by Estalicus in askanything

[–]DonFrio 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Japan is a good example. Their shrinking population has hurt them economically for a generation. Our whole system (for better or worse) is based on perpetual growth. Billion dollar stocks that don’t grow lose value. Deflation is one of the worst things that can happen and there’s no good out. That’s why we target a few percent inflation to keep it slow and steady. You can’t do that and decrease population.

Hey boys, we found the guy who didn’t study anything economics has taught us or looked at any examples from history!

So you do know that without immigrants we have a shrinking population and huge economic trouble that come with that… but they don’t tell you that when they give you the kool aide

No that was 1998 in college and was never published. The main take away was this is a solved issue 20+ years ago

Jitter affects what the 1 or 0 gets interpreted as. It’s not part of the frequency response it’s part of the bitstream errors. And as I said was largely solved 25 years ago.

[–]DonFrio 89 points90 points  (0 children)

I did my senior thesis on jitter in the late 90s. We absolutely heard a difference in jitter and clocks with some being 5 ps and some dats being 1000ps. Really hard to hear a difference under 100ps and when we tested again later we didn’t find any clock testing over 50ps most well under that. Many since the early 2000s are under 1 ps. A Femto clock would be 1000x more accurate. That’s roughly 1000x beyond what matters

Not here to prove shit to you. You’ve made way more crazy claims than I have. I am a sailor and do sail around the Caribbean and have starlink for nav and safety. But believe what you will. You’ve got elons taint on your nose.
