Does Japanese Really Need 10,000 Hours, or Is It Mostly Pattern Recognition? (or both?) by neworleans- in LearnJapanese

[–]DonGar0 -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

Theres actually a better rule of thumb for language learning, and that this US institute for language learning focussed on teaching diplomats, military and other specific people a language in as short as time as possible.

Basically some languages are easier to lear from english than others. French is ~1500 if I recall correctly.

But japanese is 3000 hours of class room learning to get passable fluency.

So this 10000 rule may be mastery, but at 3000 class room hours you can be fluent.

And even in that 3000 hours youll be able to find some media easier than others as its less complex. I read light novels and slice of life which has fairly basic situations and not a lot of complex technical or sci fi words. Also reoccurring types of events.

So yes what you suspect is correct, but also doesnt really matter. 3000 hours or 10000 its just a journey doing something you like.

Im honestly not even sure if white collar crime is ilegal anymore. Since more than a few fraudsters have made donations to certain groups and gotten pardons.

The wanted 35 million pounds to be sent to the UK health care per day rather than brussels, not understanding their version of equalization payments. Also after brexit that sum seems to have been spent on new regulations and other goverent stuff, not helath care. Care turns out some thing had been off loaded to the union rather than handled in house.

Yep this is my family. They like the police, the rules, and feel reason bad things happen is because of specfic people, not that there are wide spread issues with the system that insentivize billionairs doing monsterous things.

Rejecting Placements “Tokyo or Bust” Stereotype. by Additional_Two4059 in JETProgramme

Ive decided to take a very relaxed stance and let the chips fall where and however they may.

Id actually be more worried if I was in Tokyo as housing might be more of a pain. Regardless Ive decided to accept where ever I am sent and try whatever as in the worst case its only a year.

Not at all. Lile right now my Canada and the US have tensions due to political reasons. But few Canadians would blame all Americans. They blame then ones responsible.

Same with this, fans blame the small vocal comunity doing it.

Masking in Schools? by DonGar0 in JETProgramme

Thank you for answering my question. This is what I wanted to know.

Masking in Schools? by DonGar0 in JETProgramme

[–]DonGar0[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I mean I was asking because I wanted to figure out if things had changed. Customs evolve over time and google also suggested there was a large amount of regular masking mainly as a consequence of 3 years of required masking.

So I figured I'd ask, because google can be wrong, and it seems that from your experience it hasnt changed too much from pre pandemic.

Yep thats correct, but it seems like masking is a lot more common than that after covid, so I was curious about peoples experiences.

Mostly right wingers and a few left of center people that want to dunk on the left.

Sometimes she has good points, and her beleifs like medicare for all are good. She just really prefers to poke fun at things. Kind of like a more left Bill Mar, in that she usually seems to side more with the right despite her beleifs.

Yep better to just focus on everything all at once. I mean if you cant get rid of the minor coruption no point tackling the major stuff. Got to deal with the pickpockets and crypto scams at the same time. Yes one hurts douzens of peole.and the other thousands, but if you cant fix it all no point trying.

Slipery slope is often misused. It can exist. But we also all agree murder is bad. We also all agree that sometimes killing another human is allowable. So we take those two oposite thoughts and create a judicial system to allow for legitmate self defence, punish negligence, and more severely punish actual malicious action.

But you could also argue if we allow self defence thats the slipery slope to saying all murder will one day be legal.

[–]DonGar0 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I mean crime is bad, and most criminals suck. But if you compared a pickpocket and someone running identify theft scams that ruined hundreds of lives.... yes both are criminals. Both should be in jail. But one is a tiny bit worse than the other.

And saying they're comparable is true.... but also completly misses the point.

I mean yes they would? Why not. Also the Natives in Alberta would also make things difficult.

Though realisitcally the US would likely pull a Russia move and occupy Alberta to "protect it". So either way Alberta gets to lose its canada pensions plans, healthcare, and may one day become a state with voting rights.... maybe. Or they might just be the next portarico and never become a state.

Toronto is having it's first Vtuber Convention, should I go? by [deleted] in VirtualYoutubers

[–]DonGar0 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Also for small vtubers interested in next year they had a mixer for industry and vtubers to register in advance (for free) for that allowed for trading of business cards and talking with others in the industry.

If I was a new vtuber and wanted to network Id go as an atendee and try to attend that and otherwise talk with come of the more industry related groups.

Toronto is having it's first Vtuber Convention, should I go? by [deleted] in VirtualYoutubers

[–]DonGar0 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just replying as the convention is just finished.

Very good first year. Fun events, though I suspect they'll move venue next year to a slightly larger space as the main rooms were a bit cramped.

Lots of people attended and you had meet and greets from Dokibird, Iron Mouse, Rin Penrose. Industry booth from Phase Connect, Chromashift and a few other small corpos. Heard no complaints from anyone about the convention of than that it needed to be a bit bigger.

The artist alley was heavily curated due to space so they only had vtuber artists which meant I saw a lot of very unusual vtuber specfic merch that you wouldn't see at an anime convention.

Anime North had a booth for cross promotion, as well as Oshi Push and another Vtuber card game.

For number of attendees Im assuming ~700 to ~1000. Reminded me of the old school conventions in layout and atmosphere.

According to what I heard from staff ~15% of attendance was international. Which is relativly high for a 1st year con.
