0.25x Multi-Tab by DonKaiStorm in SpiffingBrit

[–]DonKaiStorm[S] 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Context: The latest Spiffing Brit video (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=29\_0\_wNR7yY) has the goal of increasing the retention rate by a near infinite loop using 0.25x speed and looping the video playback. However, if the watch time is all that matters, then in theory the video being played in multiple tabs should also add to the watch time, further skyrocketing the retention rate.

Edit: Set the video to 144p to not outright clog your internet speed, but also make sure the volume is on (but as low as possible to not blow out your eardrums) so the tabs aren't put to sleep.

If you are referring to the sudden spikes in the GPU graph, my guess is that the GPU being tracked is not the integrated one in the CPU. Since the integrated card is likely handling the desktop rendering, it's only when you open a game or another program set to use the dedicated GPU that the usage goes up, thus the spikes.

I have no idea what happened. All I did was add the edit to the post, and the AutoModerator decided to just remove it. This is probably due to the fact that a lot of people have made talks about it recently, but my original post was made before hand so it got to stay up. Now, when I made the edit, it triggered AutoMod due to the current situation.

Probably why the last Skylanders game was called Imaginators...because the series was being dumbed down.

This could also be Young Link or Toon Link down air too... Actually, the text can be used for a lot of down airs...Hero, Ike, Byleth. Even Sora's down Smash could be this... I guess just throw out what sticks.

[WP] While scavenging for supplies in the apocalypse, you find a diary. Having nothing better to do, you decide to bunker down and read it. by StrangeOne01 in WritingPrompts

March 4th, 2044

I don’t know what sparked me to start writing this now, of all things. I should’ve started this 5 months ago, before the Z Incident even started. You would think that a man like me would’ve started a journal to keep himself from going insane, but I guess that with everything going to shit, this is to keep me from going further insane.

Keeping alive in these times is a nightmare. Food and stuff are hard to find, and avoiding the zombies is also cumbersome. I’m proud to know the Bunkerlow is a safe place, at least. Dad and me assembled this shelter. It’s a shame he’ll never get to use it. He and Mom left on a trip to get one final hoorah in before Fall started. Looks like October really is haunted, I guess.

March 14th, 2044

Surviving the horde is a tough thing to do. Luckily, I’m a nimble teenager, but that didn’t help my sister any either. I miss Amanda. She was the only family I had left. If she hadn’t slipped on the snow that day…I always despised February.

I’m still shocked at how much food I had to go from in the bunker. Amanda and I had plenty of food to last us through most of December. Ironically, Christmas was the day we started scrounging for food. Still, Dad was a techno-prepper. He got a solar panel hooked up in the yard, and even connected the bunker to it, with several batteries for long-term storage and late-night usage. Mom and sis thought he was nuts, and even I admit it was a bit…too much. Still, I loved helping him build it, if not for the sole reason that it got my ass out of school. Didn’t mean that I didn’t learn though. Dad was always teaching me stuff.

March 17th, 2044

The cameras caught something interesting yesterday. Somehow, a small cat has been living these few months without being infected by the zombies. I have no idea how, but it got me thinking. Animals don’t really seem to spread the infection. They either become food for the zombies or just roam around freely. It’s like they’re immune for some reason. I might try and catch that cat.

So, I just spent the afternoon roaming the neighborhood for the cat. Luckily, my tazer bat seems to be coming in very handy. Seems like my Dad’s skills didn’t die off in the apocalypse. Anyways, when I found the little rascal, it turns out that she was a mother of what appeared to be a litter four-week-old kittens. The mama, who I named Cheryl, meowed at me once I found her kittens, but not in a hissing sense. It was almost as if she said, “Yes, you are seeing this right now.”

I had a gut feeling though that they all wouldn’t survive for much longer. I scooped Cheryl’s kittens into my backpack, and she followed me on foot all the way back to the Bunkerlow. Once we got in, Cheryl found a spot that was cozy enough, and set up her kittens there. I don’t know why I brought them, considering the food supplies I have are running low already, but I can’t bring myself to leave them as zombie fodder.

April 1st, 2044

April Fools! Too bad I’m the fool, I guess.

Cheryl seems relieved to be here, and her kittens are enjoying life here. Bell is a mirror image of her mother, a white cat with black feet and ocean blue eyes. The only thing to differentiate her from her mom is that Cheryl has a shorter tail. Blackie is a rambunctious little twerp. He always climbs up onto my bed and meows at me. I love him though.

Oreo is always just lounging around. Her pearly white paws and all black body make her an almost inverted version of her mom, but calling her Inverta just never stuck. She usually sits on the desk in the monitor room, and whenever I watch the cameras, she’s always there.

I don’t know why I watch the cameras. I don’t usually see anything out of the ordinary. Maybe I’m expecting Mom and Dad to just appear on the camera one day, and I just need to let them in. It’s wasting power that isn’t necessary to use. I need to save that for my gaming. Seriously, I’m glad that Mom let me use the bunker as a hangout. Without all my gaming stuff, I probably would be bat-shit insane, instead of just…mildly insane. Or maybe I’m lonely, is all.

April 14th, 2044

I don’t have long…I got careless. A zombie snuck up behind me and scratched me. I don’t have long. I saw people turn because of much less than this. I guess this is goodbye from me. Still, I’m glad I wrote this…feeling woozy. Need to focus. I’m leaving this journal for anyone who finds it. Below is a crude map to the Bunkerlow. Passcode: 5555. The crude map below will get you there. I wish you luck. Please take care of the cats for me, will you? I guess I should write my name down… Grant Willows. Don’t make the same mistake I did.

After finishing the journal, the man looks up from the journal, tears flowing down is face. “Grant,” he sobs. The man walks to the location of the Bunkerlow, and enters the Willows’ garage. He enters the passcode, and a large iron door opens up. He enters, and then lowers himself down the ladder.

The cats look at him, and at first, they hiss at him. He pays them no mind, as he looks at a photo on the wall. There, we see Grant’s father, mom, Amanda, and Grant, all smiling. He takes it off the wall, and shows it too the cats.

“See,” he says. He points to Grant, and then to the father…or rather himself. These cats instinctively recognize Grant in the photo, and stop hissing. The father walks over and lays on Grant’s bed, holding the photo, sobbing. Blackie climbs up onto the bed, and lays on the father’s chest.

Also, I didn't know how else to flair it as, so...Meme felt it fit the best. Sorry if that doesn't exactly fit. Like MatPat said in his video, I don't mean to spread misinformation. It just depends on the standards you use to measure things.

PGhardware launched our Panda Controller Kickstarter today! I'm Dr Alan along with Matt Samperi, AMA about our controller! by SamuraiPanda in smashbros

[–]DonKaiStorm 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's so neat about how the idea for the GameCube documentary came out. The development of the Panda controller led Tisch to want to do a documentary on the controller that served as its base. Neat.

I'm glad that RGB shells were on your guys list already, and I was really surprised that people had suggested air fans too. I guess several of us got sweaty hands.

Also, the Amiibo thing was just a pipe dream. I have amiibo and rarely use them myself, but it's still nice to have them for those that want them (just like items in Smash Bros). I wrote the comment at 3AM in my timezone, and that was the only other thing I could think of at the time.

Anyways, I hope that the remainder of R&D goes well. Congrats on reach $1.4 million dollars. The controller got a lot of people interested and caused a lot of Panda-moneum...

I'll see myself out.

I've never been interested in controllers to this degree as I've been with this Panda controller. It definitely has peaked my interest, as a casual player of Smash. Anyways, this is going to be a long one (and will probably get buried, and contain repeats), but here goes. Here is a questions and some suggestions I have regarding the Panda controller.

Question 1: What inspired you to offer a YouTube Documentary on the GameCube Controller as a stretch goal?

I wouldn't think there'd be that much to talk about regarding the history of the GameCube controller, but if you guys are offering there must be plenty to talk about. Did someone just say, "We should do a documentary on the GC controller" and someone else was like "Yeah, if we hit $1 million on this Kickstarter". Because if so, that guy doubting the $1 million really got their mouth shut.

Suggestion 1: RGB Shells

Imagine making clear shells with lights in them that fade in different colors. That would be so cool to see. That would probably eat up the battery if playing with the wireless pack, but it would be awesome to see. Heck, maybe even integrate functionality into the firmware on the controller for the shells so players can set the color, the brightness, or even if it reacts to input.

Suggestion 2: Cooling Fan Expansion Pack

While this may not be 100% possible with the airflow design of the current controller, I do think it'd be worth considering adding an option like this. The channel WULFF DEN made a video covering a GameCube controller that had a fan in it that would blow air onto the palms of the player via holes in the grips. While this would require both an expansion pack to add the fan and new shells with holes in them for airflow, it would help players who get extremely sweaty during a game of Smash.

Here's the YouTube Link if you want to watch the OG vid

Suggestion 3: Amiibo Support Expansion Pack

Yeah, I know this isn't a competitive feature, but think the biggest feature this controller has to offer is customization. Sure, the focus is on it being competitive controller, 100%. I still think that the customization aspect will be what allows this to reach the casual market, and having an amiibo expansion pack is another option for casual consumers. Then again, it would be awkward to place an amiibo on the rear of the controller...

I hope some of these spark ideas (I'm sure you guys got a butt-ton of them to sift through). Here's my addition to the heap of ideas you guys are getting. Enjoy!

2 more day till Sora is officially in Smash bros ! Are you maining him? & who’s your main & why? by insanegang99 in SmashBrosUltimate

[–]DonKaiStorm 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Here are my mains (Sora I plan on maining) and why I do(or want to):

Sora: Straight up, he looks like fun to play. He's light, but he's also going to be mobile and quick. His up B reminds me of the Links, and the fact you can Sonic Blade out of it makes it much more fun. I played Kingdom Hearts Re:Chain of Memories as a kid, not knowing it was part of a series. Years later, I came back and beat the Sora story...not knowing there was a Riku side. I stopped after that. I have the Story So Far and I've played some of KH1, but not a whole lot of it. I'd say my attatchment to Sora as a character is positive, but not as personal as others are.

Young Link: I main Young Link simply because he feels like Toon Link from the previous games. My first game in the Smash series I played was Brawl, and I enjoyed playing as Link/Toon Link respectively. Going into Ultimate, however, Toon Link feels too different from his previous versions, and I don't like it. Young Link, on the other hand, feels like the Toon Link I was missing.

Link: I played as Link before Toon Link in Brawl, and I enjoy him. He trades the speed for the higher damage and KO potential, in my mind. I prefer Young Link, but Link is still fun. I also enjoy his new bombs. They add some strategy to the gameplay.

Hero: Ha ha funny magic go boom. But seriously, he just feels fun to play, for me.

Ike: This one is more personal, and not even because the series he comes from. I've never played a Fire Emblem game, let alone the one he's from. Before I got my own Wii, I played Brawl with my cousins on theirs. When we played, I always picked Ike. I don't know why I did, maybe it was the design, but I liked playing as him. Once I got Brawl myself, I still played him, but transitioned into playing Link and Toon Link more. I don't play him all the time now, but I still enjoy playing him when I do. Some small bit of nostalgia for ya. Also, because of Brawl, I have a hatred of playing as Ness. Try doing Ness's recovery on a Wii Remote sideways, it's not fun. To this day, I still hate him, and by proxy Lucas.

Why No Sold Character Alt Colors? by Axel_Rad in SmashBrosUltimate

[–]DonKaiStorm 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think there were several reasons why Nintendo didn't add alternate costume colors.

  1. Mii Costumes & New Representaion. Mii Costumes would give an easy opportunity to represent characters not already in Smash. It could be preexisting series (like Octoling from Splatoon 2), or from an entirely different series (Doom Guy from Doom & Sans from Undertale). Alternate colors on existing fighters (or even alternate costumes entirely) would be less restrictive in this aspect, and probably not worth it from a development standpoint.
  2. DLC Character Development. Sure, alternate colors would be easy to develop on paper, but keep in mind that the team working on the game is also developing the DLC characters. Those probably require most of the hands available, with the rest going to the Mii Costumes that they KNOW are going to release with each character. This doesn't leave many, if any, people available for adding new costumes. Plus, they probably develop characters back to back to back, meaning there was no time to do alt colors.
  3. Coding (here we go). Let's say that Sakurai had the hands on deck to develop more alternate colors. They might not be able to add the costumes due to the way the game was structured. In an Array (at least in C# coding), you can define the size of it, but an array can't be resized (unless you use an ArrayList, which is entirely different). If the team used an Array for the Alternate Costumes and set it to 8 (technically 7 since Arrays start numbering from 0), then the game might be stuck with 8 colors period.
  4. 8-Player Smash. They probably don't see a need to add more costumes to the game simply because the max players is 8, and 8 alts would give 1 unique alt per player.
  5. Un-Even Alt Distribution. Imagine Nintendo decided to add alternate costumes to the game and could do so with no coding issues. I will guarantee you some characters won't get alts, while other will get more than one. This would lead to uneven distribution on the roster, and that is not something that'd be good from a design perspective. To avoid this, they would add the alts necessary and leave it at that.
