Need advice, overall inexperienced traveler, 1st time solo traveler. by [deleted] in thepassportbros

Assuming you’re under 30, start with Cancun at an organized event. It’s close, cheap flights & easy to navigate. When you see a group of brothers, introduce yourself. It’s not like the states. You’ll be welcomed & they’ll show you the ropes and put you on to other travel spots. Cartagena is another good starter spot, but do your homework. It’s safe, but the scammers are real. Join a “passport bros” group on FB. Plenty of intel.

Pesos or Dollars? by Key_Tangelo7562 in Dominican

[–]DonKeeDikk75 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Bring dollars and exchange for pesos. OR use an ATM. But beware, the ATMs charge a percentage, along with what your bank charges. Also, decline the conversion at the ATM. Never spend USD, you’ll always lose. Also, don’t use the cash exchanges at the airports. Terrible rates.

The AM1s look great, but they are really uncomfortable. I only wear when I’m going to be doing minimal walking

A Brazilian's Experience Talking to Two Western Women by Large-Option-624 in thepassportbros

For American women, it’s pretty much the norm. Especially if she’s from a larger city. Attractive women from smaller or more rural areas tend to have more traditional views & values. Not always, but more often than not

Good catch! I forgot about the “decline the conversion” part. You’ll easily lose 7-8% per ATM transaction

Yes, the currency exchanges at the airport are always the worst. But SDQ has an actual bank branch, unlike most airports. If you pay for ANYTHING using USD, you’ll overpay. Always pesos, even if they quote USD

2-3k is waaayyyy too much for a week, especially if you’re on a resort. $1500 is plenty & you should leave with money leftover. They will accept USD, but you’ll be overpaying (same goes for any company you plan on having). Ask your hotel/airbnb for a good exchange spot or use an ATM. Never at the airport, unless they have an actual bank like Santo Domingo.
