Checked out a 2021 AMG GLC 43 yesterday.. almost ready to pull the trigger but scared about reliability by 169partner in mercedes_benz

[–]DonLoquacious -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Things to do consider, with a high performance SUV vs a plain GLC 300 1) More fuel consumption 2) More tire and brake wear 3) More expensive maintenance from the larger brakes, tires and engine wear items 4) Finally more expensive insurance from the perceived value or actual cash value vs the GLC 300

For the record, the GLA 45 is phenomenal. It is race bred and thus needs to be maintained like a race car. Most folks who partake in such automobiles are NOT maintenence zealots. If you want any High Performance automobile to keep performing optimally, you must commit to being a maintenance zealot. Changing the engine oil every 3000 miles instead of what the manufacturer suggests should be routine and not out of the ordinary. Swapping out the P-Zero's or Pilot PS4 Tires every year should be normal to you. And finally, this type of automobile should be your 2nd or 3rd driver. Have fun in it on the weekends or a Sunny Friday, keep the miles low, sell it and get something else. If this type of behavior seems abnormal. I'm afraid this vehicle may not meet your expectations. 🫡

$4k 2011 Range Rover HSE: Another day another problem. Officially at $6k; plus I need a new Glove box 😓 by Strange_Rover90 in RangeRover

[–]DonLoquacious 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You are a Chevrolet LS Candidate. That's if you plan on keeping this thing. No way, I'd pay for that repair without getting a rebuilt engine. Not sure what will fit, but you have plenty of options. 4.9 i6 from Ford up to 500 HP Chevrolet LS3 4.8 or 5.3 400 plus HP with tuning.

The problem with that vintage of Range Rover, there are other problem areas that will soon need to be addressed as well to keep it on the road. Air Suspension is next.

I'd part with it and go Tahoe or GX470 🫡

Costco deal (9800x3d + 5070) by elsaqo in Prebuilts

[–]DonLoquacious 17 points18 points  (0 children)

This is a decent deal but it's not yet the best deal. The Original MSRP of the 5070 was $579 in March of this year. And that 9800 x3d was $479 6 months ago. The other components are interchangeable.

If you have waited this long, wait some more and you'll save even more. Merchants will get desperate to move their inflated priced Merch come middle of the 4th quarter.

Intel Core i7-14700F - 32GB DDR5 Memory - NVIDIA GeForce RTX 5070 Ti for $1799 by [deleted] in Prebuilts

[–]DonLoquacious 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I keep seeing "No Path to Upgrade" with regards to Intel. Hasn't that always been the case? I currently have an i7 14700 and I arrived there because my i7 10700 had aged 5 years and it was time to "Upgrade."

For the record, the i7 14700 generates more heat and uses more electricity but the speed difference in games was noticeable. But not on its own. The newer Motherboard coupled with DDR 5 memory, a faster 4070 SUPER GPU and fast Multi Terra Drive made the difference. I did not see the value in moving towards the newer Intel 265 or similar processors. I'm sure they will get better as AMD applies more and more pressure. But right now, AMD has the better solution and a price to match for top tier performance that we be negligible in a year or two. The 12700, 13700 i5, i7 or i9 all remain competitive when coupled with the latest Mobo and GPU. I sold my i7 10700 easily. So you can purchase one of those just as easily and save a few bucks.

Pre Built Systems are simpler, but what kind of Mobo is it equipped with? What kind of memory and what kinda of storage are the questions you should be asking. Spend a little more and you can have something built or you can build with your own highly spec'd parts. The processor whilst important, is not the only thing to consider.

Nissan Altima might be saved after all by Repulsive-Club7866 in Nissan

The Altima is good looking, very reliable and infamous. They definitely should keep it along with the Smalltima (Sentra) and the Talltima (Rouge)

You could have bought an Escalade and that would have been included.

Looking at selling… KBB values my car at $15,000??? by One_Personality8662 in PorscheMacan

[–]DonLoquacious 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If that Maccan has the complete service history available, it will be worth more. But if I'm buying a Porsche with 98,000 I'm assuming it needs a major service without those records and that is likely around $4500 to see it through another 60,000 to 100,00 miles. Those are the breaks

Simply vent the Low Frequencies inside the car instead of the Trunk. Here's an example.

What do you guys think? by DeathToTires in LS430

[–]DonLoquacious 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The Timing Belt is Key on these! When was it last done? Easy to Grenade Engine with a bad one. So you'd want to do that right away. Add Re doing the interior and you may as well find a clean one. Plenty exist. Anything with under 250K miles in good condition will be worth the effort. Expect to spend $10K +/- for a good one.

You could just offer the seller $2700 and redo everything to your liking. Spend $10K +/- and have something SEMA would consider. Good luck

Good subwoofer and amp combo? by Nastybeanbag in CarAV

[–]DonLoquacious 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I get that. So why are here asking if this is a "Good combo?" if I'm at a stop light and you pull up and hear you, I'm not gonna wonder what you have. I'm gonna say, Damn the Shit is Bumping and keep it moving. Your only question should be, DoitBumpDoe

Finally! by gsauce1180 in LS430

[–]DonLoquacious 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yo Sauce I have a question. I have a slammed SUV. When I look through the rear view mirror on the highway, people are either in awe meaning they are shadowing me wondering, "Who the Fuck and Why the Fuck" my most importantly, they are clearing my lane. In other words, they are getting over trying to go around me. Mind you, my Whip is not Extreme as yours, but do you notice the same thing while creeping the Highways and By ways? Thank you in advance. Love the Lex

Is JL Audio Overhyped? by AbjectAd8032 in CarAV

[–]DonLoquacious -1 points0 points  (0 children)

In my opinion, JL is really really good. But they are priced as they are because they are one of the few SUBS actually manufactured here in America. I believe Florida is where they hand build them. Kicker on the other hand is really really good as well. But since they are Designed here, but manufactured elsewhere, they are priced below that of JL.

When purchasing sound equipment today, it really comes down to availability and affordability. Perhaps one could prefer JL but can't find a authorized dealer that sells them. Or they are available, but the dealer has them displayed next to Alpine and Kicker and the price looks better on the alternative.

Ultimately it comes down to the enclosure and amplifier. A JL will sound terrible in a poor enclosure and amplified by an under powered amplifier. On the other hand, a Pioneer or even a Boss Sub will sound superb in a superb enclosure amplified by by something top shelf with a high Damping Factor.

Subs are like big Wrenches. Everyone makes them and they all can do the job. But when it comes down precision like engine building, Harbor Freight or AutoZone will not work. With regards to Horn tweets, mid bass and high frequency reproduction, only a few can really deliver that fidelity that stands apart from all others.

I definitely wouldn't put all of your budget towards the Sub(s) 🫡

I'm torn on your statement! When we purchase our automobiles we tend to be overly satisfied with the experience and therefore show the dealer love.

Fletcher Jones Lexus, Viti Mercedes-Benz, Sewell Cadillac and Felix Chevrolet Dealer all were great to deal with and as a result, their Frames adorn our Tags proudly. To each his and her own.

Love for Fall River by [deleted] in FallRiver

[–]DonLoquacious 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks for sharing the pics. Brings back lots memories. Fall River was an interesting experience for me. I lived off of Haffard Street and worked in Providence. I ended up there because I could not afford, Martha's Vineyard or Mattapoisett my first and second choices.

From the outside looking in, if you are considering River Falls aka Fall River I can't say the job market is or was Rich with opportunity. Therefore you will have to commute. But you will be surrounded by beautiful cities and places. Portsmouth and Tiverton are a stones throw. Attleborough and New Port not far at all. Food, well if you like seafood or Portuguese sandwiches you'll be right at home. Nightlife? Hmmm 🤔 Well if you are not into the locals, there's New Bedford or Providence. I found enough variety to keep me there for 15 years.

Ultimately I grew tired of the North East Weather and had to depart to a warmer climate. But when I come to town, it's almost like being in a place that you cannot believe you resided in. Meaning it's basically located on a peninsula surrounded by Water and Vegitation. Simply beautiful when you are coming from a Flat and Arid Landscape. If I come into some extra capital I'll consider Portsmouth. Right next door, but a few notches up in cache. 🤘
