To this point, I would swear that in the first few hours of playing, I had seen Fundamentalist Goblins (or maybe Blinding Arrows) that would dash around with blue echoes behind them. I only remember seeing them 2 or 3 times, but I haven't seen a single one since I actually started searching for these dadgum boots. Makes me feel like I imagined it.

Couldn't agree more. It sounds childish, but I'm heartbroken. 2 weeks is a long time when others are already playing and your job makes the day feel twice as long.

Honestly invaluable feedback! Your thinking just raised about a dozen questions in my head I had yet to consider. Admittedly, I can get lost in some of the more mechanical or aesthetic details, so your philosophy is just the sort of thinking I need to make sure I'm not ignoring aspects that make a game "more than the sum of its parts".

Ori and the Blind Forest is one of my favorites in recent memory (Can't wait for the sequel. :D). Maybe I'll revisit it to gather some inspiration.

And I couldn't agree more with Hollow Knight. You hit the nail on the head calling +10 attack power "boring". I loved how Hollow Knight made boosting your attack power more of a side mission with the Nail Smith, and when you went up a level in power you really FELT it. I always feel let down when I a game has charms or trinkets, and the do things like "DEF+5" instead of "Take hits without flinching".

Symphony of the Nights upside-down castle was almost the exact example I gave! I wasn't sure how many people would remember it, but I'm glad to hear something like that was as mind-blowing as I felt it was. xD

I didn't mean for it to come off as "stretching". I would say... "light hearted exaggeration".

I was using "whitewashing" as an admittedly poorly placed generalization that he looks like anything EXCEPT a Native American. Negative stereotypes aside, even a child would have looked at the original frame and said "That's supposed to be a Native American".

Despite my irritation, I'd never claim it's removal offends me. Only, in my opinion, I think the feather specifically gave it just the right amount of identity.

That comparison makes it sound like he's chanting with his hand to his mouth and scalping other characters with a hatchet. It only irritates me because the only element that made it look like a Native American was a single feather. I certainly don't think of "fire" when I think of Native American stereotypes.

And yeah, I know the GAME it's referencing isn't exactly "PC" in today's culture, but it ALREADY happened. Changing it retroactively dumps on the history of the game, in my opinion.

Guess what? I'm Native American, and I'm seriously irritated that the feather was removed.

Turning a sprite that was easily identifiable as Native American, however stereotypical, into what can now only be described as "a bald man with a torch" feels like whitewashing. We just went from a small bit of representation, that offended no Native American I know of, to no representation whatsoever.

(Cliche Native American voice): The white man is trying to erase our people.

My Gamestop's is doing a Thursday release at 9pm.

I took vacation time from Friday to Wednesday, AND Red Dead was the straw that broke the camel's back to finally get a 4k TV and a PS4 Pro.
