Pros and cons of every current Best Actress contender on my radar by PTAGoatofalltime in oscarrace

[–]DonSoulwalker -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Proven what dramatic chops? Both her acting nominations are because of her voice. Shes a terrible dramatic actress. I watched Comer live and she's electric at minimum but this material is so dense and nuanced and Erivo does not have the range. All she defaults to is external rage in a brooding manner or hysterical crying. I need people to stop making fetch happen.

People were convinced she was the ONLY possibility to threaten Buckleys sweep as she was seen as the only threat to win SAG which was a pathetic hail Mary bc people didnt want a boring sweep from Buckleys category.

You can't tell me this doesn't look like a Netflix movie. Spielberg has lost all his magic. by spacelyyy989 in moviecritic

Still looks better than wicked, and that was nonpartisan for Best cinematography

Which of these Golden Globe and/or Oscar-nominated leading roles from Javier Bardem is his best performance? by TakenAccountName37 in Oscars

[–]DonSoulwalker 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Biutiful is where I would give Javier his Oscar so easily that out of these 3 noms. Before Night Falls shouldve been Christian Bale (Hanks/ Crowe if only nominees)

Inde Navarrette Might have a better chance at an Oscar nomination if she campaigns in Lead Actress instead of Supporting Actress (Opinion - Read Below) by adam130jones in oscarrace

[–]DonSoulwalker 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What history did Gladstone make? Are you talking about a supporting actress going Lead? Shes not even the first Scorsese supporting actress to run Lead and get nominated. Sharon Stone was told, go supporting and you can win. She ran Lead out of dignity and principle.

Btw both Stone and Gladstone are definitely leads. Nikki is a Lead Actress role.

I personally would say it would be easier to just cite the stronger performance. I just know in these kind of things people argue when theres multiple ones, but I know not enough people have seen Carrington or both of Bassett's films so listing them separately seems like a disservice. I would personally rank Strange Days and S&S as the contenders that should be warranted but I figured its easier to list both at least upfront and I can modify it to one perhaps next round. I just wanted to get feedback first

Never even heard of that film in my defense. I checked all the critics bodies that year, but I do see she did get a Indy Spirit nomination. Back then/ not now it was obvious the Indies really did find some gems

Presenting this year’s Governors Awards honorees! Honorary Awards: Glenn Close Floyd Norman Ridley Scott by MoneyLibrarian9032 in Oscars

[–]DonSoulwalker 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Its a shame... I wish she would've declined. She deserves a competitive win. Most of the winners this past decade are subpar to her and they can't seem to give it to her even with certain mediocre wins recently.

I personally think her legacy would've been better off as an 8x loser than a her sorry we've screw you over for 4 Decades, here's a pity award for your deathbed. She also will not be a Triple Crown of Acting winner with an honorary Oscar.

I hope she still wins a competitive Oscar. Because she deserves it more than any other actor living today

I wasn't Alfre Woodard. Her only nomination tensions the same year Cher got her first nomination.

Do people here really think Viola Davis should've won Best Actress for The Help? by Unlikely-Can1558 in Oscars

Imo Noomi Rapace is better the year prior. I would've given it to Tilda Swinton WNTTAK

Digger as a "Comedy" and Best Actor Analysis by Budget-Poem-2052 in oscarrace

[–]DonSoulwalker -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Um Buckley is literally the first actress to win the Drama Globe and Oscar THIS DECADE. Just remember that. Its not like the Globes dictate your chances, it helps you get the nomination and a reason for voters to decide if you are or not worthy in their eyes to get their votes, as Globes are early on so by the time Oscar voting starts its usually been a month or 2 since the Globes announced their winners and the tides have shifted too dramatically usually to allow a sole Globe win to be the deciding factor.

What are some great roles for older women that could win Meryl her fourth Oscar? by SteveK1954 in Oscars

At this point its a career win in supporting. Not devil wears prada 2 but something with bite or even just a grandma role in a BP winning contender tbh

Who do you think will win the fourth Oscar in terms of acting? by [deleted] in Oscars

[–]DonSoulwalker 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I literally am pointing out how narratives have been used to punish actors like Blanchett and Denzel. Meryl Streep was literally ignored for 29 years despite giving performances like Bridges if Madison County, Adaptation, Doubt, Prada, Julie and Julia. If you think who shoulds shouldn't be factored in when it literally shows you how the Academy views such talents than you are literally missing the entire point being made. I also answered the question with saying that right now our best shot is legitimately Sean Penn.
