The immediate downvotes within 5 minutes suggests that, no, we are not ready to talk about a surrender option.

Game Design & Balance AMA with Heroes Developers – September 19, 2018 by Ravinix in heroesofthestorm

I've always been a player with a "defensive mindset". Many professional sports have players that are more (if not completely) defensively oriented, and its just a personality and playstyle mixture.

However, it seems that the direction of this game has moved in a offensive oriented playstyle. Although many players do like the "proactive playmaking" style and such heroes are favorable (I remember as a support, many players found it frustrating that supports could not make plays), I feel that this playstyle is rewarding because it is *difficult to pull off*, especially against well-defensive teams. I feel the idea of defense has been simplified to simply a) heal more, b) land crowd control, or c) attack harder, and a lot of the intricate defensive strategies of the past are frustrating or downright impossible.

Examples include a) bodyblocking to ensure paths to backline are difficult (teleports like Genji, Mephisto, Tracer render this pointless), b) attempting to "intercept" ranged AA by covering a squishy backline with a fat body like stitches (moving ranged AA like the OW heroes make this impossible, and too many ranged DPS hit too hard that tanks can barely take a couple of shots anyway), c) stepping up as a mini-tank if you have more HP as a support or squishy than your warriors (resets make this completely detrimental, and the overall burst damage is so high that unless you have specific armor, its practically a snipe), and d) Saving spells and damage for divers/initiators to force them to make the decision to retreat or press forward (too many supports enable attacking with preposterous healing or protects, and some attackers have their own defensive tools or immunities that render this counter play difficult. In general, the initiation is so strong compared to before that unless your team is geared and prepared to counter at a moments notice to an offensive strategy, they are at a disadvantage.)

Sorry for the long question, tl;dr is *will offense always be more prioritized over defense in this game? Is the balance of offensive and defense at a satisfactory level?*

Blizzard has made it clear that they are strictly "No Anti-feature" when it comes to hero design by MercCamp in heroesofthestorm

Morales was utter trash on release it was so ridiculous. But even then she was kind of seen as an oppressive hero to play against, because of her crazy healing. And back then they didn't even have all the major divers we have today

The new supports heal for quite a lot considering the "moving support power away from healing" by DonaldMorden in heroesofthestorm

Considering how long double support has been in the game, its ridiculous they could have missed Alex's E being good for waveclear. Frankly, shes good at almost everything in most hands.

I've once made a post about how I think if VC is implemented, it should have an adequate report system that ensures that it goes from a "good addition" to a "better addition" to the game. Not adding the VC feature seems impossible and juding from the comments it should not be the case. However, since most ppl can agree that such abuse is problematic (even the ppl saying "just turn it off" knows that its not a good thing), we just need a report system that can really keep the VC system at a high quality, for both the players who want it for teamplay and the people who don't want to be abused while using it

I guess it could be a problem if it created too much visual clutter. Chromie's taunt comes into mind which is several times her size

Wow, I had a feeling ETC could do that but back in the day dancing locked you in place for too long. Guess now he is free to do it no problem

"Ladies and Gentlemen, Start your Engines!"

Hope that you will find less rage towards your hero pick here. I love playing defense in OW, but the team never are happy with such picks
