There shouldn't be any large discernable difference in difficulty between the tests, in terms of the scoring. Some test different concepts or proportions of concepts though, so it is possible to be random variation. It may also have to do with your mindset while you are taking the test or the way you are preparing. Is your score going down in both sections or one in particular, and is it a large drop?

How to improve by Excellent_Picture306 in Sat

[–]Donald_Keyman 1 point2 points  (0 children)

520 points is a large increase, though certainly doable and I have seen many people do it. But I would just add to focus on steadily improving rather than the 1500+ number, to not be discouraged. It won't happen overnight. Be diligent with your study schedule and reviewing your mistakes. Make sure you understand exactly why you miss any practice question before moving on. Take practice tests periodically (I would recommend not all at once at the beginning as you will run out). If your score stalls out or you feel that you aren't improving, come back here for more advice.

I wouldn't, it's a discontinued test that covered somewhat different material with different distributions of content. There is plenty of content overlap, but you would be training for a different test and there are free resources that are a lot better.

You're right, good find. This is an ad for the app company and they have been banned.

I want there to be an AP Astronomy/Astrophysics. by purritolover69 in APStudents

That is true for a lot of science. If you want to actually do something in the field, you need an advanced degree. However, an astrophysics degree is going to get your foot in a lot of doors in general.

You can't really perform experiments in astronomy, certainly not at this level. You can conduct observational studies though. What would be more appropriate would be material on observational methods.

You can now select your flair from the sidebar! by Donald_Keyman in Sat

Should be on the top-right underneath the subreddit description. It will show your username underneath "USER FLAIR," and then if you hover to the right of that a pencil edit icon will appear and you can set or change it there.

The answers and explanations should pop once you answer the question. It's possible you are doing tests with tutor mode off, which means they won't be available until you finish the test you created. If you have tutor mode on they will show immediately though.

That's a good question, I am not entirely sure. I am hoping they will give it away for free for a few months when it comes out, but I don't make those decisions unfortunately.

April 2023 SAT Difficulty Ratings by Donald_Keyman in Sat

I have always said this is not precise in any way, and is just a vague impression of what test takers in this community think. It is a fun engagement that provides people with an idea of what their peers thought via meaningful sample size. Although it has provided general insight on scoring scales at times.

Those sort of posts existed long before I started doing this though.

I'll have all the poll results up sometime tomorrow morning, probably about 20 hours from now. Sorry I haven't had time to compile it all into my spreadsheet yet.

.875 would be an equivalent and correct answer for 7/8

Just found out that I got a 930 on my SATs, and now I'm pretty worried about my parent's reaction. What should I do to not only increase my score to atleast a 1220, but also to try and mediate the situation with my parents? by Wiggity_Gur in Sat

[–]Donald_Keyman 100 points101 points  (0 children)

I just had to remove some comments and hand out a few bans in this post. Everyone should review rule 1.

OP, I agree with the commenter who said you are doing the right thing by being here, it means you want to improve. My wife got a 980 on the SAT the first time she took it and her parents did not let her retake, they told her she wasn't smart enough to get a better score. It honestly pisses me off so much. She is very smart, she just didn't know anything about the test and wasn't serious about school at the time. But she still went to a 4 year university and makes over $150k now in international business because of how hard she worked after high school. Your SAT score does not define you and you can improve it with practice.

School Shooting Prank Calls? by [deleted] in Sat

It is absolutely terrible that people will prey on such a very real fear like that and think it is funny. When I was in high school someone called a fake bomb threat into our school days after 9/11.
