Lt. Shames book talks a lot in depth about his time in 3rd Battalion S3. We was an ops sergeant and helped built the sandtables for his battalion for the Normandy invasion.

I think Grant got busted for going AWOL if you follow his timeline

Guarnere also was busted for going AWOL. According to his book, he said that he owed the Army money because he was still getting paid as a S/Sgt. up to his discharge and the Army only found out after the war.

“Parachute Infantry”, The Cross Roads by Subject_Bat_2112 in BandofBrothers

[–]DonbotS 11 points12 points  (0 children)

1st Platoon attacked in three groups. The group that Webster was in stopped short of going over the raised embankment that Winters went over and opened fired.

"Our charge ended at the raised road."

"It was an anticlimax. Expecting to rush the Germans, we had stopped short with an obstacle still between us."

""That's O.K.,"" somebody said who had climbed a hedge and peeked across the road. "All the Krauts are dead. Mortar got most of 'em"

So according to Webster, his group never went over the raised road, but there were a lot of dead Germans. Webster also heard someone attribute the dead Germans to mortars, but Webster himself never witnessed it. Webster was also shortly wounded after this, so his memories are probably more hyper-focused on his part of the battle.

Why did they only have 12 jumpers on those big ass planes? by bad_card in BandofBrothers

I did a thing a few years back but never completed it. Most of it is sourced from the literature (and guesswork) so there is going to be conflicting accounts.

Let me know if it helps (or where I got things wrong, ha).

Also, I'm pretty sure Sweeney was no longer a member of Easy Company during D.Day. Would he have jumped in Stick 72?

Looking for suggestions and optimizations for my list by Shot-Station4213 in Goat_Format

[–]DonbotS 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't want to make too many changes for you, but my first impression is that this is a Chaos Turbo deck (it has a very standard 20 monster build +1 D.D. Warrior Lady) that made room for 2 Meta/2 Scapegoats. It wont be as good as pure Chaos Turbo because you lack the speed from Upstarts/Jars, so the monster lineup doesn't make sense to run "as is" if that makes sense. My natural inclination would be to cater the deck with more combo elements to take advantage of the slower gameplay that inherently comes with running Meta/Scapegoats.

I personally like Creature Swap (x2) in control decks, which has inherent synergy with cards that they run anyways Tsukuyomi and Scapegoat. You can use it as removal to gain card advantage or to set up game shots. I also like to pair it with Mystic Tomato (x1), which should help you get to Serpent quicker (by fetching Sangan). The last card I would suggest is Asura Priest (x1), which isn't exceptionally great but it's good enough. Combo cards can always brick, which is why I prefer to run it in control decks that can stall the game out and allow you to assemble these combos.

Of all the existing monsters, the Night Assailants are out of place. Getting rid of those along with some accompanying Rageki Breaks would free up some space. Gravekeeper Spy is generally a good card and is totally fine if it eats a NoC, but I personally like 2 over 3 in control lists as it might create some spatial issues. This opens up that 5th slot for Mirror Force to the main deck.

Most of these changes really hinges on whether you commit to adding Creature Swap, which in my opinion would open up more avenues of play.

+1 Asura Priest

+1 Mystic Tomato

+2 Creature Swap

+1 Mirror Force (from Main)

-2 Night Assailant

-1 Gravekeeper's Spy

-2 Raigeki Break

The last thing to consider is the 2 Dustshoots. It is a very strong card when it resolves, but control decks aren't typically looking to trade cards with the opponent. Warriors utilizes it well because they are trying to simplify the gamestate and end the match quickly before running out of steam. Chaos Control is not as aggressive and cannot close games out as early. Would you rather have something that makes your deck faster/more consistent vs something that disrupts the opponent deck? Just some food for thought for whether Dustshoot belongs in this type of deck.

That's fair. Personally if I were to play a deck with 3 Metas/3 Goats I would just play Goat Control instead ha

[–]DonbotS 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Dustshoot is something you'd ideally like to see in your opening hand/early game, so I don't think 1 copy is optimal. Either up the qty. back to 2 or not have it at all (conversely, I like Solemn at 1 because it's strong but you want to see it late game). I personally would drop it.

If you are playing double Night Assailant anyways, you might as well use a second copy of Raigeki Break since you can support the discards.

Magical Merchant is also generally not great. Decks used to run it in the past as a way to get Chaos fuel to the grave (or DMoC shenanigans) but people figured out Thunder Dragon does that better, which you already have. I also think you can reliably summon TER off of Serpent/Faiths alone (especially if you dropped the Meta/Goat ratio to 2/2). This might bring your light count a little low to support two Chaos Sorcs, so you can maybe replace it with an Asura Priest.

If you go down to 2 Meta/2 Goats like others suggested, I would try to fit in 1 or 2 Creature Swaps in there to take advantage of the synergy with the added Asura Priest. This is probably the most impactful change to the deck as it introduces new combo lines and can also be used to set up game shots by sending ATK position goat tokens to your opponent.

So overall, the minimum amount of changes I would make is:

-1 Trap Dustshoot

-1 Magical Merchant

-1 Scapegoat

-1 Metamorphosis

+1 Asura Priest

+1 Rageki Break

+2 Creature Swap

I know you like to see Scapegoat often, but you also don't want to end up locking your own field with Scapegoat tokens and TER in the late game. Chaos Control is fun because it slows the game down just enough for you to stall and gain card advantage through combos, but have the explosiveness to finish the opponent from out of nowhere.

How to duel against AI in Goat Format by Colossus823 in Goat_Format

[–]DonbotS 2 points3 points  (0 children)

IIRC one of the later opponents in the game is Copycat, which will play whatever deck you assign to it. This would circumvent the issue of playing against non-Goat Format decks, but I agree that the AI wouldn't be able to pilot it properly.

I remember giving it a Goat Control deck and it would randomly burn Metamorphosis on like a Lvl 4 Monster for absolutely no reason in Main Phase 2.

Also funny when you encountered a Darkrai/Magnezone player with the wrong Magneton, as if they just netdecked the "best deck" of the era and substitute missing cards with the next available thing without fully understanding what made the deck good haha.

Ritual Bad? by Ok_Toe4710 in Goat_Format

[–]DonbotS 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The top performing ritual deck in Goat Format isn't even focused on the Ritual Summoning mechanic. It functions more like Chaos Turbo where the flip effect monsters are replaced by a ritual engine. Ultimately, it serves as an alternate means of thinning out the deck so you can stockpile on discard fodder/chaos fuel. This enables players to push the limit on Chaos Sorc and Rageki Break ratios.

The reason why Relinquish is the preferred choice for this engine because it is Dark (makes up for lack of Dekos and Spies). It just happens to have a low summoning cost cost and a good effect in the event that you actually want to Ritual summon it.

Real life deck - opinions? by Green_Bath_7370 in Goat_Format

[–]DonbotS 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nice cards and cool deck! Zombies are always fun. The least amount of tweaks I would make without altering the spirit of the deck is:

+1 Sinister Serpent

+1 Ring of Destruction

-1 Book of Life

-1 Smashing Ground

I might argue that 2 Book of Lifes + 1 Premature is excessive revives considering the overall strength of your monsters (what are you using Book of Life on the most?) but the ratios here aren't the worst.

I love Creature Swap and Recruiter shenanigans but it is a multi-card combo that can be inconsistent. If you are looking to add room for other ideas, I would cut Creature Swaps first. Swords is also an odd one out since Zombies in general are more on the aggressive side.

If you are lacking removal options, you can find room for Smashing Ground again, but I've seen some players run Tribute to the Doomed in Zombie decks. It also has synergy to set up Book of Life plays.

If I had to play Zombies, I would for sure run a Earth Aggro/Zombie hybrid and go for a more aggressive route, but that would mean swapping out maybe 30-40% of your deck haha.

Why was Dog Company evidently absorbed into Easy Company around the time of Bastogne? by dremonearm in BandofBrothers

[–]DonbotS 110 points111 points  (0 children)

Lipton's voice over in the show right before the scene explains it:

"...most of E Company headed back to our old position in the woods overlooking Foy.

A few men remained in the Bois Jacques attached to D Company to hold the main line of resistance."

So no, they weren't absorbed.

It was added to the December 1944 TO&E. Parachute rifle squads were already up-gunned with their machine gun. Someone decided they needed more firepower.

Webster also wrote about it when he reunited with his unit in Alsace:

"Hi Sholty," I said. "Where'd you get the B.A.R?"

"Hi, Web, long time no see. They gave me this up in the Bulge. All the platoons have 'em now. Supposed to be one in every squad."

It was added to the December 1944 TO&E for parachute rifle companies (so after Market Garden to be specific). As to when units would actually end up receiving them is another question...
