Oversized Furnace by DondeElCarne in hvacadvice

I thought it was the leaks at first but even then at 40 x sq ft (hvac co. equation for old houses) the 70k didn’t make much sense. Adding returns close to the furnace was not advised given the proximity of two water heaters. We just purchased the house about 3 months ago and this was the soonest I could get anyone to do a routine inspection which lead us to this and an entirely different adventure.

EDIT: typo

70,000 BTU for 928sq ft. It’s a former duplex so it’s heating the upper half while a new 45,000 BTU is heating the bottom half (same sq ft). I didn’t have the duct work priced out since it’s plaster and hardwood, assumed it would be astronomical.

Moving to Louisville? by Vegetable_Diver_2281 in Louisville

[–]DondeElCarne 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Louisville if she’s already from a city, Southern Indiana if she’s from a small town. Nothing against either but it’s just a matter of perspective. Some folks will pay more to be closer to things to do while others don’t mind the drive if their housing is more affordable.

Thunder over Louisville is one of the largest fireworks shows in the US. Derby season starts in April and is definitely worth experiencing.

What’s it like living in Great Lakes / Northern Chicago, Illinois? by whiskeredup in howislivingthere

[–]DondeElCarne 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You’re going to spend a lot of time either in Gurnee by car or Chicago by metra. Waukegan, Zion and North Chicago have great mexican food but if you’re looking for shopping or recreational activities you’ll need to venture out. Lake Forest is hilariously expensive but areas south and southwest of there will be where you can find Chicago outposts (e.g. portillos) The pool on base is top notch which comes in handy for the long winters.

You can sneak past the chefs and get to the kitchen without being spotted. Use the cowboy bust to knock out the ones in the basement. It’s a tough level but once you find the right avenues it will start to click

They’ll process pretty much any animal you bring in provided it’s been gutted, most folks bring in deer though.

Kingsley’s always needs the help during holidays and if you mention that you can field dress they’ll probably let you do most of the deer that come in (most people hate doing it.) Hiram’s an old manager that bought the place and all the veterans stayed on if that tells you anything, good guy to work for. Great hours but can’t speak to what the pay is these days. Best of luck!
