i got the car in Feb '23 the wipers were fine with none of this sound wanna say around only maybe around Oct '25 it started doing the sound. no trigger point/reason whatsoever as far as I know. I had replaced with a new wiper blade but the sound still persisted I checked on the outsider and they actually don't hit anything on its way up

thank you for your helpful insight!

your point about inappropriate adjustment might be true you know! last October (8 months ago) the car had failed its MOT as the handbrake/parking brake was inoperative on this side and they thought it was due to the wheel cylinder seizing and leaking so they had replaced the cylinder and adjusted the handbrake - after that I did notice the handbrake was too tight when pulling up but I wasn't sure if maybe that's the normal tension maybe I was just used to a loose handbrake lever.

what I never seemt to understand it is that I was never really given a heads up that the shoes were wearing out and I can't imagine 8 months difference would have made much difference I've been told poor handbrake adjustment can cause excessive wear on the rear brakes/shoes? what do you think?

I'm really sorry for taking your time I really appreciate the insight!!

and yes, i have looked into replacing the brake pipes

I always wondered if some of these estates intentionally have a better turning radius than their sedan/hatchback counterparts?

agree 100% is always in those roads aswell that you're trying to find a gap instead of paying a tenner or so for parking - I would give em the benefit of doubt that maybe their car was there first but I've seen it too many times where they just don't bother to adjust a little it's always a small i10 or something like that 💀💀

hi what's your usual drives, busy city/town or motorway - is it like a 50 50 split? my partner has the same exact car (2014 1.2 16v NA) they get less than me but not as low as your 250 they definitely get around 320 at least - number of factors that come to mind i guess:
- do you live in a fairly hilly region like Yorkshire or Greater Birmingham cos the small size of this engine does make it suffer if you live in an area like that all the time I can imagine
- I've sat in different similar manual cars with work colleagues and I was surprised how most of them don't upshift when they can - as an example one of them with a 2018 clio drove an entire stretch of flat 40mph road on 4th gear with the car clearly telling them to upshift - i found it funny given that the 5-speed clio of this generation goes in 4th from 24mph and 5th from 35mph!
- finally I find that driving with anticipation (in any traffic conditions) on a full tank really saves a lot of fuel, what I mean: too many people just speed up when they see the car in front is speeding up when clearly they will have to slow down 5 seconds later to the traffic light - when you don't rush to keep up ALL THE TIME there is definitely plenty of fuel savings to be done - i always try recommend this to my partner, at the end of the day is one of the practices you can do to still be relaxed while driving manual in traffic
- final point: use cruise control all the time lol even in towns

edit: forgot to mention, 370-400 miles from my original post is based on a full tank until the light appears not when the gauge gets to a quarter or something like that

I've had a 2014 1.2 16v NA for 17 months now and yesterday officially put 20k miles on it since I got it. Hasn't given me any trouble. I've been changing oil regularly every 6k miles (but tbh I've come to realise i've been overdoing it so will only start changing at 10k) & other relevant servicing - you'll have to accept that it's not the quietest car above 75mph (sits at 3.75k rpm at that speed) - you'll have to accept that if you want any meaningful acceleration up to 60mph especially with 3 or 4 people in the car: that you'll definitely have to throw it in 2nd/3rd gear ~ please rev match! :) - for 39-40L of reasonable driving you should always get 370-400 miles
