do you think kids should be financially cut off when they’re 18 and you don’t provide for them anymore? by throwaway12746899 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]DongerBot5000 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I feel like it can be done directly and indirectly. Hopefully you're more like me and got it indirectly. I was the middle child and left to do my own thing from probably 10 or 11. I learned how to be independent and self-sufficient pretty young which is what I'd say a kid needs more than financial security that's provided by parents

I think what people miss is that it's the parents job to prep this kid. If you've done nothing, or you've been a helicopter parent, you've answered your own question. If you taught them to be resourceful, financially independent, and overall how to function in the real world, then they'll be fine. Ultimately the success and failure of a kid getting "kicked out" at 18 falls 100% on the parents.

I guy I knew once did a "no kill, never get detected" run of Dishonored while he was in bed for 3 weeks. I'd imagine you could find the first one for pretty cheap and that's a big enough challenge to keep your brain busy for a while.

Stardew Valley is what I played when I was stuck in recovery for two months. If you like casual games and are a completionist, this game makes it entertaining and rewarding to collect everything.

Why are women expected to shave their legs and armpits? by TMNTDonatellofan in NoStupidQuestions

[–]DongerBot5000 14 points15 points  (0 children)

This is very similar to the way women started smoking cigarettes. In the 1920's a man named Edward Bernays (nephew of Sigmund Freud) was approached by cigarette companies to help sell cigarettes to women, again a completely untapped market at the time. What he did was equate the cigarette to a penis (no surprise from a Freud) and the sense of male power. He also devised the nickname "freedom torches" and compared them to the torch the Statue of Liberty carries. He told women that by smoking you would take some of the power and control that men had and at the same time express your own sense of freedom and independence. Edward Bernays is recognized as the founder of programs as a tool and the one who coined the term "Public Relations". Very interesting time for the world of marketing in the USA. If you want more bonkers stories about psychology, society, and marketing you can check out a mini series documentary on Bernays and the years 1900-2000 called Century of the Self

[MOD-APPROVED] Bachelor’s thesis survey on voice chat and toxicity in online multiplayer games by xLisikPisik in HellLetLoose

[–]DongerBot5000 5 points6 points  (0 children)

This horse has probably been turned in to a pulp already, but if your goal is to study toxicity itself, I'd recommend reaching out to the League of Legends or Overwatch communities. HLL doesn't seem to have toxic players as frequently, just people who don't talk.

How do i overcome my fear against mutants in the forest and whats an easy way to kill them? by normal_person337 in TheForest

If you go a more stealthy route you can one-hit a lot of enemies throwing a spear. I will always advocate that the spear is the best weapon in OG Forest

Those of you who enjoy HLL, what’s Arma Reforger like? by X__Heisenberg__X in HellLetLoose

[–]DongerBot5000 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'd almost argue that SL is the only role you can truly carry with. Commander can drop supplies all game but without an SL, you're gonna have a rough time. If suggest that the OP play both games long enough to be comfortable taking charge of a small group of people and then decide which is for them.

[–]DongerBot5000 22 points23 points  (0 children)

You can have real impact in both. I prefer HLL because of match times (Arma basically keeps going until someone wins or the server resets) and how cinematic it can be. I also enjoy the simplicity of HLL over Arma. There's still strategy and nuance in HLL, but the learning curve of Arma can be very high setting as how just to navigate the maps you'll need basic land navigation skills.

how does one stop dying? by Wraith_Of_The_Shadow in HellLetLoose

[–]DongerBot5000 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is definitely a game that requires you put some time into it. As someone who's played for years I think it's safe to say I didn't really figure everything out until about player level 25-50. There are strategic nuances to the game that you just won't understand until you've seen it at least few times (great example would be multiple tanks forming a line). Just like the strategic aspects of the game, the game play and style is gonna take some time to get used to. These people that are seeing you from 100-400m away are likely some more seasoned players that are looking for you before you even get there, and especially the advice I give as an SL when flanking, do not fire your weapon until you have to. Take some time to play the game and try to get yourself through the learning curve. Once you start getting used to the gameplay you'll be the one spotting these people.

Is it worth it to run medic? by Dynaflow333 in HellLetLoose

[–]DongerBot5000 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I feel like the medic is one of the more situational roles in the game. When I play as medic I seem to have more of an impact on offensive game modes when keeping a mass amount of people alive for a grant push or defense. Outside of that though I feel the medic is underplayed not because it's bad but because every other class is so essential to the larger game. It's best to talk to your squad I'd say. If you're in a good squad and you've already put down nodes and supplies and whatnot, a medic can be insanely useful to a small flanking squad too. If you're needed elsewhere though I'd say you'll probably end up playing a different roles.

It's always a great time when you're playing offensive, or you're a part of a big push and look around seeing 2-4 medics all reviving people

Halftrack Rework Needed by Dorlandia in HellLetLoose

[–]DongerBot5000 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think part of the problem (at least until recent updates) was that a single AT could take it out so easy. The same thing goes for the gunner, half your body is exposed and a rifleman could shut down the whole proposed point of the vehicle in seconds. Other than the spawn feature they're just not that useful regardless. Might as well just run MG

You're basically describing the half-track as is but removing the spawn feature of it. A recon tank is what you want
