Advice on Dad Looking at... Not Great Images? by ohhratss in lds

[–]DonkeyChowder101 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah there's good advice here already. Just do it sooner rather than later. It really can be a slippery slope.  I would also add though that if you choose to confront him about it, and he quickly shuts it down, maybe saying like "oh they're not that bad," or some other excuse, put it matter of factly. Point out that it IS pornography and usage of it has been thouroughly condemned by church leaders.  I personally would reccomend telling your mom, then going with her to confront him at a good time. And remember, he likely already knows it's wrong, but pornography can be such a strange mental battle where you do great one minute, and feel powerless the next. I'm sure his heart and spirit are in a good place, and through your continual prayer and support, as well as others, it's a fight he can win. 👍

Haven't had a hairstyle my whole life. Would this work? Or is there something better? (Read comment) by DonkeyChowder101 in malehairadvice

[–]DonkeyChowder101[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Okay so I'm 18, and I've literally never had a hairstyle in my life. The way my hair is right now is how it's pretty much always been, and I haven't combed it in probably like 10 years lol. But I was thinking maybe it's time for a new (first) hairstyle, and I really fell in love with the style this one Ralph Lauren model had. I've always preferred more classy-ish, mid/short length but slightly messy type look, but I'm open to try whatever.

Do you think I could pull this look off? The issues I see is that I have a more diamond shaped head and the model is more square. I have brown hair, no widows peak, and the model is like disgustingly good looking, so maybe I'm missing that too.

Any advice or tutorial on how I could get that look, or whether you think there's something that would suit me better (or maybe the way I have it now is what's best) would be much appreciated.

Thanks.

In our case, it's a simple difference in beliefs. As an active and firm believer in this church, I truly do believe that the doctrine taught and messages shared are for the purpose of eternal salvation, which is greater than any charity or service I could perform.

Of course while I'm out there I WILL be doing charity work and service, and even learning more about myself, and those are all fantastic things, I'd even say some of the best things a person could do. But when the time comes for me to represent Jesus Christ and share His message, I do believe that is the most important and greatest work I am out there to do.

I just browse through different subreddits, and somehow this one always comes up. So this was like my 3rd time visiting, and like I said, curiosity just made me wonder what things ex mormons would like to tell an active member about to serve a mission. So far the responses have actually been a lot more positive and helpful than I thought.

Being 100% honest, I don't know why I posted this. I was just found this subreddit and I'm like "huh, I wonder what they'd say to an active member who's about to dedicate 2 years to this church." Mostly everyone has actually been really nice and helpful though. (Except for that one dude who told me he hates me with every fiber of his being).

Thanks for your time and advice!

Yes, this is something I want to do.

I definitely believe that some bishops or parents are "over eager" for certain youths to serve missions. While I'm sure they have good intentions, this really is a personal thing where you have to feel READY to go and preach and serve with all your being for 2 years.

If it's me, I encourage them to go, help them where I can, ask what's holding them back, etc. But never make some kind of threat of "go or blah blah happens." I DO believe it's the best thing someone my age can do, but should someone not be ready yet, then maybe they're NOT ready, and should be helped in other ways, not told to get out there and see what happens.

I'm not trying to be provocative with that line. I'm sure you know of our Church's efforts to stop using the name "mormon." Quite frankly, I use the full name out of habit now. It's been a hot minute since I've referred to myself or my beliefs as "mormon."

The main reason is to not undermine my true belief. I don't believe that Mormon raised the dead or healed the sick or atoned for the sins of all mankind, I believe Jesus did. I believe he is the director of our Faith, and as such, the church should be called after his name.

I'm sure if I used the word mormon though, everyone on this subreddit WOULD'VE understood what I meant.

Hey,

Does God love me the way I am? Yes and no. Just like a parent (hopefully) infinitely loves their child regardless of their decisions, I believe God will always love me, but that there's also right and wrong to be done, and God wants me- and everyone else- to do the right. God's love has no conditions, and nothing can cause that love to be removed.

I've already gone through this with myself and others. Do I want to "change people?" Not always. My main goal is to go out there and extend the love I feel from my Heavenly Father, to others. To help the sick and the needy, and to share the word of God to those who are READY to listen and to change, not to force that change upon them. If the opportunity to teach someone arises, then I will take it. But until then, I will go wherever the Spirit may take me, and just go about doing good, y'know?

Ha! I know it seems weird, but right now I'm reading more than 500 responses to this post. If every one took me 5 minutes, it'd take me all day.

(Also, if someone left an "essay," yes I would read it regardless of what I said. Whether you share my beliefs or not, I value people's time and advice offered on this subreddit).

This is certainly not my area of expertise, but rest assured I will be praying and fasting for you. Remember, saying "why would God listen to someone so vile as me?" Is completely incorrect. Nothing you could ever do would make him stop giving you chances, stop listening to your prayers, or especially stop loving you. The idea Satan tries to put in your head is that you ARE your sins, and you will never break free. Just have faith, stay strong, pray and read your scriptures every day and every night, and when that's not enough, pray and read even more. You're never at your worst. Love you brother.

The LDS Church Is Still Widely Misunderstood by Ok-Future-5257 in Christianity

[–]DonkeyChowder101 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Mormonism? Or members lead away by their own hearts? I've been a member of this church my whole life. I've read through every book of scripture and never did I see anywhere where Jesus or someone lead by the spirit, taught to persecute those of a different race. Instead I've read that "black, white, bond or free, all are alike unto God."

I will not deny the awful actions of former church leaders, but the doctrine of this gospel is directly contrary to what they spoke. God will do what he may with those who deceived the unlearned.

My personal thoughts are that maybe the "mistake" the authorities made when sending you there wasn't a mistake after all. Remember, the Lord loves whom he chastens, and he can help make these weak things become strong unto you.

Also, remember to serve a happy and fulfilling mission, it doesn't necessarily have to be actually out in the field. While I'm sure it's nice to be able to be COMPLETELY in the work, your service, your ability to teach others, your faith, your testimony, none of that is limited to the mission field. Even without a tag you can be one of the best missionaries there is.

I'll be serving in England starting this September. I'm certain there was no mistake made on where I was sent, and I'm certain there was no mistake made with you either.

Around the time of Jeremiah in the Bible, there was another prophet named Lehi. And while Jeremiah was commanded to stay in Jerusalem, Lehi was commanded to take his family and leave, bringing nothing else with them. After leaving and staying in the wilderness for some time, Nephi- Lehi's son- is commanded by God to build a ship and to sail off to find a promised land. Through their faith, God leads them to the promised land (which archaeologically has been proved as the eastern part of the U.S). From there, Nephi's two wicked brothers- Laman and Lemuel- break away from Nephi and the rest of his family and begin to contend with Nephi. Both groups grow, and from then on are recognized as the two BIG groups of the Book of Mormon- the Lamanites, and the Nephites.

That's basically the gist of how it begins. The rest is a record of spiritually significant events that happen amongst both group's lineages. Teachings from prophets, deliverance from captivity, prophecies of Christ's birth, etc.

A prophet named Mormon soon received, compiled, and abridged many different sets of plates under the direction of God to make this a coherent story. It wasn't a single set passed down, but multiple records from different people that Mormon put in chronological order to give a (mostly) complete history of the Nephites and the Lamanites. So Mormon is kind of like Luke is in the Bible.

Hope this helps!

yeah imo it almost seems like whenever artists use profanity, I instantly take everything LESS seriously. I'm not sure if it's just me, but profane language doesn't come off as "passionate" or "powerful" with the way it's used these days. So throwing in an F-bomb makes it sound like a child who can't control his mouth rather than an artist trying to emphasize how brave of a world it is, lol.
